“A perfect place to stay in Croatia”

From the initial enquiry, the owner of the apartment was very accommodating and communicative. On arrival, there is a host to meet you and show you how everything works, give local information etc.

The flat itself is lovely, newly decorated and very attractively done. It is spacious, with large double bedrooms (both can be made up into double or twin beds). Both rooms lead out onto a lovely terrace. The kitchen is very well-equipped, more than you will possibly need on holiday, even if you are a very keen cook. There's a good amount of space to eat at the table in the kitchen although we ate outside on the terrace every day. The living room/reading room is next to the kitchen - it's comfy and cool but we didn't spend much time in there, preferring to be outside on the terrace, so it probably is feasible to use it as an extra sleeping space although we didn't need to (there's a sofabed). The bathroom has a decent shower with lots of hot water and there's a separate toilet, also very convenient. There are portable air conditioning units in each bedroom which is handy if the nights are very hot, although in July we found that having the doors to the balconies open was mostly sufficient.

The amenities provided go way beyond that of typical holiday lets, especially in this price bracket. Great coffee maker, dishwasher, washing machine, lots of kitchen utensils, library of interesting books, portable sunbeds to take down to the sea, umbrellas...pretty much everything you could want. The whole place has a feeling of generosity and warmth about it.

However good the apartment is - and it is wonderful - the location is the star. It overlooks the small harbour/inlet in Vrboska and the view is very pretty. It is shaded for most of the day so it's comfortable to sit and read but the sun does reach it late in the afternoon, making sunbathing possible (you just have to move your deckchair!). It's on the first floor (two short flights of stairs) and downstairs is a great cafe/bar, which we thought would be noisy at night but isn't at all. If you're after complete silence then I guess you won't be looking for an apartment in the middle of the village anyway. The promenade below is car-free so it really is a people (and boat) watching vantage point. There was a free concert one evening and we had a grandstand view of the whole thing from the terrace.

A few doors down to the left are two great bakeries for breakfast pastries and there are two decent supermarkets in the same street. The local restaurants are of a good standard and there are enough of them to keep anyone happy even if you never leave Vrboska to eat elsewhere: there's a very good pizzeria (although this one gets very busy with families so probably best to book in high season) and good fish restaurants on 'your' side of the water, with two excellent konobas with fantastic BBQ grills just a couple of minutes' stroll across the bridge on the other side (the one with the fake donkey outside does amazing grilled meats Croatian style and has a good wine selection). There are also a couple of nice places a little bit up the hill behind the marina, offering fantastic views.

There are many spots to sunbathe and swim on either side of the inlet, starting just ten minutes' walk from the apartment. If you wander along the path opposite a little further, you will find dozens of places along the rocky shore with both sun and shade from the scented pines, where you can base yourself for the day, often with nobody else around. There is a busier beach about 20 minutes' walk along that path, with a great restaurant directly behind the small beach and next to the campsite, serving decent food in relaxed, open-air surroundings. Beyond that beach, there are more opportunities to find yourself a private spot for swimming - the water is crystal clear and completely safe for swimming with no waves or currents to speak of.

The bus stop for regular buses to the rest of the island is a couple of minutes' walk across the little bridge (the village 'square') and it's also possible to walk along the coast road to Jelsa - it's a very pleasant walk through the pine forest next to the sea. Jelsa is bigger, busier and a bit more lively in the evenings with several very good restaurants and a couple of bigger supermarkets. Unless you want to explore all over the island, I don't think a hire car is necessary - buses and bikes and walking trails are all available. You can rent bicycles just downstairs from the apartment. There's also little boats to hire for half a day/per day, straight across from the apartment on the other side of the inlet (rental office just by the bridge). There's at least one ATM - nearest one is on the same street as the apartment.

The village -and the apartment - have everything you could want for a relaxing holiday. It's very pretty with its canals and little bridges (I can see why it's known as Little Venice) but is right by the sea with all the holiday activities that offers. There is enough nightlife to keep most people happy without it encroaching on the peaceful vibe that is also present. It's about as different from Hvar Town as it's possible to be so if you're looking for that kind of high-octane nightlife, Vrboska is probably not the right destination for you. For everyone else, it comes highly recommended all round, especially if you're lucky enough to stay at this apartment!

