“Very good hotel; not an obvious fit for families with kids but it works”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2010

Property and the rooms are beautiful. Boat ride service across the lake is divine (when the weather permits -- otherwise, expect $35 taxi rides to and from city center which add up). Food and beverage were quite good although pricier than usual even at the 5 star level. Breakfast on the terrace facing the lake is a treat. If you have a lakeside room, you need to be on the 2nd floor or else you wouldn't see much. Kids play area is exceptionally good. Our kids loved it. We also liked the drop-off child care service. Lunch at the spa is a nice activity. The gym was decent. Concierge was helpful; hotel lent us a stroller when we needed it. Our main problem was that the hotel is uber-trendy and people with kids tend to feel out of place. You get the feeling the hotel doesn't really want such guests around except that they give you all sorts of things for the kids upon arrival and the kiddie food was excellent, and the staff were all very nice to us and our kids. This is a resort close to the city with great grounds and a feeling of being away from the city. It is not a good place to be if you want to go outside and be in the city. It is also a bummer if you are counting on the boat; 50% of the time we were there it wasn't happening due to weather. There is a train connection but we didn't use it; might be better to access this hotel via the airport train station rather than central station. Those taxi rides add up big time. But overall, i liked the hotel and it worked well for us with the kids.

I invited my wife to La Réserve Hotel & Spa for her birthday, via The Leading Hotel of the World membership program. It was more than a very good idea ! We were lucky enought to be upgraded into the Suite "La Réserve" (room nbr 218) which was really great space, great luxury, great location, well exceptionnal ! I would definitively recommend this Suite if it's in your budget, as you will not be disappointed at all. The balcony in incredibly big and nobody is disturbing you as you are on the end side of the hotel. The park is in front of you and it's very quiet.
The SPA is one of the best in the World, the swimming pool is also great and heated. Really, it's a great deal to stay in La Réserve, as even if the weather is not good and you can not use the outdoor swimming pool, then you can use the indoor SPA swimming pool.
The restaurants inside the hotel are also excellent and have an excellent reputation in Geneva.

To resume :

POSITIVE POINTS :

- SPA
- Park where you can walk and relax
- Quiet
- Boat trip free of charge possible
- Excellent Suite "La Réserve"
- Staff and services are perfect
- free parking just in front of the entrance

NEGATIVE POINTS :

incredibly, nothing to complain about for this hotel !!!

Spa is very good, clean and relaxing. It's really overpriced but for special occasion is ok.
And i had the best hamburger in geneva in this hotel.

The reviews on here fail to capture the 5* excellence of this hotel. The spa is possibly the best in the world and the rest of the hotel is cool and faultless. How can a bar out of the centre of the city have such a vibe and provide food which surpasses that of Le Richemont? Forget the modernist architecture and enjoy.

La Reserve isn't intended to be an airport hotel but it is very close to Geneva airport making it a great place to stay before / after a flight. This was my second time at this property and it continues to impress.

Best things about the property:

- views of the lake and mountains (when it is clear)
- exceptional service
- whimsical safari lodge meets Paris bistro decor
- lively but tasteful bar / lounge
- attractive indoor pool

The only issues I see with the property are:

- it is pricey
- proximity to the airport means there is occasional aircraft noise
- you are a bit trapped and need to take a taxi to get to other restaurants or to see the sights in the city
- you will need to borrow an adaptor. plugs are local vs. "international"
- limited business center (don't plan to print anything here). web access from room is good

If you are staying in the winter when visibility is poor, it probably isn't worth the extra cost of a lake view room.

I had not expected anything special from La Reserve based on some of the reviews on TripAdvisor, their own rather unflattering photos of the building, and the location near the airport, but was actually pleasantly surprised by this unique and well-run hotel.
Firstly, it is not an airport hotel in anyway. Yes, during the day you can hear airplanes but only if you are outside. It did not bother me in the room (perhaps because of the TV) and never noticed it during my spa treatment. That said, it is still pretty much in Geneva so one should not expect it to be an authentically bucolic countryside escape.
The rooms were dark and richly appointed with in exotic faux-safari style, and the hotel's public areas had this theme to its decor, perhaps sensing its own irony. This made for a chic ambiance in the bar at night when locals stop by for dinner or nightlife.
I only experienced breakfast and lunches at the hotel and had dinners elsewhere (Il Lago at the Four Seasons, Quirinale on Rue de la Rotisserie, and especially Philippe Rochat in Crissier are highly recommended ), but very much enjoyed the fresh and healthy daytime menu that complemented the spa setting.
The spa services were fine, and the gym is probably considered one of the nicer ones in town (and all of the local ladies in the locker room used Birkins as gymbags) and I really enjoyed the indoor spa pool, which I appreciated it being in a relaxing spa setting with chaises and not a utilitarian athletic gym pool.
There were two things that were outstanding:
1. The concierge - one gentleman from the concierge really went out of his way when after he had helped me find a doctor the taxi failed to show up, he promptly brought out a car and drove me to the doctor himself. It was beyond his duty and he could have easily delegated, but he very kind to go out of his way to personally make sure I was taken care of during a time in need.
2. The hotel's boat service - why sit in auto traffic when the hotel's speedboat can whisk you across the lake? This proved to be great on a Friday night when local roads were congested either because of nightlife in town or because locals were all driving out of town. Aside from convenience, it was a special way to experience Lake Geneva's Jet d'eau up close (try both day and night) and the boat drivers were all incredibly friendly, allowing children to drive the boat and being very accommodating with pickup requests.
As a side note, my initial skepticism of the hotel was quickly assuaged at check-in when my partner ran into his colleague Prince Albert of Monaco in the lobby. If it will do for a royal, it will likely do for you too.

Wonderfully romantic, warm ecclectic design atmosphere with nicest grand lobby lounge in Geneva - and still (January 2010) the possibility to smoke a cigar in a corner niche. Fantastic for cigar aficcionados! Interesting international and young crowd, differentiates the Reserve from other downtown Grand Hotels which can be a bit heavy and old. Situated on the edge of town towards Lausanne. My personal Nr. 1 in Geneva, in front of the Four Seasons and the Richemont.
