At first I thought this is a bit to far from the Old City. But needn't of worried, our host Adarko took us into the city and collected us. He was polite, friendly and very helpful. The setting was perfect. The food was excellent and price for the optional dinner was VERY reasonable. Our room was lovely with the added bonus of of a beautiful view. Would definetly return!

Room Tip: Higher floosr have wonderful sea and mountain view

Absolutely loved Villa Lanterna. Adarko, our host treated us like royalty. Beautiful surroundings, very peaceful, with transport laid on to take us into Dubrovnik. The best of both worlds. Our room was excellent as was the food. Can't fault it. Would highly recommend.

Although Villa Lanterna is a little bit of the beaten track we found it a nice and relaxing base for exploring the nearby busy Dubrovnik. The staff could not do enough for us, breakfast was very good and with waitress service rather than buffet style which made a nice change.
We used the shuttle bus every day and found it reliable and convenient.
Our TV would not tune into any English speaking channels all week and never got sorted out despite mentioning this but as I am not a big TV fan this did not bother me at all, however I would have liked a reading light over the bed as the room was quite dimly lit but apart from this could not think of any other things to complain about.
On arrival we noticed there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room as advertised but as soon as we mentioned this a kettle and cups were brought.
Overall very pleasant place to stay and excellent value for money.

We stayed one night after driving down from Split before staying in the center of Dubrovnik. We had a top floor room overlooking the bay, it was incredibly relaxing. The young woman who worked the front desk bent over backwards for us. Although I am glad I stayed in downtown for the next few nights as I liked being able to walk everywhere this was a relaxing break. I could sit and stare at the water here for a week easy. My only beef is there is no coffee maker in the rooms and they don't start breakfast til 8am, I need coffee at 630am!! Room was clean and comfortable.

Recently returned after spending a week in Villa Lanterna while exploring Dubrovnik and the surrounding area.
The Hotel as others have said is being run by a skeleton staff of four people with Doris and Darko at the helm. They do work very hard to keep things ticking over which may not always go appreciated.
We stayed in Room 3B which had been recently upgraded to a fairly high standard with new fittings all round. The balcony view across the bay was beautiful to say the least.
We elected to stay on a half board basis and feel that this enhanced our stay as we could relax in the evening after a long day and simply unwind. We chose from a menu the evening before and have to say that each night we were served quality fresh food and plenty of it. The alternative to half board would have meant a choice of two restaurants a few minutes walk away by the beach (neither of which seemed appealing) or a trip into Dubrovnik which is 15 minutes away by taxi or the Hotel Shuttle.
We used the shuttle on a few occasions to the city and felt it offered good value although the timings were not always convenient.
To those people who criticise the price of the shuttle (which works out at around £9 for two people return) may I remind them that to stay in a Hotel in Dubrovnik would cost a considerable hike in price compared to Villa Lanterna.
I would concur with a previous post regarding housekeeping in the rooms. Although towels are changed daily the beds are "made up" by simply pulling the throw over without puffing up pillows etc. (we found this amusing)
We personally thoght that the location offered the best of both worlds. Close enough to the city but in a quiet yet visually stunning area.
Contrary to what has previously been said there IS a local bus stop at the main road into the city and if you ask at reception you will get a timetable.
We enjoyed walking around the bay into Zaton which takes around 1 hour at a leisurely pace. Follow the main road for around 400 metres before it drops down to a pleasant path for a lovely walk.
Had a lovely seafood lunch at Restaurant Ankora in Zaton. Fish Platter for two, Litre of delicious Croatian wine, fresh bread, coffee, dessert and a brandy for £51 witha view to die for.
Dubrovnik itself is absolutely stunning as is the nearby town of Cavtat which you can sail to from the old harbour.
We did take a trip to Montenegro which was a waste of a day in all honesty.
Finally thanks to Doris and Darko for being the perfect hosts and for looking after us so well.

Firstly I should say that I have discussed with Darko that I would give an honest review given the problems we encountered and he was totally happy with this.

Room 13 - top floor, great sea view. Balcony door would, more than often, not lock, the safe did not work, the shower screen was falling apart but I managed to fix it, the bathroom had cracked tiles, discoloured grout and mouldy bits of sealant and the shower head refused to stay where you wanted it. The round blanking plate over the square hole hiding the wiring in the shower cubicle fell off exposing the wiring, between Darko & I we fixed it back in place. The beds (which were like 1980s Argos flat pack jobs) were made only 2 days during our stay and the floors only mopped once, the bathroom sink was never cleaned (by staff), lots of dusty bits and cobwebs (was only a little spider tho ;-) ) All in all it was a rather poor room, poorly serviced, it would seem they have severe staffing issues at the hotel, there seemed to be only 3 people working there. The restaurant is only available for breakfast, it has not opened for dinner for two years, Darko does however do excellent scrambled eggs.
The only way to plug in a phone/camera/ipad for charging was to unplug the TV/fridge/digibox as there were no other accessible sockets. They were kind enough to lend us a kettle and two cups and the shuttle bus to town with Zoran at the wheel is as good as any rollercoaster ride.
Everything else has been said really and is as others describe, but we were disappointed with the standard of accommodation at this hotel and it only gets bumped up to an average because of Doris & Darko. Further investment in refurbs, staff and staff training is undoubtedly required to return it to former glories.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have best views but are of poor quality, lower floor rooms have been refurbished

We had a family holiday for one week. Our booking for a 2-bed apartment room was altered just before departure to a one-bed apartment and a room which was annoying but manageable.

Villa Lanterna is a small hotel which is built into the hill side. The apartments, studios and rooms are accessed by steps (no lift). Some people with restricted mobility may have difficulties and would be advised to contact the hotel before booking. Some apartments have been upgraded; some remain to be upgraded. The view from our apartment was an attractive bay view with more distant views of the coastal hills. Our balcony however was in the shade. There is a pleasant and comfortable open sitting area for guests next to the reception.

The hotel is located in Stikovic about 9 km from the old town of Dubrovnik. A regular shuttle mini-bus is operated by the hotel for a small charge. A small bay with pebble beach is 2 minutes walk from the hotel. If you prefer being close to the centre of Dubrovnik this is not the hotel for you.
Two small restaurants are also a short walk away – both have views over the bay.

Pleasant walking routes from the hotel are in short supply, although it is possible to have a reasonable walk around the bay to Zaton (care required on part of route which adjoins the busy coastal road).
The hotel has a small car park.

Staff are very friendly and helpful and sorted out a problem with a noisy air conditioning vent fairly promptly.

Breakfasts were good, although limited in choice; coffee was ok but not up to café standards. We would have preferred an option to dine at the hotel in the evening, but this was only available to guests staying on a half-board basis.

The hotel was generally good value for money.

Room Tip: Request a bay view and check room location (access up several steps to apartments at top of site)
