Wonderful geothermal springs. Not as spectacular as in Iceland but worth a visit. Reasonably well landscaped with viewing points along the way. It was fairly quiet when we were there so we could take our time wandering around. There’s a large shed with locally made liqueurs to taste and buy just across the road.

Nature at its best. Fascinating to see water boiling away but almost scary. Well worth a visit if you are in the area although a bit smelly!

Interesting to see how the water is boiling under the ground. I would be scared of living there! Worth to visit it.

A very big tourist attraction by Azores standards, room for coaches etc to park. Not too many people there when we popped in so able to walk round and see the bubbling caldeiras. It is fascinating but doesn’t take long to view. Lots of street food vendors, try the delicious sweet bread with a hot and tender corn on the cob. Delicious.
The little town just down the road has several cafes, souvenir shops and restaurants. There is a lovely trek to a waterfall at Terra de Faial about a 20 minute drive away so Furnas is a pit stop on the way back if heading towards Ponto Delgada.

You will enjoy this excursion. It's very different and you learn a lot about the area. Our tour guide was very good about taking us through this lovely area, where families come together to cook their meals.
