“Perfect days in Villa Miranda”

What can we say about our perfect days in Villa Miranda?
Without any doubt the most comfortable holiday retreat we ever visited.
The exterior, the gardens, the pool and the view surpassed our high expectations.
And so did the interior. Lavishly equipped. In the kitchen drawers as well as on
the bookshelves.

We were looking for a holiday far away from everything and the Villa provided the things that were required:
- The pleasant feeling of a house that has been there for centuries (and is well maintained)
- A very quiet neighbourhood
- A tropical garden with absolute privacy
- A swimming pool that was actually heated (for the cooler days)
- An abundance of places to sit down or ly down and read. Both in- and outdoors
- No internet connection

A place to remember. And to come back to.

“Needs some TLC, wrong side of the island for February?”
Reviewed 23 February 2013 for a stay in February 2013

The villa is brilliantly furnished and the DVD and book libraries are amazing.

However, it is showing its age and has quite a bit of damp. There are lots of places where the paint is flaking off and there is some black mould in the twin bedroom. The house smells musty and the solution is really not to put up to 2 Ambi-Pur air fresheners into every room to cover this up as the scent produced is pretty horrible. The water heater for the bathroom only produced hot water after we tweaked it and the central heating never worked. The fire was great but we could only use the fan to spread the heat after we had removed part of a plug that had broken off in its socket. Basically, the house is suffering from its owner not being on-site and the managers not noticing problems.

It looks like we picked the wrong side of the island for February. When we arrived it was cloudy and looked like rain. We asked the people who took us to the villa if things were likely to change and they shrugged and said that we would find the sun on the west of the island! They were right. The day after we arrived it was raining in the east. We crossed through to the west and came out through the tunnel joining the 2 sides into bright blue sky and sunshine.

We had gone on holiday to escape the grey and cold of a French winter And we hadn't. So after 3 days having seen no sun at all we left and rented another villa on the sunny side of the island. As far as we could tell, watching the weather reports and the clouds bubbling up over the mountains from the east there were only 2 days when it was sunny on the east. No wonder that it is called the 'green side' of the island. We should have paid more attention to those sorts of comments! Perhaps it gets less pronounced as the year goes on but it looks like in winter the west is the only place to be.

We came back to Villa Miranda for our last night and it was still grey and wet. So we watched 3 DVDs and went to bed.

Management Response
27 Feb 2013
We visit our villa regularly. Redecoration is scheduled to take place shortly. We always advise our guests to contact us or our housekeeper if they have problems so that we can remedy them as soon as possible. We cannot guarantee sunshine and the island (east and west) is subject to winter weather, as are all the canary islands.

“View of Paradise”
Reviewed 18 March 2012 for a stay in January 2012

Excellent villa. So tastefully and thoughtfully furnished. Amazing view from the large private pool area. Picked fresh fruits from the various orange and grapefruit trees for breakfast. It really was paradise. The villa was 20 mins. from the airport where we picked up our hire car. The car was essential if you wish to tour around the island but not essential for the villa as the local supermarket with adequate provisions was a 10 min.stroll away. However you are a little isolated in the evenings if you do not hire a car. We really loved the island of La Palma as it was like going back in time and so beautiful and very tropical and,so far, undiscovered by many tourists. It was very tropical with spectacular diverse scenery. I believe it was the most beautiful place we have ever been and are planning to return very soon.
