Reviewed 11 August 2009

I went on holiday to Adriana Beach Club with my mum, dad and sister and after reading some of the reviews were unsure of what we had booked. However, from getting onto the site and starting to look around we realised that worried were nothing. The reception staff were fantastic getting us everything we needed quickly, as we had had a delay of over 12 hours and had been up for 24.
We got into our rooms which were perfectly clean, and yes basic but for an all inclusive hotel you don't need a lot, we're happy if we get a bed to sleep in thats cleaned daily. The maids always cleaned the rooms daily and you could see that the sheets were changed as well as your towels. They were fitted with air con, balcony and the basic bathroom set up.
The pool was beyond clean, the water was cold, however, sitting in a heat of over 40 the pool was perfectly refreshing. The pool staff are not like some other reviewers have stated, they are overly friendly, you can see them all day and are up and about, making sure the beds, umbrellas, tables and chairs are safe for using. At ngiht once the pool is closed you see them out cleaning all of the surfaces down, cleaning the pool and making sure everything is in line with each other and all of the beds have an umbrella or table.
The entertainment team, and entertainment that was on offer had ups and downs, the entetainment team I couldn't fault, there always came and said hello during the day and evening. They spoke a variety of languages and it was great because it was over not just english folks here, meaning we get a bit of a different culture. Some of the entertainment was the same each week, as it was so popular and other weeks would change. The day time entertainment was the normal, volleyball, football, table tennis etc. The aquagym was on twice a day and as we went a long our holiday the groups were getting bigger because of the entertainment team members that were running them. Each used a variety of different excercises meaning you were not doing the same things. They also ran a competition were you could we a cocktail, the cocktail games were generally always amusing to watch and take part in as they were not your usual games.
The food that was on offer was filled with variety and excitment. I was not always up for breakfast in the morning, however, when I was I found that the food was always the same however, its breakfast, at home not your normally have the same thing everyday? The snacks on after breakfast were the same throughout the day, crisps, cakes, breads, salad, burger and hot dogs! The lunchtime meal we felt was, better than dinner they always had on a different fish that is not always seen in the UK very much-Dover sole, Swordfish, Perche, Meage. Me being a very fussy eater I still found the options of food to have acceptable. I may have gone for the typical, chips or pasta first however, there was always something else I could have like pork, chicken, stir fries, pizza, and salad.
The evening meals and staff were very friendly, you would get taken to a table and then get to go and pick your food. The fruit that they had at any meal times were always fresh and full of flavour(not like you get in the UK). There was only one bit of food that a lot of British went for and that was the pigs in blankets. I would like to warn you that they are not the typical pigs in blankets, the Portugese have them with banana rapped in bacon!!
There was a free bus service to Alburferia and you could get on it from the hotel reception and be come back on any of the other bus times for the hotel. There was Thomas Cook rep, however, we would have like to have seen a lot more of her, as we often had to go and find her and it wasn't always easy as she was often off site. We had a little problem when we had quite a fews ants crawing around our room, by the windows, however, after telling reception, and coming back up from dinner and the evening entertainment, they had gone and the staff and cleaned it all up!!! The maids, and all staff delt with any problems straight away and you wouldn't have to go back to reception asking again and again for it too be sorted.
The overall holiday I couldn't fault, as being 18 myself and looking for a holiday to go on next year with my friends, if I had the money I would without a doubt go back to this hotel. The weather we had was perfect, we couldn't of asked for better. We have been to Portugal before and loved the weather being roasting during the day but having that baeutiful breeze in the evening.
5 Thumbs Up and this hotel should be a 5 star hotel!!!! We Loved It!!!!

well, where can i begin, this was without doubt the best holiday we have ever been on, i am soooo angry about some of the pathetic comments made by others that i felt compelled to let you know their whinging is rubbish!
the hotel is absoloutly gorgeous. immaculate gardens, the pool in the 1st part of the hotel was huge, never a problem with overcrowding in the pool, there is a 2nd pool at the other end of the hotel - again gorgeous.and yes unless you have never been abroad, we all know that whereever you go sunbeds have been a problem, us british are as much to blame as every other country, as long as you get up by 8 you will get a bed!

