We enjoyed a lovely holiday here in May 2014.

Good points:
Right on the beach, which is safe for small children with shallow and calm water.
Several swimming pools and splash park
Play park
Lots of Thomson reps on hand to help

Bad points:
On site bar/restaurant is very expensive eg. 5euro for 2 ice creams!
Rooms basic and kitchen tiny so no good for proper cooking.
Only one washing machine for the whole resort, which is 3 euro per wash.

However the good points far outweigh the bad points and we had a great holiday.
We ate out most evening. Many of the local restaurants are great for small children as they have play areas.

Our favourite local restaurant was Nerada, a short walk along the beach. It is right on the beach and very authentic with a great play area. They had Greek dancers and free childrens meals when we went.

We booked two weeks here in May. As a family of 5 I was slightly concerned about having to have two rooms. I didn't need to be as we were given two large interconnecting studio rooms (designed for 4 in each) between the 5 of us. We had bags of space, two balconies, two fridges and, most importantly, two bathrooms. The beach is lovely here, ideal for the kids - but you HAVE to hire a car - we found some stunning beaches, restaurants and cafés. We used all of the kids clubs available (given the kids ages) and they were all excellent. I couldn't recommend this highly enough for a wonderful family holiday in the sun.

As a group of 15 well travelled family and friends we rarely go anywhere twice. After our first visit here we just had to return, it was that good.
This place is spotlessly clean and very friendly, perhaps a little basic and maybe not what you would expect from a 4* hotel but the location and standards more than make up for this.
There are some great little bars and restaurants locally and enough to do to entertain our 7 children 11 and under.
My only advice to other travellers would be to avoid the hotel cafe/bar and buy your ice creams, beer and snacks from the hotel shop or the one 50 yards away for half the price and I probably wouldn't recommend this resort for families with kids 13+.
I would recommend the Mill bar Greek night, fantastic hosts (book early) and Bonkers bar breakfasts. Walk down the beach to Alykes for some good restaurants. We found the Lemon Tree very overrated on both visits though, there are far better restaurants/Greek nights.
Enjoy, we did.

We went to this resort in May and had an excellent time. The flight was short from Cardiff (3 hrs) and the transfer was only 20 mins! On arrival the place looked just like the brochure! The room was basic but just want we needed for a week. The cooking facilities were very poor though as the hob light and numbers were not working and therefore it was hard to tell when the hob was on and on what setting! The pools at the village are great for my 5 year old they range from shallow all the way across to deep and even have a water slide pool separate so that it doesn't disturb others who swim.
The beach is at the bottom of the complex steps and is shallow for quite a way so I knew my 5 year old could play and be safe as she is not a great swimmer.
The kids club is great and gives you a bit of time without your little ones. The kids disco is very good to help them burn off their energy!
The resort is also very family friendly as there are loads of places to eat and most have good children play areas.

trip from 20th may - 30th... Wish we could have stayed longer, hotel very nice only complaints; hard beds, my mother complained about this no end, though it didnt bother me or my 2 kids. No hot water 1 morning, rang it down to reception, she said give them half an hour took a while longer but i expected that to be honest, it was back up and running sometime after lunch.
Pools very well maintained, cleaned and re chlorinated, my mum struggled to be able to get in and out of them unless we went down to the pool by the beach front as that is the only one that has the 'gradual steps' down in to the water, mum is not so good on her legs.
Food at the pool bar was pretty run of the mill but ok if you really want to stay there all day, pizzas, pastas, burgers and chips that kind of thing. The one thing Alykanas as a resort is not short of is lovely places to eat and drink with most doing a mix of english and greek.
Location of Alykanas Beach Village is just about perfect, we stayed in room 572 top floor of 3 floors, could just about see the sea down to the right, mountain backdrop facing you whilst sat on balcony .. with a glass of wine of course!!
On site mini market has a good choice of things to buy and compared to prices around the island they are very good, i found shopping for things quite expensive in general over there, cheaper to eat out for sure.
Beds were made every day except Sunday, sheets changed 3 times i think and towels every other day.
Air con we didnt need
safe 25 euro for a wk, annoying as it is only a key, deposit for the key would sit better with me. However i only paid for the week but nothing was said about the extra days. peace of mind i guess.
We didn't really have a lot to do with the reps as no need, i prefer to get to know the place through the locals and adventuring.
Entertainment/kids clubs were always available but other than my youngest (girl 9) joining in with the singing and odd pool game i can't really comment, nice bunch of people though and did engage people that wanted it, left you alone if not.
You have to get up and 'bag' sunbeds if you want them when its busy but the pool guy fetched extras out once or twice whilst we were there.
Would recommend this place, beautiful beach location, close by to resort centre and only 10 min walk into Alikes if you know the way to go... Or, you could jump on a horse and cart at the 'bus stop' down by the entrance to the hotel. Quaint little place!!

Room Tip: high floors get good views. need to be able to manage steps though. if stood looking down towards th...

Just came back today 06/06/2014 from alakanas beach village Zante and had a awesome holiday. My kids was never bored as there is so much for them to do and the thomson reps was great and we was entertained from 10h00 till 11h00 every day.. The apartments has got all u need and is very clean and grounds very well kept. The snack bar catered for everyone's needs and very cheap and good value for money. There was one negative there was a break in into appartments but the hotel got it sorted by getting security staff on at night. Would advise safety boxes on the third night we took a horse carriage ride and got taken to a taverna called lemon tree the food was out off this world and ended up going there for the rest of the holiday. We loved alakanas and will be going there again great value for money and happy kids witch mention me and my wife could relax as we'll

Room Tip: All rooms are good but see views nicer but then again pool facing ground floors was perfect

Just came back from this well positioned Hotel for the 4th time and hope to return in the not too distant future. Considering it was half term there was no overcrowding. The beach was lovely and peaceful. There have been some negative vibes re security in studios but we always pay for a safe and have never had anything taken. I leave costume jewellery on the dressing table and there it stays. We were a family of 11 and Gloria did her best to keep us in the same block. There is a great choice of eateries in Alykanas and if you want to venture a little further then Alikes also has beachfront restaurants. This year we went to The Mill Greek Night and had a great time and Julie and her husband make you very welcome. We even went back the next day and used their pool and sunbeds and had lunch in the panoramic bar. Katrina and staff in Valais always pleased to see you on a return visit, and whilst we were there they had a wedding reception and the white covered chairs and tables, with a touch of light blue, on the terrace. looked amazing in the beautiful sunshine.
