My family stayed here for 1 week 8th-15th August. It has an ideal location, right on the beach and the weather was perfect (high 30's to low 40's all week) We liked the fact that you only have to walk a few hundred meters and you are surrounded by shops and restaurants, Apollon does nice food but get there early or be prepared to wait an hour for your food.
Cosy corner - apparently rated #1 on here for alykanas??? Not sure how they came to that conclusion but we tried there for breakfast one morning and my omlette was burnt and my husbands breakfast burger was covered in a disgusting cheese on a very dry bun. Didn't think much to it at all.
If you hire a car - don't use Thomson or your own rep, Alykes car hire next to the ice cream shop is much cheaper. I'd recommend a car as you get to see much more of this beautiful island - we travelled north to the blue caves and then west to the shipwreck,Tsilivi on the south east coast and Laganas on the south of the Island. You can get easily lost in the mountain roads though so beware! The water park is ok - we only stayed for 3 hours and had had enough, food here is rubbish and you're not allowed to take in your own. Very expensive too....
The apartments at the resort are very dated - we stayed in the block above reception and the bar, not too noisy by the way....you need to buy the air con in high season as it is far too hot to sleep. The bathrooms are not very good, tiles botched up with filler, very smelly with the drain being in the centre of the room.
Kitchen area very basic, I only used the microwave once and the electric hob rings were covered in rust. 2 slice toaster so if you're doing toast for a family there's a long wait.
The entertainment area is not very pleasant....it's on the lower ground floor and as you go down the stairs, it feels dingy, damp and smells awful of sewerage. It's also got a fountain outside the room windows which looks really bad as they are covered in limescale as no one has bothered to clean them. It is quite embarrassing for the reps who put on the shows as no one wants to be down there long enough to watch them.
I would visit this island again but wouldn't stay at these apartments, not worth the money by far.

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment on the ground floor (room 203) which is in the central block facing the sea/bar etc. Very good location, lovely view to the sea down through the gardens, but noisy in the evenings. The apartment was clean but basic, but the bathroom urgently needs updating (shabby shower curtain, limescaled taps etc). The cooking facilities are basic, not enough to cook a meal but fine for coffee/toast etc. Take your own coffee machine in you like real coffee!! We took a silicone filter which worked brilliantly. The air con costs Euros 120 per fortnight, only payable in cash. Contrary to the website there are no laundry facilities, but you can use the machine at Letsos Hotel in the village (the machine is at the back by the kids play area) which takes Euros 4 for a wash. Bring you own powder or you have to buy it there. There is a 'swap box' in the hotel reception where departees leave their washing up liquid/tetley/sun lotion etc, useful. The wifi is free but very very slow and drops out all the time. I needed to do some banking so paid to use the reception desktop pc with wifi at Euros 3 - 30 mins or Euros 5 for 1 hr which although slow doesn't drop out. The pool is lovely, the public areas well kept, the onsite little shop well stocked, everyone is friendly, the bar food is good, the entertainment quite fun, but for us it was too noisy overall and too crowded, I don't like having to be up at 7am to fight for a sunbed!

Room Tip: Rooms near the front are quite noisy as they are near the bar, but they have the views.

I loved it! The bar workers and staff were SO SO kind! It was lovely having a hotel next to the beach and the swimming pool and jacuzzi were so relaxing. They are dog friendly which DOESNT mean you can bring your own dog but it means if a dog wanders into the hotel they dont hit it with a broom. we had the apartment where theres seperate rooms and the bedrooms were lovely. The only flaw - it wasnt the hotels fault- was that we were next door to this large Loud family where at 1:00 in the morning the would be shouting at each other. so um thin walls but apart from that it was lovely (and the food was great)

Room Tip: they have lots of kareoke nights and bingo and stuff at the bar so if you dont want to listen to all that i would suggest rooms 201 202 203 204 205

This is our 7th visit to the Alykanas Beach and it is still one of my favourite places. Each year we have brought additional friends and each year is better than the previous.
Friendly staff, best spot on the island, uncommercialized resort, loads of fantastic restaurants to eat out at. Never too crowded, even in peak season. Yes, you have to get up early to get sunbeds but name a place where you can avoid this...
Would like the addition of shower cubicles rather than the curtains. As far as Greek standards go though the rooms are pretty good.
Entertainment is good, love Dave and his karaoke nights. Bring back the quiz nights please! Music turned down at midnight so you will not be kept up all night.
Its not tacky, just a friendly place where everyone seems to get on. There are that many repeat customers which speaks for itself...
We'll be going back again in 2015 for sure :)

Room Tip: Studio rooms facing the park (Alykes side) have the nicest view and are quieter.

Overall we had a brilliant time staying here, the room was larger than we anticipated so that was a bonus! Everything was clean and tidy, the beds appeared to be new, although a bit hard. The village as a whole seemed to be recently painted and as such was bright and cheerful. All the staff were friendly and helpful. however a few niggles, an unfinished footpath around the back of our apartment to the back swimming pool was uneven and dangerous, also the bottom of the swimming pools was uneven leading to minor foot injuries and lastly the shower was a challenge going from boiling to freezing and back again in a matter of seconds.