“Comfortable flat with a great view”

My friend and I stayed here for a five days and had a great time. The flat was spacious and had all that we needed. The location is ideal. We walked to town shopping, restaurants, and night life. Enjoyed a terrific meal at the Lunatic rooftop. The near by beach was clear blue and tranquil which is just over a mile away. I would stay here again.

“QUIET PARADISE”
Reviewed 22 August 2014 for a stay in August 2012

My favorite thing about this place: the evenings! After a great day in the sun and wind, when you get home the only thing you want is to pour a glass of your favorite wine and relax as the day fades away. No need to go out, in "town" as the best area of the village is around you.

I have really, (rephrase that:) REALLY enjoyed sitting the evenings out, on the balcony, best spot in the village, watching other happy people having fun in their holidays. The place is cozy, intimate but also in the middle of everything. Feels special.
The flat overlooks the marina, it's interesting to see the small boats traffic under your window.

The whole island is a paradise. I have never had enough days there to enjoy all the nice things you can do. I could suggest, beside lying on your favorite rock over the blue waters:
wind surfing (lessons available, too), kayaking (rental available close to the nudist beach), renting a small boat and discover the surroundings (~50-80E/day, best destination is a deserted island nearby and then lunch at Jelsa in a restaurant on the quay), day trip to Sucuraj (mid-way you will find a charming small pizza place in the middle of nowhere).

I cannot wait the next summer! I plan to be there for at least one week!

“In the middle of everything, at the same time cosy and relaxing”

We (parents and 3 kids aged 14,11 and 5) spent 10 days at Vrboska and I couldn't have thought of any better located apartment.
Before I write about the location I have to say, we were perfectly welcomed by Lena (she was waiting for us in the cafe downstairs), explaining everything - and even trying it out: the coffee machine. All necessary information were there, e.g. ferry connections, maps, taxi, phone numbers and the collection of books was impressive. Even our teenage daughter was happy to find some books there. The apartment was perfectly clean and very well equipped (many different sets of plates and cups for all purposes). We were surprised, not only to find the two bedrooms and a kitchen, but also a third room (living/reading room) that we could transform into a bedroom for one child. However, one of the two major bedrooms is so spacious that it could also take one more bed. We felt it a great service to find mats in the corridor that we could take to the beach, what made lying on the stones much more comfortable. We especially liked the decoration of the apartment, colors and maritime details. We didn't use the air conditioning because the flat stayed comfortably temperated during the day (while 30 degree outside).
The location was just amazing:
A nice bar just downstairs, so we parents could even go for a drink when the kids were already in bed. The bakery 20 m, a very good family restaurant (Skojic) 50 m from the flat. Food there was so good and inexpensive that it became a true alternative for us for cooking. Post Office, Souvenir shop, excellent ice cream, bike and boat rental, departure of excursions to Bol and even the local museum are just within 100 m reach.
The riverside in front of the flat is closed for cars, so beside deliveries there is no traffic. If you arrive for the first time, it is the easiest to go to the marina and walk from there (100m?). However there is also a small path to drive up the entrance.
We loved to go jogging in the morning and there are two beautiful routes: one in the direction of Jelsa, mostly in the shadow of pines and all the way along small nice bays, the other one across the bridge and then also along the bay of Vrboska leading to Soline beach and even further around a semi-island: pristine nature and sea view everywhere.
We happened to be there at August 10th and learned that it is the day of the local patron (Laurence). From our terrace we could see a procession in the late afternoon and as a big surprise for us in the evening a firework that was started from the island in front of us: we couldn't have had any better view then from our flat!

Liked best: Decoration, location within Vrboska, WIFI
Liked least: I'd recommend also to older travelers and families with young children, however there are stairs to be taken and the terrace has a beautiful guardrail where small children might climb.
