“A little gem”

I took my sons - 13 and 8 - for a weeks' holiday here, had no idea where to go and fell on this by very happy accident.
As mentioned in other reviews, it is about 2 km from Platanias - easy to walk/bus there. But this hotel was perfect for us. Quiet - only 40 rooms approx, beautiful pool. The staff were lovely, especially Matilda in the bar, and the children were really safe, free and happy. The rooms are simply furnished, comfortable. I have never seen so many solar panels as on Crete, and the water heaters are connected; so the water is always hot for an evening shower, though it was a bit cooler in the morning.
Exploring was easy - Chania is a 15-20 min bus ride east and is lovely. Touristy, but tasteful. Musuems, churches, 16th century Venitian harbour, little winding streets - full of atmosphere.
There are also buses going west, to Kissamos and to fab beaches at Falosarna etc.

A few negatives -
Food isn't perfect, but honest, adequate, wholesome. More fresh fruit would be welcome.
They charge for airconditioning which seems pretty mean as it is a necessity in summer.

This hotel seems to have deals with French and Czech operators - so I didn't hear an English voice all week.

We are planning to go back next year and hire a car so that we can travel around more.

We spend wonderful eleven days in this hotel. We were very satisfied with the accomodation and all the services, the food was delicious, the bedroom was nice and tidy and really near the beach... The standard of the hotel reached its classification (***).

We went there for a week and it was one of the best holidays we ever spent. A pleasant, family-style, no-frills hotel in Gerani, just on the outskirts of Platanias, right on the beach. Nice pool and comfortable lounge bar (great drinks served by the barman!) with a view on to the sea. The immediate neighborhood is natural (as opposed to artificial tourist zones) - reeds, wild birds, orange groves just on the other side on the road, occasionally chicken cackle could be heard, etc. In other words what used to be called a "holiday in the country" in the old days. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful at all times, and after a while we were really good friends. Very good home-made food too. There is a food and souvenir shop next door (best prices in the area, and we've looked a lot) and a bus stop right opposite if you need to go to Chania or Kolymbari.

I would definitely recommend this place for a family holiday (there were many couples with kids) and for all who seek peace and quiet, want to enjoy the sea, the view, the food, but don't need five stars. Great value for money.

We stayed there a week in july 2008. It was our best holiday. The Hotel was not more than 2 stars. It was at the buondary of Platinas and Gerani. Little but clean room with very poor furniture. For the aircondition we paied 30 euros for the whole week. I bet you can not bear a day without it.. Our view from the belcony was really terrible and also beautiful. On the right we saw the beautiful range of hills, on the left there was the sea and the Theodor Island. But infront of us there was an old enormous terrrible metal barn or something similar.
The staff was really kind. I liked to be there. I think the place was operated by polish emloyees, Most of the guest came from Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.

We had half board, but the breakfast was really poor. I ve never eaten so terrible breakfast before. So, every morning we bougt something to eat at the shop next to the hotel.

In Gerani the beach is very calm. If you want to have a very peace and quite beach, and you just want to lie on the sand this could be a good choice.

This Hotel is good for young couples who do not want to stay a long time in the accomodation.

After one week in this hotel I was terribly upset and disappointed.

If you look at this hotel from outside it is very nice, the swimming pool in the back of the building looks also very attractive.

But...

The furnishing of the rooms is very poor and depressing, the beach in the back of the hotel (the hotel is situated directly at the seaside) is dirty and full of rubbish.

Above all the provision was the one that angered me the most: the breakfasts and dinners were also poor, no selection, one has to eat the same tasteless food. How is it that I ate far the worst tzatziki (had nothing to do with cucumber) and drank the worst orange juice (no signs of orange in it) in Crete, in the homeland of tzatziki and orange????
