I can't really understand the bad reviews of this hotel, as we loved it! As soon as we got out the taxi, the staff were there to help us with our luggage. We checked in and the reception staff were friendly and they DO speak English! We were taken to our room in a buggy and upon arrival; it became aware that we were in the wrong room. There were only 2 single beds and we were a family of four. We had booked a 2 bedroom villa. There was also a problem with the electricity. We went back down to reception, where we were shown the paperwork from our travel agent - they had booked us a one bedroom villa with 2 beds! As it was midnight, the manager told us that he would get 2 camp beds sent to our room and our room would be sorted out in the morning. We contacted our travel agents, who were useless! However, Ibraham (spelling) did sort our room and we moved 2 days later to a 2 bedroom but we did have to pay an extra £200.
It certainly did not spoil our holiday - the villa was clean & tidy and very roomy and served the purpose. We were only in it to sleep & get changed.
The pool area of the hotel is where everything takes place and from 9.45am till 5.30pm the animation team led by the wonderful Ozy, made sure that we were never bored. They start with their morning dance,( which I have to say I do miss), then there is Morning Yoga with the lovely Kristina - there were darts, water polo, volleyball, pool games, pilates, table tennis, zumba, step aerobics etc. The animation team are the real stars of this hotel - Ozy is the chief animator and he had a wee soft spot for our younger daughter and always made time for her, and would come & chat to us. The rest of the team, Dogus, Yako, Grkan, DJCan, Kristina, Elena, Innochka,Irina, Sasha & Yolanda (hope I haven't missed anyone) are the friendliest & most genuine bunch of people we have met. They went above & beyond to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves and despite other reviews - they ALL SPEAK ENGLISH! In fact, they all speak about 3 or 4 languages and really make a great effort with all the guests. They do try & get everyone involved but also respect you if you don't want to take part. And if you don't want to get involved or find the pool too noisy, there are 2 other pools within the complex & there is also the beach. We really miss the animation team, they left a huge impact on us and we are still in touch with them via social media. We would love to go back next year, just to see these guys - they are one in a million and Simena are very lucky to have such a great team. The pool stuff finished at 5.30pm but they were back on the scene at 8.30pm for the mini disco, then the amphitheatre hosted a show every night at 9.30pm and the animation team were all involved again. The comedy night was hilarious and it worked so well, even though it was spoken in 4 languages!
The bar staff are also very friendly and they can also speak English - our favourites were Adnan, Doqan and Murat (love these guys) - a couple of the older ones were a bit grumpy and could also be quite rude on occasions. The older ones definitely favoured serving the Russians to the "Red Band Gang". Red Bands were given to Western Europeans & Blue Bands to Eastern Europeans. And that brings me to the Russians - yes, they do dominate the hotel and the Red Bands were definitely in the minority.
The Russians are bizarre - they are rude, ignorant and greedy! They will push in the queues, barge through doors and pile their plates with food. You have to learn to behave like them and just tell them no when they do try to push. I did get into a row with 2 Russian grannies over towels, but if you stand your ground, they will back off. I was disgusted with the amount of food waste that was left on their tables. They were also rude to the bar staff, with never a single thanks uttered. That said, they did not spoil our holiday and we met some lovely families who also wore Red Bands!
The food was plentiful and although it was a bit repetitive, it was edible and we certainly never went hungry.
We were very sad to leave, and there were tears when we said goodbye to the animation team, as we did create a bond with them and we hope to see them again. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Forget the bad reviews; I think the people who wrote them just didn't make the effort. What you have to remember, is that you are abroad, you are in a different country that speaks a different language & has different cultures from the UK. If you want pizza & chips and don't like international people, then I suggest you stay at home & go to Blackpool. We met some lovely people from other countries and we did in fact meet some lovely Russians, but you have to make the effort. Loved Simena and miss everyone very much!
