This viewpoint( some buses stop here) is a start for the walk down the chestnut forests to the nun's valley; a very scenic area but the houses in the village are modern. The is a "horarios do Funchal" bus back to Funchal.

Took some family members here (on their first visit to Madeira) but it was a very wet day as we tried to cram everything in to the week. However the rain had it's up side when the sun came out at midday and created an amazing rainbow that was almost a full circle down in the valley - see pics but unable to get it all in on one photo! Having been here many times I've never seen anything like this and was really spectacular. So don't be put off going out in the rain - as they say in Hawaii "No Rain - No rainbows!"

If you have the bottle to drive to this place it is well worth the effort. The top end of the road is frequently single track with hairpin bends and the likelihood of meeting a bus coming the other way. Having got there, the view is well worth the effort. Absolutely fantastic.

Fantastic viewpoint. An easy walk to the viewpoint from the car park. Clear air, absolutely silent up there. You don't quite realise how high up you are until you see the road snaking diwn to a village down below. We visited fairly soon after the fires, sad to see but the walk up had been cleared and was safe. Tourist shop in car park with huge variety of gifts and goods. Also a cafe and toilets and strangely somewhere to stay by the looks of it. Seemed a strange place to spend a holiday but certainly a great viewpoint.