the food was just fantastic, the choices were brilliant, someone previous said no choice for vegetarians, what a load of rubbish!! the food was fresh, the meat, stir frys etc were cooked in front of you, never a problem getting a table, you got your own drinks, our kids loved feeling so grown up seeing to themselves. the breakfast was pretty much the same every day, but hey ho, i was more than happy havin a fry up every morning, there was still lots of choice regardless. the lunch again was just lovely. i have never eaten so much. if you were still hungry - and god knows how anyone could feel hungry in the afternoon you could have a fat burger, crisps, cake, hot dog!!!

there were a lot of french, but whats wrong with that!! we had no problem with them, give me the french anyday over arrogant germans/russians. and no no no they did not get better treated than the brits, they did not get served in front of us once!!

the drinks were fab, no they were not not watered down,in fact, we had to ask them for small vodkas as they were way to strong!! you could have caraffs (spelling?) of wine with your lunch/dinner.

the entertainment team worked so hard, they were a lovely bunch, couldnt fault them
entertainment,- yes, some of the evening entertainment was a bit ropey, but if you are up for a laugh then so what, it makes if more funny, yes, they did play french songs, but why shouldnt they, its multi cultural after all and the songs were so catchy that we really enjoyed joining in, wait til you hear jean padicky dancer, you will have to join in brilliant!
daytime entertainment, lots to do, all the usual you would expect volleyball, football, cocktail funny games, aquaerobics twice a day, gym class, dance class, portugeuse lessons, something for everyone, unless you are a miserable sod who just wants to sit on your chair all day then come home and moan!!!

our room was fantastic, soooo huge, we had a family room, so kids in their own room, us in ours - how great is that!! the bed was enormous, air con was perfect, yes, it could have done with a minor update, but again, you are only in there to sleep so stop moaning!!!!

the beach is breathtaking, but you do have to trek down about 90 steps, very hard going, but worth every step, we walked a mile down the beach (left) to a lovely bar that overlooked the beach/sea. drink very cheap - yes, i know we have free all inclusive, but was nice to get away minus the kids for a lunchtime sangria - and believe me they know how to do a sangria!

we got the free bus into town twice, albufureia is so lovely, loads of little shops, alleyways, cobbled streets bars etc. the bus is a free for all, so dont expect any queuing,

to summarise, this was the best holiday we have been on, so a message to all you moaning whinging lot who really made me worried that i had made the wrong choice, stay in england!! p.s my one and only moan is -------- girls, you will gain weight!!

Stayed at Adriana Beach Club in the last week of July with my wife and 2 children (11 & 8) and we had a fantastic time. Hotel is more like a complex of 2 story blocks set in wonderfully kept surroundings and is made up of 2 hotels - the Adriana and the Aquamarina. Resort has 2 large pools, an indoor pool, various small pools, choice of restaurants all serving buffet style food and a grill that cooks fresh the special of the day. 3 bars, nightclub, 2 shops, spa treatments, sauna, jacuzzi, gym, games room, pool tables, tennis courts, football courts, beach volley, mini golf and french bowls.
Daily programme of events from Aqua Gym (Aqua Gym, Aqua Gym, very good, very good), water polo, kids games during day, kids disco, entertainment from magic shows to dance troops/folk dance night.
Plenty of sunbeds round the pools - although recommend to get yours by at least 9am.
Friendly staff and all speak variety of languages - Portuguese, French and English (all entertainment is translated). Check in was easy, arrived booked in then golf buggy took us to our room to save carrying luggage (kids loved that). There is a little 'train' that runs throughout the day to get you around the complex. Beach is less than 5 minutes walk - out the back gate, over the track and down the cliff steps (steep!) on to lovely sandy beach. Villamora is walking distance along beach.
Food had a great selection - fish, meat, salads, pasta - recommend the fresh pancakes for breakfast.
Service at the bar is quick and good range of free drinks if all-inclusive (wine, beer, spirits, port, sangria and of the course the cocktail of the day!!)
Only thing i would off changed if i could was the room - very clean, maid service everyday but as we booked as last minute thing only had the one room for the 4 of us but hey we only slept there.
I would give this place a 10 out of 10 and hopefully will be returning.

