“Great for families”

We stayed the last week of September. It's our second visit to this hotel. We have a 2 year old and I has been ideal for our needs.

Transfer time is about an hour, we dropped at other hotels first. Coach had seen better days!!
Check in was reasonably quick despite us being at the back of the queue on arrival at the hotel.
Room was clean and tidy - the beds did seem much harder this year! Ours was ground floor and over looked the pool. It was a little noisy during the day but only a minor issue for us as we were getting our son to nap in the afternoon.

The pool was clean although it noticed a few loose tiles around the pool areas, no problems with sun bed availability. I think we had a quiet week, we went a month later last year and struggled to find a bed ( which was not inconsiderately "reserved" by a towel )
We spent lots of time on the beach which is ideal for children as it's shallow in the water and the beach is narrow, so only about 6-10 feet from sunbed to water so ideal for little ones to play and parents to watch from the comfort of the sun bed!! The water park was great but the water was freezing.

We prebooked 3 crèche sessions, after initial tears my son enjoyed it although I don't think the team were overly helpful when we were trying to book our sessions. Nothing major, just a bit disinterested.

We are not a "joining in" family and were worried we might get a pestered to have fun a la butlins but it was nothing like that, there was absolutely no pressure. We didn't go to any evening entertainment but during the day the guy named Jonny seemed to be the most enthusiastic of the entertainment staff.

Overall it was no better or worse than our previous stay, we would have no hesitation staying here again.

We recommend Cosy Corner for breakfast €3.50 for full English, toast, coffee and OJ is a bargain. We ate in Cosy Corner, Bonkers, Elia, Apollo and Vagis. All very good, great service, delicious food and reasonably priced.

Just returned from a 1 week stay at the Alykanas village. We got a bargain last minute deal from Thomson for just 2 adults. From the moment we arrived we were impressed with the place. The pools are lovely we stayed around the quiet pool that overlooked the sea or you can go to the other pools which are more lively. In some reviews it says the rooms are in need of a revamp, we must of been lucky as ours looked like it had been tastfully painted with new furniture, the only thing that needed improvement was the shower as the curtain rail was hanging from the wall and it was as much use as a chocolate tea pot the shower was powerful but the bathroom got flooded everytime it was switched on. The beds are hard but we did get a good sleep so wernt a problem for us.The hotel couldnt be in a better location everything on your doorstep and even the on site supermarket we found that some things were cheaper than the other supermarkets on the strip. We hired a quad bike for 2 an a half days for 30 euros, the quad bike rentals on the strip were more expensive we found 2T rentals a lot cheaper and the man in charge was very helpful. We found the food and drink very cheap and in certain bars every time you bought a drink they came round with free shots. Our only regret is not booking for 2 weeks but will be returning next year for definate....oh and one other thing I forgot to mention we never had a problem with getting a sunbed even midday you would always get one, but maybe thats because we went in October and not the height of season.

We have just returned from a week at this resort, myself, a 5 yr old, 2 yr old and my mother, in her 60s. Having holidayed with Thomson before, we had our expectations of the 4T holiday village.

I have to agree with most of the previous negative reviews, these apartments are dated and in need of some tlc. The bathroom was very old, I had cold showers for a week and it was nothing more than a trickle. Our room was exceptionally clean and the maid service was outstanding, we never saw the housekeepers, our room was just magically clean daily. The layout of our room was odd too, we had a 2 bedroom apartment which was large enough but there was no lounge area. 2 bedrooms with big doubles, a kitchen, bathroom, double balcony but no lounge so nowhere to sit other than on the beds. When the kids were in bed we had to sit out on the balcony. This is not how it is described by Thomson.

We emailed in advance to request a ground floor room as we had a pram, 2 big cases, 2 little children and a pensioner! We were given a top floor room with no lift and when we complained to the manager we were told we had 'the best room in the hotel' and there were no free rooms to move to. The view from the room was breathtaking, we were in room 173 with full sea view. We put up with the stairs everyday because we loved the view and it was only possible because my 2 yr old can obviously walk upstairs.

The pools on offer are great, 4 'normal' pools of differing sizes and depths and a 5th pool with small kids slides and climbing frames. There's also a mini water park with 3 big slides - I have to say this was brilliant. Very well kept, safe and a lifeguard watching all day. We couldn't get my 5 yr old away. The slides pools are away from the main grounds which meant that you could sunbath without the noise.

The beach is beautiful, very shallow with no waves - perfect for toddlers.

The snack bar is good too, good value and good service. There is a little mini market in the grounds which has the basics but this is quite expensive.

The resort of Alykanas is a purpose built road of restaurants with two small supermarkets. All the restaurants we visited were good but very much the same as the last. They cater for young children very well with almost all of them having play areas and super child friendly waiters. This is not a town and there isn't really anything to do outside the hotel.

Our main problem throughout the week was the lack of 'service' in any shape or form from complex staff and, more importantly, Thomson reps. This is advertised as a Thomson Family Resort and is given 4Ts in the brochure - it is no where near a 4T - it might scrape a 3 star. I had higher expectations of Thomson and I can only hope that this one has slipped through the quality net.

