“Old but well maintained”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

We stayed there for an overnight stay to catch our flight back to LA. The room was clean, but old type, Holiday Inn style but correctly maintained, except for the shower which was in a pretty bad shape. The restaurant was quite poor, in a style gone 40 years ago. We had a dinner, which was quite poor in quality, overpriced, with bad service. The pool and artificial lagoon was quite nice and well maintained. There`s virtually no usable beach at this hotel. Important factor in choosing this hotel is the proximity to the airport (5Km) and 20$ taxi ride.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, take the overwater bungalow with gives a very good view on the ocean and Moore...

This is a first rate place and I recommend it. The day we were there the electricity was shut off from 7 am until noon but we had to leave at 5:30 for a flight so it didn't matter. The restaurant had the best onion soup I've ever had.

We stayed here overnight to catch a flight out the next day to Bora Bora. The rooms were clean and in good shape. The restaurant was nice and the buffet breakfast was excellent. We had a few hours to roam the grounds which were very nice and tropical. The hotel and grounds all seemed in good shape. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had no complaints about anything and would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed equally good.

Gorgeous location overlooking Moorea sunset. Own lagoon with spectacular reef fish swimming in and out. Access point for water sports. Very large resort with all the usual amenities. Hotel was clean and modern, staff very accommodating. Only problem was confused service in the restaurant. Hotel runs a shuttle into Papeete, which is about 10 minutes away. Taxi to the nearby airport is about $20. This is French Polynesia so everything is expensive. This facility is probably as good as any other first class hotel on Tahiti and may be better due to its close proximity to the airport.

We spent one night at the InterContinental after arriving in Tahiti on our way to Bora Bora. We had not planned on staying in Tahiti when we initially made out plans but it was a very nice surprise to stay at such a lovely resort. It was pouring rain when we arrtived and we were greeted by a very friendly front desk staff member who checked us in quickly and efficiently (even though it was only 10:00 PM Tahiti time, it felt like 4 AM to us and we had been traveling all day long). We had a lovely room in the main hotel. A bellman took us to our room and we collapsed onto a comfortable bed and fell fast asleep.

In the morning we woke up and peeled our curtains back to see the beautiful waterview from our room, It was quite picturesque and we were not expecting a waterview so it was a very nice surprise! The hotel had also left us a gift of a print to take home. After showering and getting ready we went down and enjoyed the buffet breakfast. I thought that for what you got the price was a little high but considering the cost of most things in French Polynesia I suppose it was right on par with other resorts. You are able to sit outside by the pool and water so it was a nice view while eating.

We were able to walk around the property a little bit before our transfer back to the airport and the grounds were lovely and very well manicured. I would definately recommend staying at this resort even if just for a night in between island hopping.

Room Tip: Get a water view or over the water bungalow!

the rooms were clean and staff pleasant, but a hotel is a little dated and would benefit from a facelift. breakfast was way below par quality-wise, which we found surprising considering the hotel is meant to contain one of Papeete's best restaurants.

added bonus for the ladies (or anybody else keen on men) is that the porters are shirtless and where traditional dress on the bottom half only - hmmmm.

Dear Visitor;
Ia Orana from InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa !
Thank you for visiting us and for your comments.
We appreciate your comment referring to the fact that the Intercontinental Tahiti is in need of refurbishment, but it is probably the property with the most authentic Tahitian atmosphere you can experience and the most comprehensive resort on the island of Tahiti. Our team is devoted to this legendary property and is working hard to maintain it in great shape while renovation projects are presently being finalized .
We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you back in the future.
Sincerely.

I stayed at the IC Tahiti on either side of a cruise and five nights in Moorea. This is my third trip to Tahiti in three years, and It is definitely worth being an Ambassador member during your stay... an upgrade to a panoramic view room really made a difference. On the five occasions I have stayed at this property, I had a garden view room on only one occasion and it wasn't nearly as nice as the panoramic rooms. As an Ambassador member I also received free bottled water, a fruit bowl and gift, a free movie, late checkout and, best of all, free WIFI.

The food is not bad at the Tiare restaurant, and the Polynesia dinner dance show is great if this is your first trip to Tahiti. The real jewel in the crown though is Le Lotus. I had dinner at Le Lotus on two occasions, and can't praise it highly enough. Food is expensive no matter where you go in Tahiti, so if you are going to pay over the odds anyway, I recommend you pay a bit more and enjoy the fantastic food at Le Lotus. One night I had the added pleasure of watching a large moray eel and a reef shark swimming on the reef below the restaurant.

Most of the staff are great, but if there is any complaint at all it would be with the reception staff. I put it down to language barriers, but checkin and checkout can be a bit frustrating so leave yourself plenty of time. In saying that, I can't thank the hotel enough for arranging a late checkout and taxi for my 1.30am flight. If IC Tahiti is your first stop, it will give you a good opportunity to get used to "island time" :-)

The rooms are well appointed and comfortable, but the hard wood floors can be a bit noisy.

I had a lovely massage at the Deep Nature Spa. It is not cheap, but the treatment was fabulous and the spa very luxurious. The best way to spend a lazy day (or overcome jet lag) is snorkelling around the lagoonarium. It is lovely to have a paddle around with the bright coloured fish, and is also a great way to test out your snorkeling gear and underwater cameras before you hit the islands.

For many the IC Tahiti is more of a short stay hotel before heading off on a cruise or on to Moorea or Bora Bora, and for this the hotel is perfect. If you do stay for more than a day or so, check out the dolphin expedition at the dive centre. We saw a huge pod of spinner dolphins and they spent about 45 mins jumping and leaping around the boat. A real treat.

The hotel is close to the airport, and is the perfect place to start or end your French Polynesian adventure. I can certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: Become an ambassador member before your stay - the cost of the membership is definitely worth the up...