All entertainment was in either french or miming. On the other hand most of the entertainment staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Anybody there in the last 2 weeks would have heard AQUAGYM being shouted out every day however this was the only event that took place around the Aquamarina area.
The All Inclusive bar ended at 23:00 and there was no waiter service all holiday. French were served in front of you and they were incredibly rude. The food was nice but very repetitive. The pizzeria and grill had a very small range of food however all was very tasty. On our last breakfast we had Champagne for breakfast to celebrate another couples anniversary, was of a decent quality and even the kids loved it.
Location was not too bad, about half way between Villamoura and Albufeira so around 15 euro for a taxi. I would recommend stop 3 on the free bus. This takes you to the shops and most restaurants (old town). The first stop is the strip which is good at night time for bars but not as many shops.
There were many children and teenagers. My 15 year old made many friends and me and my husband made friends with their parents. All in all a good holiday and would come back to Portugal, however not the AquaMarina.

Had read some of the reviews before we went but decided you can't please all. On arriving was much better than expected the buggy that takes you and your family to the rooms was nice to. We were allocated two separate rooms for my family although we had booked a family room although it all worked out as it was two rooms across a small lobby and you could lock the exterior door to make it one huge room. Our rooms looked out over the quiter pool. The complex and gardens were lovely especially first thing in the morning for a stroll. As we were a group of ten we got up at 7ish to put our sunbeds out although there were still beds left vacant after 9. This was much better than we had expericiend before. The hotel did have a lot of french visitors but this did not worry us. The food was good and never repeated itself in the week we were there. No queues at the bar. Entertainment program was good and kept the older children in our party entertained. The beach was well worth the 83 steps down to it and sea was fantastic. The whole of our party well and trully enjoyed all aspects of this holiday.

We (myself, husband, 12 year old girl and a 6 year old boy) have just come back from a fantastic holiday in the Algarve. We stayed in the massive 4 star Adriana Beach club which has a sister hotel called Aquamarina.

On arrival we were escourted by buggy to our apartment which was ready for us at 11.30am although check in time is 14.00. The family rooms are the best we have stayed in with 1 room having 3 single beds with own bathroom, balcony and TV (BBC 1 and MTV)and the other has 2 single beds also with same facilitys. The rooms are tided every day. The hotel also has a nightclub, 3 saunas, a jaquzzi, hairdressers and a spa for that special treat!

There 3 resturants which cater to all needs and although i have read many reviews saying the food is repetative, the chefs try hard to make every one happy.

The service is fantastic, the entertainment is great for the kids and if they are happy then you are happy.

The beach is beautifull and the 92 stairs that lead to it is worth the effort.

The only negative (very very small) would be its a little remote so i wouldnt recommend this hotel to people who want a very busy resort.

All in all we had a great time, loved it and gutted we are back in rainy England!

The hotel is one of the most beautifull hotels i ahve ever stayed in before and i would like to go to the the same hotel again it was always kept clean and no insects the food is good but i found it repetative one of the problems myself and people we were with found was that the hotel is quite far away from any shops or restraunts and if you wanted to go to the main town albufeira you could get the free bus that comes tothe hotel and drops you off at either one of three stops or it is about 15 euros in a taxi which is quite good. My family and the many other families that we met at the hotel all agreed that we thought that there was a awfull lot of french and germans and the hotel defiantly looked after the french better than the rest .eg. there is a french kids clubs for french only, and in the theater one night there is a show just for the french but there is not special for the english mean while. the problem we found with the germans is that they were very rude when we were all trying to get onto the hotel bus to go to albufeira and they dont believe in cueing instead just push and shove to get onto the bus first despite everyone else who was there before them. i found that the entertainment was good and had quite alot on during the day at the big pool but not very much at the smaller pool, the entertainment staff are good and friendly and put on good shows on the night times. the beach is beautifull and i would definantly recomend it and i would also recomend the 40 minuet walk to Vilamora. i would say over all the hotel was very good and clean and entertaining but they could inprove on being more fair on the english.