There is a Thomson kids club and crèche in the complex. The crèche was great, we paid for 3 sessions for £40ish. No problems. The same cannot be said for the kids club. This was appalling. The reps were bored and uninterested in my daughter and my complaints. This 'free of charge' kids club charged a fee at every session that my daughter went to as they were doing 'something special'. At the Hawaii Party I was charged 10 euros and told it included food, games, party treats and a party bag. My daughter spent 3 hours colouring, was offered crisps and bread as her evening meal and went away with a party bag containing 4 stickers and a 2 inch paper jigsaw. I questioned how this was justified and was fobbed off with a 'I couldn't care less look' from the rep.

The evening 'entertainment' was terrible too. Very half hearted reps who are just waiting to go home. It was pathetic and the bar where all this goes on is under the main building and looks like any basic function room in Bolton!

These apartments are great for under 5s but if you don't have kids and expect a certain service for your money then look elsewhere - its a shame as this could be a truly amazing resort.

Room Tip: top floor sea view is well worth the lack of lifts

Stayed at this Thomson resort with my daughter's family. Being by the sea and offering a choice of pools including a water park, it was an ideal choice for young children but also worked well for the grown ups. Accommodation and public areas were clean and serviced regularly, staff were helpful and friendly and the resort was well located. We stayed at the end of the season and it was noticeable that some furnishings in public areas were in need of maintenance or repair but this did not present any significant problem.
A number of the arrangements at the resort are somewhat outdated. Passports are retained on arrival and remain on public view in pigeon holes behind the reception desk. TV remote controls are issued to guests on arrival and are required to be returned to reception on departure. Additional charges apply for the use of room air conditioning and the room safe (100Euro per week for both).

There is a good choice of restaurants close by. Standards are variable but the better ones offer good food at very reasonable prices.

Just returned from a lovely relaxing stay at the Alykanas Village. We booked last minute and got a pretty good deal, but I was still apprehensive about the fact it was a family resort as we don't have kids. However as it was the end of the season there weren't too many kids about and the kids that were there were busy being entertained by the kids club.
The hotel is very clean, the kitchen in the room has everything you need (though we did go and buy mugs so we could have a proper cup of tea in the morning!). I don't understand why the knife drawer is so low down and I think this should be changed - it's easily accessable for a toddler to get their mits on.
We requested a sea-view room with the hotel and they gave us a lovely first floor room overlooking the quiet pool and sea at no extra cost. The only negative thing I can say about the room is the beds are pretty hard to sleep on.
Plenty of sunbeds round the pool areas. Snack bar prices reasonable. (Although ice-creams are slightly on the more expensive side).
Hotel is right on the beach (and the sea is fairly warm - well warmer than the pool anyway) and just a 2 minute walk to the nearest restaurants and bars. We went to a different place each night though most places do pretty similar food. Really enjoyed Danny's Bar and Cuba Bar.
Highly recommend to those with young families, but don't be put off the hotel if you are travelling with just your partner. I fully enjoyed this holiday and will hopefully return in the future! :)

This was our 4th visit to Alykanas and we knew where this Hotel was situated so thought we would give it a try. Booking about week's before we travelled (end of season) we got this hotel at a good price!! We enjoyed a lovely week at the end of September staying at the Alykanas Thomson Village Family Hotel, normally this type of holiday would be our worst night mare (Family Hotel) but staying at the end of season was most enjoyable. I emailed before our arrival asking for a high floor room overlooking the quiet pool (this is the pool which overlooks the beach). We received an e-mail saying they would try their best!!, I am very pleased to say they honoured our request and we had a lovely spacious room, very clean with everything for a self catering holiday (not that we used anything only the kettle!!) but this was our choice. We had a fantastic view of the sea/beach and this was wonderful to wake up to in the mornings and sitting on the balcony early evening before going out! We didn't use any other facilities at the Hotel but everywhere looked very clean. It was reasonably quiet whilst we were staying there, mostly young families. The weather was Brilliant !! We went to Cozy Corner (Shortie's) every morning for a large English breakfast which was good value 5e, Bonkers Bar during the day for lunch some days and drinks. Our two favourite restaurants were Vrasaki's (George's) and Paradasiako on the canal on the way to Alykes.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor overlooking the quiet pool if you want it quiet!! Gorgeous sea view too!!

Really enjoyed our stay here, our room overlooked the pool, with balcony in shadow during afternoon and evening, though able to sit out the front door to enjoy the mountain view and late evening sunshine. Room very clean and had no issue with the beds, agree with previous comments on the bathrooms, just need of an update. The maid service was excellent and non intrusive. Not much sound protection between rooms, you certainly were aware when people were in their rooms.

First time we have been to a family hotel and not certain would go again, as don't enjoy the incessant need for loud music around the pools. No concerns with obtaining a sunbed, at any time of day more than ample to go round. The location of the hotel was perfect, right on the beach and not too far a walk to the restaurants and pubs. We seem to end up at the Apollo and Dionisos , which both served great food and had good service.

The €25 spent on a safe wasn't good, but didn't want to carry round passports, so they have you trapped. The staff were friendly enough, although I got the impression that they were glad it was the end of the season.

For the price we paid as a late booking, well worth the money, if I had younger children, would certainly book again, but as a couple not for us.
