The rooms were great and VERY clean, the staff was polite and helpful except for the little girl at the mini market. The food most of the days was good and so was some of the deserts.
Had a good time with the boys at the pool bar (Argiris,Blendi,Dimitris the tall man and the rest which I don't remember their names). The sun beds were hard to get because alot of guests(mostly Serbians) would go and leave their towels on the beds from early in the morning and take them off just before 8:00pm when it was closing (they would go to their rooms to sleep and leave their towels there)!
There's no wifi in the pool area just at the reception area and that's not free (5 euro for 90mins). The beer comes in barrels but made for...Village Mare with water inside,if you wanted a bottle of beer or anything in a bottle bacardi breezer, gordons space etc.. you have to pay for them!
The big swimming pool was very dirty,I looked down with my goggles and I couldn't see further than 2 meters,it smell chlorine and I will tell you that my son was suffering from earaches and went to the doctor, luckily it was our last day!

We spent there 14 days in "maisonette". Nights were nightmare because upper level of maisonette does not have any ventilation, split type air condition is weak, and so the upper floor is hot like oven. After first complain they gave as a spare key holder that allow the aircon to work even if we are not in room. Still was hot upstairs. Then they gave us a desktop fan. It helped to make some air flow, but still we have to slip all night with aircon on, although it was fresh outside. Aircon working 24 hours dried air so in the middle of the night I got few times asthma attack (never before). We asked to change the room, thought that aircon is bad, but on reception they said that all the maisonettes have the same problem. So we kept spending nights on the terrace in the short sofa.
Food. If one wants to eat healthy, will be in trouble. For the breakfast no fruits or vegetables (except oranges), even no yoghurt. Every day hot dogs, scrambled eggs, pastry, kind of salami and yellow cheese and ten kinds of sweet spreads. For the lunch and dinner, one can make for himself a Greek salad from prepared ingredients, but for the fruits you should be early. Since it was very hot these days, we prefer to go to dinner after the sunset (8:30). Only once we ate watermelon, usually we have kiwi, sometimes apples, peaches, nectarines and plums, but never at the very end of supper time. The same apply for the deserts. Anyway, we were trying to be quick because the restaurant does not have real aircon so we chose to eat on the open, on taverna style terrace were you can feel the breeze from time to time.
Restaurant service was bad. Not, I think, because of people working there. They are always in the hurry and sweaty. Just there was not enough staff. The same applies for the bar staff.
The beach has one quality. It is close to hotel. For 2 euro you can get a key to unlock two sun beds from umbrella. Most guests kept the key, so the significant number of sun beds can not be used. The sea is beautifully clean, but that is like on the whole Sithonia. There is no beach bar so you have to carry drinks from the pool.
It is really pity what poor management has done out of this hotel. The whole complex is small but charming. Architect has done a nice job (if we forget maisonettes). The room furniture is new and pretty. The bathroom is small but does the job.
The greatest advantages of this hotel are price benefits for the big families. Most of the guests have 3 or more kids!

The hotel facilities and maintenance were disappointing or at least didn't respond to 4 star hotel quality.Bathrooms were disgusting and very small. Bed linen was torn. The housemaids were negligent. The whole complex looked very dry and all green parts has dried. During our 7 day stay I saw only twice irrigation. There should have been small rock gardens and artificial lakes, but all of them were empty. The swimming pool treatment system obviously was very old one, because the water smelled to chlorine and all swim wear and including the skin of the body smelled hard even after being rinsed out. The food a little bit better, but there weren't any other desserts than tasteless musses and peaches. There were some meals with sea food and mussels which I liked, but were not definitely suitable for small children. The only meal you can offer your little ones there is rice or potatoes ( one and the same every day). There was soup ( almost water with flavor) only for dinner which is absolutely bad choice for children.
The beach was never cleaned and there was many garbage both on the beach and in the water....floating bags, plastic cups, cigarette butts and etc.
For comparison I would like to tell you that the nearby 4 star hotel BLUE DOLPHIN was totally different and extremely well maintained from the hotel facilities like flowers, green grass, alleys, pools till the beach.. it was very clean and there was OBVIOUS DIFFERENCE IN THE MANAGEMENT TEAMS THINKING AND WORK FOR THE GUEST SATISFACTION!
I would not recommend VILLAGE MARE TO ANYBODY..
