Stayed here beginning of October.

We had a pool view room on the third floor, the resort location is perfect. You're only a few minutes walk from the strip (shopping/bars/restaurants) of Olhos de Água.

The front desk staff, were so kind even after asking so many questions regarding our stay. I can't say enough about how nice they were - it really made for the experience.

The buffet had a good variety of food, very clean as well. There was enough pool space to accommodate everyone.

Overall, I have nothing bad to say about this resort. Lots of consistency in services from the Riu properties I have stayed at before however, this would be my favourite!

Room tip: Higher Floors will have the best views

This is the second time we have been to this hotel. It was just as good this time as last year. The hotel is spotless, there are plenty of sunbeds so no need to get up early! The pool is cold but as it was 33 degrees so this was a nice welcome relief!
The food is lovely and there is so much choice, we don't eat meat and are really fussy but we never went hungry!
The only complaint we have is the outdoor seating area for the restaurant allows smokers, unfortunately when we were here there was a lot of heavy smokers and this ruined the meal for us. We like to sit outside for our evening meal (especially as it was so warm) but the smoke really gets in the way of enjoying your meal.
This was the only complaint we had though and we will definitely be back!

First of all restaurant staff and cleaning staff are great - the room was always cleaned and waiting staff always had a smile. The spa staff are also great, I had a pedicure and my partner had a massage and we both thought it was great

However the reception team was awful. The hotel seemed half empty but we were still given a front facing room, when we asked to swap to a pool view this seemed like it was a major effort for them. Whenever requesting towels for the pool they were uninterested and when asking about booking taxis and tours they gave us minimal information. We asked for late check out however was told this was not possible (even though our TUI rep had told us that next week was going to be even quieter??)The older lady especially was patronising and rude. Not once did they go out their way to help us. Not what you expect from an RUI resort and their attitudes really did ruin our holiday.

The food was as if it was all the left overs from the freezer, the pool was freezing and far too cold to go in.

Would not recommend this hotel.

Nevertheless, we are saddened by knowing that you have not enjoyed your overall stay, and feel even more disappointed to acknowledge that it was, as you felt, due to the lack of professionalism of our reception team. We are very surprised by your words as we dedicate a lot of efforts to guaranty that all of our staff members from all of our hotels represent our standards of quality and professionalism. We are sorry to hear that we did not reach those standards during your stay and would like to apologize for the inconveniences it might have costed you.

At last, we would like to say that we regret that we could not meet your taste with our gastronomic offer and that you thought our pool was not in the right temperature to enjoy it for a bath.

Just came back from the Rui hotel in olhos d'agua portugal very nice hotel spotless fantastic pools staff would do everything to make your stay enjoyable food good reception very helpful however our holiday was a nightmare because on our 1st day my wife fell coming in from the balcony because there was a step 3 cms high with no warnings she broke her wrist and we had to go to hospitals in albufeira then by ambulance a long way to faro where she had it plastered then travel 25kilometers by taxi back to our hotel.

Over the last 25 years I've visited over 20 RIU hotels from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean, including Aruba and the Bahamas, so it's safe to say I'm qualified to give a fair assessment on the RIU Guarana. I have held back a tad as the hotel was winding down for the winter break and I can understand staff members wanted to get home or start their new jobs with other hotels based in all year round resort's.
The food was boring and repetitive and on top of that we both fell I'll with a stomach bug. The canteen, can't call it a restaurant as it's absolutely bedlam with guest's literally running from one serving area to another banging into anyone who got in their way. It was a challenge to find a table for two, plus we had to find our own cutlery at times..The wating staff weren't the most efficient, however they were polite apart from one of the head waiters named Francesco who had an eye for the ladies, I'll leave it at that!
The evening entertainment is an absolute joke, the poorest I've had the misfortune to sit through. I can't understand guest's who can say anything different! It was shocking!!
The room was ok, albeit a tad dirty and dated.The pool areas are adequate set among fairly well manicured garden's.To summarise, a very poor RIU hotel, with tired staff,very poor food and entertainment, that's why I'm so surprised with other TripAdvisor members who give such glowing reviews.

Room tip: Try a different hotel!

Despite being glad reading that you appreciated the well maintenance of the gardens and the pool area, we regret to know that our evening entertainment and our gastronomic offer did not met your personal tastes.

Regarding your stomach discomfort, we hope you both are now completely recovered. We can assure you that the health and safety of our guests is taken very seriously. We follow strict procedures while handling our food products in order to prevent and avoid any kind of alimentary risks or hazards. We have not detected a relevant increase that can confirm that we have a significant outbreak.
