“Great hotel, good location.”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

We stayed here for 5 nights on a short holiday in April 2014. The hotel is only 10 minutes drive up the very steep hill from Funchal airport. (The airport is actually 15 mins east up the coast from Funchal itself) We felt a hire car would be absolutely necessary to see the whole of Madeira from this hotel (or really any hotel on the island!) as the hotel does feel remote and can't imagine that seeing the whole island using buses alone would be easy. We ended up renting the car through AutoJardim (through a third party) who were excellent, they met us at the airport as arranged, 5 mins later we were at their car hire depot round the back of the airport and a short time later given the keys to the car after a thorough and accurate car condition check by their rep. It was a relatively new Nissan Micra with approx 60,000km on the clock with a fair few scuffs and scratches, but overall a great hire car for a low price. Returning the car was just as easy and got the 900 euro deposit back in full.

The hotel is well presented and clean, with a spacious lobby/breakfast/bar area and well kept grounds with plenty of parking. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. Breakfast each morning was a great buffet with plenty of options. I had a delicious full English every morning and my girlfriend had fruits/ cereals etc. Although we didn't have dinner, we did have desserts one night, and dinner looked like a buffet again.

Rooms were quiet, clean and spacious with cable TV, and ours had a balcony. Our heating wasn't working the first night but this was rectified when reported. No tea/coffee making facilities though, but I think this would have been available from the lobby had we required it. I found the beds to be comfortable but we had hoped for a double and got a twin pushed together. (Although this was pretty good at not slipping apart in the night!) But then we did arrive several hours earlier than our check in time so perhaps we were given what was available. Curtains were a bit light and therefore let in a fair amount of light in the mornings.

The whole of the island felt very quiet in April and our hotel too was also quiet, though they had traditional dancers in the bar on the first night we were there. There is also a pool table that you pay for by the hour and a pool/jacuzzi that was too cold... but then we did sneak in 3 hours after the 9pm pool closing time - so maybe they had turned the heat off for the night?!

Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking to explore Madeira with a hire car and I would stay here again. The rate was also one of more competitive that was available.

Room Tip: Room 68 (upstairs) had a balcony looking out into the well kept garden, but felt out of the sun most...

The start was not the best, arriving late night I found the door closed and it took some attemps of making noise until the doors opened.
The style of the lobby and halls reminded a bit to Lodges in Africa with colonial style furniture and decoration.
The room was simple but sufficient for three nights. No Minibar available. Heating was done only by AC and noisy. The terrace door could not be fixed in part open position during the night. Breakfast was average for this standard. The location of the hotel is within green area and the golf course. Dinner was offered for 17 €/p as buffet with one soup, 2 available main dishes local style and some side dishes, desserts and fruits. All local style - comes always with fish. Value and quality was ok.
The Spa I didn´t test. The fitness room owns only three machines (running, bike, 1 multipurpose trainer)
The room was´nt made up one day and for dinner the front desk tried to charge the double value. Will not go there a second time. For golfers it seem to be an acceptable compromise.
For business trips only recommendable if your client is close.
For normal vacations I would recommend the luxury hotels at the sourthern coast around Funchal which is more central to all attractions of Madeira. Usually the temperatures and the weather is also much nicer at the coast.

This is a great value hotel (about 50 Euros B&B per night !) where one can just relax and get some peace and quiet (even better if you play golf, which I don't, given its next to the course). Really calm ambiance. Easy to get to/from the Airport. Easy to drop down the hill to the Rapido - useful if you want to get anywhere quickly. Staff are really helpful. Food was okay (I've very simple food tastes but it seemed good to me). Some of the rooms are quite large and plush, some have a balcony, some are smaller, simpler with just a window. Heated swimming pool as well. Offers evening meals as well in the restaurant. Would go again (ie a 3rd time).

Room Tip: Low numbers (which start from 100 I think) are nearer the reception, restaurant and pool. As stated...

Not only is this hotel set in lovely treed/grassed surroundings on a hill with amazing views, but the room, food and service all exceeded our expectations!

We are hikers so we walked "in" and "out" of this mid-priced hotel. It has a heated indoor pool, a convivial bar area and a large restaurant. Even on our half-board plan, we were served a five-course dinner and a huge buffet breakfast with cooked eggs etc. offered in addition.

Everyone on staff from management to bar and wait staff were friendly and helpful even tho' we arrived soaked to the skin in our boots and wet-weather gear after a 19k hike. It was November. So poor weather and quiet hotels everywhere.

Don't expect soft furnishing and luxury here. The decor is "hard simple" but very tastefully done. We enjoyed a quiet night's sleep. Very deifnitely the best hotel out of the five we stayed at on Madeira. Next time we will stay her ethe whole week and take the local bus (cheap and with a stop right outside the gate) to all parts of the Island. We are one of the few Amerian couples to frequent Madeira - so we're used to consistent American hotel standards. The Hotel Enotel Golf passed with flying colors (or colours, for UK'ers).

Room Tip: Upper floor in rear annexe is awy from the road. Some rooms have balconies and views. Cost a little...

We enjoyed a week here last week. Late October weather was rather mixed, but only one day was really poor. A large hotel, with a max of 18 people on any one night, so it was VERY quiet and a bit strange... Food in the hotel was OK; we were on a half board basis. You do get what you pay for and its always possible to eat out. Bit of a shame though that with a wealth of local produce and surrounded by a sea full of fish, we were mainly served up 'euro-fare'. Our room was fine and very clean; well-maintained. The dining room was closed for refurbishment.

You definitely need a hire car, but although steep the roads are fine and the standard of driving is good. We walked the Levada Nova from the hotel. Santo is isolated and quiet, but goes mad on Sundays for the local market!

Next time we go to this lovely island, we will go in the spring, to see the flowers at their best.
The walks on the network of levadas are breathtaking and will reward you!!!

Room Tip: We had room 66 which was on the first floor and looked inward over the garden.

We stayed in this hotel with a couple of friends since we were in Madeira because of a weeding.
We were there for 3 nights. The surroudings are amazing because its situated on a hill.
The inside pool is good.
The staff is very friendly and gave us good advices on where to drink the best "Poncha", a typical drink of the island.
The room was clean and quite but the furniture a bit old. The breakfast was good and varied.
