“Beautiful and relaxing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

We stayed here for 2 days prior to our time in Bora Bora, although we kind of wished we had ended our trip here since we could have stayed and relaxed while waiting for our flight back to LAX. Maybe next time! Snorkeling in the lagoon is beautiful, the pools are stellar, and the pictures I took of the hammock and tiny island near the pool I plan to enlarge for our living room. I'm not sure what other guests are talking about when it comes to not enough pool loungers, because we went to the pool at various times during the day and there were always loungers to be found. And some of them have the softest lounge cushions I've ever experienced. It is also not as windy here as in Bora Bora, so the overall experience of relaxing outside is maximized.I loved seeing the tiny lizards come out on the balcony while the sun went down. The view during the delicious buffet breakfast was amazing and we would be delighted to return someday!

we booked a night here while flying back from bora bora.

the view from the lobby is breathtaking. the property itself is dated. our room was in a "pod" located some distance from the main lobby. found it to be very buggy....mosquitoes in our room. our room looked to be updated recently, but I found it to be odd, look like the flooring was installed improperly and was not solidly constructed.

staff was very nice. bellman wore only a loin cloth, which was a highpoint for our vacation

We spent two days at the InterContinental Resort Tahiti before boarding the Paul Gauguin cruise ship. Our room was very spacious and spotlessly clean, with a huge balcony facing the ocean and Moorea in the distance. The grounds and facilities at this hotel are top-notch; nothing has been left to chance. The staff are courteous and efficient -- always ready with a smile whenever guests have any questions.

The breakfast buffet is outstanding comprising a huge number of choices. Guests can easily sustain themselves until dinner after such a huge breakfast! Our one disappointment: the dinner buffet which is accompanied by a display of traditional dancing. The show is amazing and well worth seeing but we found the dinner buffet to be very mediocre. For around $130 pp (not including wine and beer) we expected a lavish feast but such was not the case at all -- much of the food was raw and the cooked dishes were lacking in flavor. Dinner from the regular menu, however, was very good. There is a good selection of wines either by the glass or the bottle; we discovered a pleasant bottle of Chilean Chardonnay for a moderately reasonable price, given the high cost of everything in Tahiti. There is another restaurant, beautifully situated on the water with lovely views, which appears to be a little more upscale. We did not have the opportunity to dine there but would certainly try it on a return visit.

There are several beautiful pools for swimming, and a lagoon for snorkeling. For fitness buffs, there is an excellent gym and tennis courts. The hotel is conveniently situated for the airport; downtown Papeete is too far to walk but the hotel has a shuttle bus service, or taxis are plentiful and cost about the same for four persons as the bus.

We returned to the hotel to rent a "day room" at the end of our two-week trip, before the late-night departure of our plane to LAX. This proved to be a very smart thing to do. I had thought we would be allotted a makeshift room, as we were only there for about 6 hours, but instead we found ourselves being shown to a beautiful, large room very similar to the one we had had at the beginning of the trip, with fresh flowers, fruit selection and complimentary bottles of water. We spent a wonderful last day there, enjoying the spectacular sunset and an excellent dinner before leaving for the airport. I heartily recommend this option to those traveling back to LA on the 11:50pm flight.

One final tip: our travel agent suggested that we purchase the InterContinental Ambassador Card ($200 from the ICH website) as we were planning to stay at three separate InterContinental hotels. This card easily paid for itself with automatic room upgrades, free wifi, in-room gifts, free movies, etc. Our friends, with whom we traveled, did not have this advantage and our accommodations were markedly different.

The city of Papeete does not have a whole lot to recommend itself but staying at the InterContinental Resort Tahiti is a world apart.

We stayed there for only 2 nights but it was lovely. Our room was far from the lobby and restaurants but they bring you around with your luggage in a small truck with benches. All the rooms have views of the ocean and Moorea across the way, not far from the Faa'a airport - you can see or hear the flights coming in but fortunately they are not that many - and a great buffet breakfast offering French, Asian and Tahitian specialties - at a cost. There is a shuttle available to downtown for a fee every so often. Go there for no more than 4 hours because downtown Papeete is small and does not offer much besides some shopping, the supermarkets, the banks for change and the post office to send the postcards back home. I wish we would have stayed longer so as to enjoy the place more. The resort comes with 2 pools - one reserved for adults with a swim-up bar - and beach access.

We stayed here for three nights prior to an Oceania cruise in April 2014.. This place is paradise found. The setting is spectacular with Moorea right across the water and they view at sunset is magical. Our room with an ocean fronted patio was spacious and the bathroom was large and luxurious. The food is very good although very pricy. Tahiti must be the most expensive place on earth. We saw both Polynesian floor shows and they were very well done. I agree with the traveler who wrote about the lack of lounge chars by the two pools. There are not many and they were all taken by 8:00 AM. For a spacer this large they need many, many more chairs by the pools. But this slight pales in comparison to the feeling that you are truly in paradise.

Room Tip: Any room with an ocean front patio.

We stayed at the IC Tahiti after a week at the glorious Le Taha'a Resort and Spa...so unfortunately the IC had a lot to live up to. We stayed here for 2 nights before our flight back to the U.S.
We had been told that this property is the nicest in Tahiti...and it was a beautiful hotel. However, there was one huge area where this hotel was lacking.

Pool chairs: There are two spectacular pools at the IC Tahiti, and that is really one of the main draws since there isn't really a beach here. So WHY ON EARTH are there not enough pool loungers?!? There are only a handful at each pool, and they are LONG gone before sunrise. People play the dreaded "towel game" where draping a towel over a chair "reserves" it until they feel like coming to the pool. I hate hate hate when resorts allow this. It;s my biggest pet peeve, and it is at its worst here. I had to spread my towel out on the hard ground and sit cross-legged for much of the day trying to read...uncomfortable and not very relaxing to say the least. When someone would eventually get up and leave their lounger...it was a race to get there and claim it! So frustrating. There is plenty of room on the pool deck for more chairs - Management, please hear me and add more!

Other than that, the service was good and the scenery is beautiful. We ate at the Polynesian buffet/show on Friday nights and it was very pricey (like $140pp U.S dollars) but I thought worth it. The buffet is very elegant and the food was very good. Presentation was impeccable. They had a seafood bar, saute' stations and the most unbelievable dessert bar.

The room was standard and clean and was more than sufficient for a 2-night stay (any longer than that and you may want more space)

Fix the pool lounger situation and this resort improves greatly...as far as InterContinentals go. My recommendation would be to stay here FIRST on your French Polynesia trip...because the resorts on the other islands will usually be more luxurious and relaxing.
