We have visited Old Alykanas for many years and have dined at Shoestring every lunchtime. The atmosphere has always been good and now improvements have been made to the staircase to the beach, access is so much easier.
We meet friends here every year, and this year we have enjoyed many long lunches brought about by the great company, the weather and the two brothers, Angelos and Sakis.
The menu was good with specials every day and suited all tastes, and the setting would be difficult to better with views over the beach and sea (a wonderful venue for any special occasion, particularly weddings).
We will return every lunchtime for many years to come whenever we are on holiday on Zakynthos.

We were chatting to a local lady in a shop, when she recommended this place to us - and what a good recommendation it was.

It is set up high with steps down to the beach, which is only tiny, but you wouldn't know it was here unless you were either told or went exploring.

We had some dips and bread to share as it was mid morning, and a light drink - the place was beautiful, up high but sheltered with gorgeous views out to sea. Very reasonably priced as well, with excellent service.
You cannot take a car all the way down to this restaurant, but you can take quads and bikes.

Unfortunately after our snack, we were hoping to swim and stay the day here, but the high winds the night before had brought a load of very pretty little pink jellyfish - but I didn't fancy getting stung!

We went to Alykes from Argassi in search for a special Beach on our last day. Alykes was nothing But on our way We passed the little village of Ammodia. There We had seen a sign by the road... Shoestring. We went back and couldn’t had a better last day. By the turqoise sea you find this cosy taverna just placed under the trees. Two brothers Will take such good care of you and you share a Sweet little Beach with very few persons.

Cannot speak highly enough about this place. First impressions are given by the signage which is the opposite of bright and gaudy but simple and classy and this carries on throughout. Unlike many menus in Zakynthos which are pages long and covered in pictures of the dishes, the menu at Shoestring is 1 page and you can tell a lot of thought has gone into it. It has some wonderful Greek dishes and some others one of which the owner, Aggelos, put a lot into - the Shoestring burger- delicious! Over our stay we ate there practically everyday. The calarmari was the best I've ever had; it was the perfect texture and accompanied by a simple salad. I also had the saganaki, the souvlaki, the fresh sardines, the Greek salad and I'm sure much more. It was my favourite place to eat. This was not just because of the food but also the perfect setting. The views were spectacular and the small beach below with its warm turquoise waters was irresistible. Let's not forget the owner, Aggelos and his brother Sakis. They were so friendly from the minute we walked in and even when the restaurant was extremely busy they both still kept a smile on their face. Nothing was too much trouble. Im so glad we found this place as it played a big part in what was a great holiday.

What can I say about this little gem. Found it while out exploring and ended up back there 3 times during my stay. Great hospitality, amazing food, the mythos on draught was outstandingly good. I had the burger but the real gem food wise were the tipsy chilli mussels plus the olive oil grown from trees on their dad’s land just up the road. Only thing is they don’t open in evenings which is a great shame as the setting is perfect
