“Great place to stay near Dubrovnik if you have a car.”
Reviewed 19 September 2013

This was our first visit to Dubrovnik and this time we were travelling with two friends and we had our own car. Parking in Dubrovnik is not easy and can be very expensive. So we decided to stay a little out of town. Hence we chose Villa Ana. It worked out great. We had the top floor, with a view of the water, just 1 minute walk to a little pebble beach which was great for an afternoon swim. Boris the owner, welcomed us and settled us in. From then on it was very private. Everything was great. The location, the apartment (two bedrooms and two bathrooms) had a balcony and made a great place to breakfast. (Supermarket just 5 minutes by car in the town of Zanton). There is also a great pizza restaurant just between the apartments and the beach.

There is room to park your car on-site and it is just an easy 10 minute drive into Dubrovnik. There you can use one of the parking garages to leave the car for (at the time of writing) around AUD6 per hour. (This can change depending on how close you are to the popular part of town, the Old City.)

Plan to visit the area in away from the main tourist times. Dubrovnik is very popular and is packed during July and August. September is ideal I think.

If you don't have a car, then try to get somewhere close to the old city, the southern side is best. Also, if you do have a car, or hire one, take a day trip to Montenegro and tour around the shore of The Bay of Kotor. Well worth it.

We would recommend Villa Ana, especially if you have a family or friends travelling with you.

Room Tip: Ask for one that has a view of the water. Higher up (there are three floors) the better.

Just returned from staying in a one-bedroomed apartment at Villa Ana in Cavtat, a small town/settlement 17km from Dubrovnik. The apartment was lovely, modern, well furnished and spotlessly clean, The kitchen and living area were all in one but this didn't feel cramped...there was a large fridge, freezer, plenty of crockery, space to cook , a good hob and oven, microwave, toaster and even a dishwasher! This space also had a table and chairs and a very comfortable L shaped sofa which could convert into a bed. There was a large flat screened tv with satellite coverage but no British channels except for BBCWorld.
The owners were very friendly and always on hand if you wanted to ask any questions about the apartment or the local area. They will email you after your booking to ask how you would like the beds arranged (much appreciated) and also collected us from the airport for the same charge as a normal taxi which made our arrival and departure very smooth.
The apartment was regularly cleaned with towels and sheets changed almost every other day! The view from our balcony was fabulous, looking down on the bay with the mountains in the background. The balcony furniture was a large table with 4 chairs and 2 sun-loungers plus a rack for hanging clothes.
The bathroom was great, very modern with a walk in shower and plenty of space to store items.
There was air-conditioning but we found this too noisy to have on whilst sleeping and would have liked the bedroom to have included a ceiling fan.
As others have commented, the way down, and back from the centre of Cavtat involves a walk down steps/slope...5mins down and about 10mins back ( uphill) depending on how much alcohol consumed! So...not for people with mobility issues.
Near the apartment is a small supermarket ( a larger one in town) and a restaurant although the town centre area has a very good range of bars and restaurants in beautiful settings on the bay. A ferry can be taken from Cavtat to Dubrovnik as well as a good local bus service, and there are various waterfront businesses to organise other trips. We took a day trip to Montenegro organised by a travel agent near Hotel Cavtat
There were no sandy beaches in the area, but I bought some water 'slippers' and had no problem walking over the shingle/small pebbles to swim in the beautiful water.
I would highly recommend Villa Ana and Cavtat if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful place but away from the bustle of the city.
PS...don't bring beach towels...the owners even provide then for you to use!

We stayed 6 nights at Villa Ana and were very pleased with our stay.

The Private Apartment was excellent for us as we love lots of space, with our 3 year old daughter.

The main bedroom was nice and has a decent sized bed. They even set up a child crib for our daughter prior to our arrival. The other room had two single beds and both rooms very comfortable and clean.

The kitchen area was big and had all the appliances and dishes in case we wanted to cook for ourselves, which we did on a couple of occasions when we were to lazy to go to the restaurant.

The place had two bathrooms and a living room area with a flat screen TV with leather sofa. It was also very clean and was comfortable to be in.

We were very happy with the Villa as they had optional breakfast (American breakfast) for a reasonable fee. The best part about the breakfast was that most of the ingredients such as tomatoes and eggs were from their garden and very delicious. They will ask you the night before what you would like and they will make it to your liking.

We also loved that there was a restaurant right behind the Villa that served good food especially the Pizza. Make sure that Dube is working and you will have really good pizza. Try starting with the mixed (mijesana) pizza to start with. We loved that we could do take out and bring the pizza to our room.

Our absolute favorite part was the balcony. They have a wrap around balcony with lots of room and tables. The main attraction on the balcony is a patio swing that sits 3. On a couple of nights we just sat and swang our nights away enjoyed gazing into the beautiful sky, stars, and listening to music.

We rented a car as had plenty of parking at the Villa. Dubrovnik and the Old City were not that far off as well (Approx 10-15 mins driving).

The hotel also has WIFI access in the main lobby and we were able to Skype back to Canada and call around Croatia from our iPad and iPhone.

The beach is also very close and is about 2 minutes walk from the Villa.

Overall, we were very happy with our stay and would definitely come back.
