Private Custom Tour: Corfu in a Day

Lovely bus trip from our hotel and a pleasant uphill walk to the viewpoint. The views are spectacular and there is a free set of "binoculars". Like much of our experience of out of season Corfu the route was a bit unclear and there was not much to help a tourist when they get there. It would be good to have a map/diagram showing you what you are looking at!

The so called throne is a backless chair wither the seat like a saddle. Perhaps the Kaiser has bad back problem and use the chair for orthopedic purpose. He is definitely ahead of his time!

It is now put in front of a work bureau in the room next to the Queen's private chapel on the ground floor.

A must see if you are in the area and free of charge. Perhaps the best part of my holiday. You can park very close to Kaisers seat or ask a taxi driver to take you up. The walk into the unspoilt village of Pelekas is all downhill from the throne, and there are lots of tavernas.

We walked up to the site through the narrow vehicle-less streets of the charming village of Pelekas (not well signposted so it turned into a trek of discovery). Lesser mobile people may find it difficult as it is uphill continuously but it is well worth it as you see a real bit of rural Corfu life. It is possible to drive right to the very top where there is a small car park. The views that were enjoyed by the Kaiser are stunning and you can see the entire island and across to Albania. There is a lovely restaurant at the viewing point and it would make for an ideal evening meal on a summer's evening. We walked back down to the village and enjoyed a wonderful huge ice cream and coffee at the lower café of the two (the other seemed a place for locals to enjoy the siesta). The bus service runs from Corfu town to Pelekas quite frequently.
Note that the actual visit to the viewing point requires less than one hour but you need more than two if you are going to walk up through the village.
