The Azores Essentials, Inc has a wonderful teahouse in Furnas on Sao Miguel Island. This business started in November 2015. The owners and managers are gracious hosts that make you feel relaxed and comfortable. Paula Aguiar is fluent in English, intelligent, and very knowledgeable. I learned with interest the fascinating history of the teahouse building, the sourcing of local and organic foods, and the various herbal tea mixtures. Much of the furniture is made from local Acacia wood. She and her partner gather and dry the herbs themselves. I could have spent the entire evening chatting with Paula. She served my husband and I an assortment of Azorean produced foods that included homemade strawberry guava juice, a glass red wine, stewed beans, olives with herbs, a fried quail egg seated in a bacon basket, and toast. Everything was delicious. The bill was less than 10 euros. I hope to visit again on my next trip to the Azores.

We started with a citrus infusion, served with optional honey - very light drink with fresh flavour. We tried "our hummus": one made with broad beans and another one with a veggie similar to lupin beans that I had never heard of before, served with an azorean version of brioche.

There was a selection of toppings for toast, from which we ordered three: aubergine with squash and cottage cheese, sweet potato and tuna, chorizo and chayote. Generous portions, all toasts ('open') served with a slice of melted cheese on top and there are different types of bread on offer, we had 1 cornbread and 2 regional wheat bread.

We ended with a teapot of spiced tea (full of flavour) served optionally with almonds milk and pineapple flavoured brown sugar. We paid 15 Eur for 3 people. It's a small place but well located and worth a visit!

A very cosy tea-house close to "Caldeiras" that serves many types of tea and coffee. One of the most special tea - is a green tea made using thermal water, when it is ready it has a purple colour.
