“Superb costumes”
Reviewed 6 September 2013

This museum is the fruits of private efforts of a local couple over many decades. The full sized figures were superbly attired and animated via internal machinery. This type of mechanical animation however, is not the best to have come out of France, as the industry had already by the end of the industrial revolution, risen to extraordinary technical heights.

“Truly unique, beautiful yet strangely eerie”
Reviewed 10 August 2013

Interesting that another reviewer thought a young man had made the automates - a year or two ago we met the passionately committed couple who had the idea and created this amazing experience.
They are at least middle aged- the lady collects exotic fabrics and dresses the figures and the man makes the mechanical components. What is peculiarly attractive is that there are lots of scenes where you think you recognise the fairy tale, but the owners will say it is a mix - ideas borrowed from traditional tales and beautifully presented. Possible not suitable for very young children who might find some of the movements a little spooky but definitely "a must" for almost everyone else if only to marvel at how art and engineering can combine so effectively.

“Not your Disney perfection, all the more charming for that”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

Small family run concern, really welcoming and the young man who makes the automates is happy to show people round his workshop too.

Nice coffee on the terrace afterwards where you get introduced to the family cats as well.

Great to see people just doing their own thing on a small scale with such enthusiasm.

“Wonderfully unexpected, worth crossing the river to find it”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

The Dance Macabre must have been written with this in mind. What a labour of love to create it - quite unique and reminded me of the first Cirque Imaginaire in its dark, provocative unexpectedness. I saw it one night in conjunction with a talented contortionist in the courtyard dance a transmogrification from farmer's wife to chicken - quite magical.

“The most unusual museum.....”
Reviewed 3 August 2012

We went to the museum one evening in July as part of a summer festival that it was hosting. Before the show began, the museum was open to the audience to look round and we were amazed by the place. I've never seen anything like it - lots of life sized moving figures in all manner of settings. Sort of spooky and wonderful at the same time.
