Description: Located in the heart of of Câmara de Lobos, the Vila do Peixe and Vila da Carne Restaurants overlook this picturesque fishing village and the most photographed bay in Madeira. Their modern warehouse design, using large glass panes to make the most of the spectacular views, makes them both welcoming and informal. Both offer an interior (with sliding glass panels to provide a real alfresco feeling for those balmy Madeiran days and nights), and an exterior terrace with large sun umbrellas, and customers are always able to choose their preferred ambiance. The Vila do Peixe reflects the best traditions of grilling the day's catch by the sea. Using only the freshest of fish, it is prepared in the simplest form (with rock salt and a little olive oil), and grilled over the open fire embers, with a finishing touch of infused olive oil (the house secret recipe). In addition, the Restaurant presents a restricted number of house specialties, such as shellfish rice, octopus rice, fish rice, rich bouillabaisse, a selection of Cataplanas and other Madeiran dishes. The Vila da Carne continues the tradition of the Madeira Espetada, using specially selected meat. Additionally, it offers, amongst others, pork ribs, pork on the skewer, chicken on the skewer, chicken piri-piri, Brasilian beef picanha with selected sauces and delicious sirloin and rump steaks, all grilled over the open fire embers. The restaurant also has a menu of Selected Meats that includes Iberian Pork and Lamb, a few house specialties (including Surf&Turf) and the renowned steak on the stone. Desserts are all homemade and traditional. Both esplanades are a wonderful place to enjoy an aperitif, and to taste the traditional village Ponchas, in what is, after all, a balcony over Câmara de Lobos CAPACITIES Vila do Peixe Vila da Carne Restaurant (interior): 180 people 150 people Terrace (exterior): 70 people 50 people Total capacity (interior & exterior): 250 people 200 people Welcome Drinks or Open Bars may be served in both esplanades.

Good views and good service. The food was great and I would not hesitate to go back. I think for 3 people with starters, mains and a bottle of good white it came to just over €50.

Staying in a villa in Garajau about 15 minutes drive from the restaurant - and there was a card recommending the two restaurants ( one fish / one meat ) but with the added advantage of a free pickup / return delivery service so was well worth a try just for the views that were offered.

On arrival we were not disappointed. We were met outside and welcomed in and taken to a table of our choice. The staff were very attentive and were on hand throughout our meal constantly topping our drinks up and checking everything was ok.
The only thing that was slightly wrong was that I reserved the table online and I thought I booked the Meat Restaurant ( probably my misinterpretation online ) but we were told we could swap but as steak was on the menu we did not have a problem. Three of our party had T-bone steak and I went for the steak on a stone - this turned out to be fillet which arrived on a sizzling stone which I could cut up and cook to my liking - it did not seem to get cold either. We all were extremely satisfied.
I would recommend sharing the side orders as there is plenty to go round especially if you eat the bread and dips offered on arrival - glad we didn't have starters!
We were so impressed we returned yesterday and had the fish which we chose and all enjoyed - cooked to perfection. The fish is weighed before it is cooked and you are charged accordingly - it in fact was cheaper than the steak meal.
Tonight we are going to the Meat Restaurant and all looking forward to trying the choices there - of course with the free Mini Bus!
Would definitely recommend

We went here at lunchtime, stopping off in town from the Yellow hop on hop off bus. It was recommended highly. The restaurant is well appointed and the views out into the bay are good, being situated high up above a supermarket hence it stands out when looking back form the sea.

There were only 3 groups eating in total and the fish was picked from the counter and then weighed for price and cooked for the individual. One guesses the same fish will then be there for the evening trade too, questioning the fresh fish aspect! The range of the varieties was overwhelming, making it a difficult choice, as many we had never heard of.

We were offered starters but were told if we did not want them they would be taken away. I respect this as a Portuguese tradition but wonder how many tables the same plate of food has sat on over trading that day, if not many folk take it up?

We were asked individually what we wanted to accompany our fish and all 3 in our group chose something different. The sizes of the accompanying dishes were far too big for one person and you could quite easily do with 2 dishes for 3 people....maybe salad and potatoes for eg.

We thought the fish was nicely cooked and tasty, but not to go over board about.

The service friendly and efficient.

Dear customer,
thank you for your visit to our restaurant and of course your comment left here.
Please trust in our fish freshness for several reasons;
The fish is bought in small quantities but always fresh.
When just a particular kind of fish run out we do an X in our black board indicating that it is no longer possible to sell.
We have a company that controls us out (HACCP).
Furthermore we have the local government performs many inspections of restaurants and our're not out of those inspections.

I hope to see you in the near future .

Best regards

We picked up a leaflet from a very friendly young man during a day trip to Camara de Lobos. His pitch seemed too good to be true, so we decided to give some time for thought. We went back a 2nd day for a sneak review, & decided to give it a try. The hotel were very helpful in arranging a booking, & even suggested alternative times to allow us to take in the St Peter's Festival. We ended up being collected in a very clean courtesy bus, given a window table overlooking the harbour, which allowed us a grand-stand view of the procession & fireworks. The food was exquisite & the waiter very helpful in offering appropriate sized options. At the end of the fireworks, we were given enough time to finish drinks before being invited to go to the mini-bus for the return to the hotel. The price paid for the meal was more than reasonable, but the quality of service, the superb location & setting, the transport & the entertainment, altogether made for a wonderful evening
