“Fantastic hotel in a fantastic resort”
Reviewed 10 September 2012

Me and my boyfriend have just arrived back from 2 weeks at Dannys and we couldn't have asked for a better holiday. We were a little worried at what the hotel might be like as it was a cheap price so we were pleasantly suprised to say the least. The whole hotel complex is lovely, with 2 great pools, plenty of sun loungers and sun terraces, a supermarket, a fab pool bar and the brilliant dannys bar. But above all the best thing about the hotel is how clean it is and how friendly the staff are. Our room was perfect, with a big balcony overlooking one pool, and it was cleaned every day.
A short walk to the beach from the hotel and the best restaurant we ate at was directly facing the hotel, with the best bar (Busters) just at the end of the road. Alykanas resort is fab, plenty of places to eat and drink (even for a young couple like us).
Hired a car from Giant car rentals near the hotel just for one day and drove right around the island in about 6 hours with stop offs - a must if you want to see all the beautiful island has to offer. Also took a boat trip round the island, a trip to banana beach, the public bus to Zakynthos and the day trip to Olympia - all fantastic trips.
Overall a great hotel in a great resort on a beautiful island, would highly recommend and will definately be returning.

Clean apartments, well equipped. Yannis is the greatest bloke you could wish to meet. I mentioned that I wanted to go scuba diving & within minutes, he'd done an internet search & had a phone number for me. He even let me use his phone to make arrangements.
I don't think I ever paid the full price for a meal, Yannis always knocked some of the cost off.

Stelios in Dannys Bar was also brilliant. There was something on most nights, either quizzes, pool knockouts or a Greek night. We had a birthday in our party of 12, so Stelios had balloons & banners out & we were able to order a cake through Yannis.

It was a 10 minute walk to the beach, but we were situated close to the local tavernas.

Room Tip: From what I could see, all of the rooms were good

We have just returned from two weeks at Danny's and we had a fantastic time. We are a family of four with teenagers ages 14 (nearly 15) and 17. We booked a studio and we were a little apprehensive in case it proved to be a bit cramped. However, when we arrived we found two very spacious bedrooms, a lovely balcony looking out on to the pool and a small kitchenette which was certainly adequate for two weeks. (If you plan on doing a lot of your own catering I would perhaps take some additional cutlery as this seemed to be in short supply. We did not request more so it is possible we could have had more if we had asked). The bathroom was also fine. Danny's is spotlessly clean and sheets and towels are changed regularly. We also used the bar and the pool bar where everyone was very friendly and the prices very good. If I have one criticism it is that the pool is smaller than we expected and there was not much room for a swim with all the kids splashing about. The Kali Pigi pool is also quite small. However, the kids were having the time of their lives and it was good to witness this. We found that you could get sunbeds later in the day but not in the morning as they were mostly taken.

Danny's is only a few minutes walk from the beach and we tended to spend most of our time there. The beach is beautiful and perfect for small children because it is so shallow. Further out it is great for swimming and so so warm (in August). Golden sand. Heavenly. We loved the beach and we spent time at the Valais (en route from Danny's to the beach) where we could buy food and drinks and then use their (bigger and quieter) pool.

We went on trips to the caves and the shipwreck and also to Zakynthos town. We enjoyed both.

Alykanas is a lovely town with its assortment of shops, tavernas and pubs. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and we would certainly return to Dannys. Just one thing upset me and that was the poor dog who lives in a tree on the route from Dannys to the beach through the olive groves. It was chained to the tree so it could not venture far and no-one seemed to bother much with it although the horses nearby were very well cared for. I found this upsetting as it often needed water or some food. (I was buying it dog food). It was clear that other tourists were concerned as well by the amount of food that was appearing. However, if the Greeks want us to visit again and boost their economy they are going to have to put animal welfare higher on their agenda. I would visit Danny's again. The four of us loved it but if anyone takes any note of this review can something be done to help that poor dog.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor overlooking the pool and it was very spacious.

Ioannis and Dannys also marketed as Dannys and kali pigi is a family run hotel, We spent two weeks here July/August during a freaky heatwave 40c-45c everyday..Family run and kept clean by an army of cleaners, we were on an upper floor in a family room for four people/four seperate beds and a very basic kitchenette with a toilet and shower in an adjoining room , all very basic but adequate for sleeping in, a balcony overlooked the pool.
Air con was 6 euros per night and was needed during July/August. safety deposit boxes are also available....theres also no language barrier as everyone speaks fluent English.
Free WIFI, on site mini market and Dannys bar is nice and handy for a night cap just before hitting your pillow.
Nothing is too much trouble for Yannis and his fiancee...Ioana. a really friendly genuine couple..!!
There is nothing negative to report about this place....except maybe for the mentality of some holiday makers regarding sunbeds, which can be annoying and highly amusing at the same time..
On our first week we had no trouble getting a sunbed but on the second week two or three "Nesbit" families arrived and thought the sunbeds were put there just for them, they were up at 3am everyday just to reserve their beds, resulting in 90% of the beds reserved by 7am..
During July and August there is obviously going to be more kids,if you are not kid friendly you should either go somewhere else or book your holiday outside of the six week school holidays..
Yannis and ioana work really hard in the pool snack bar and the food is spot on, for the perfectionist looking for the most English of breakfasts...well you wont get better than here...
We came away feeling like we had known everyone for years...we enjoyed it 100%,
The friendliest place weve ever stayed at, we will be going back very soon....

Just came back from Danny and Ioannis apartments in Zykynthos. We had such an amazing holiday. Yannis and all the staff are so friendly and very helpful. We were made welcome from the first moment we checked in. The rooms are lovely and clean. Fantastic place to take the children. Food is lovely and very reasonable to. The pools are lovely - only downside the water changed the colour in our swimwear( turned yellow). About a 10 minute walk to the beach but worth the walk. Will defiantly go back there in the future.

Room Tip: We had a pool view on the ground floor. Lovely.

we spent two weeks at the appartments and had a fantastic time. The rooms were fairly basic but adequate. We found a lovely atmosphere around both the appartments and the resort. I normally use the first few days of a holiday unwinding and setteling in, but felt settled and relaxed instantly here. All the staff working here are great and they take time to speak and make sure everything is ok. We had a slight problem/misunderstanding I mentioned it to Yannis and he sorted it instantley he couldnt of been more helpful.
I've read a comment about children running wild. For all the time we were there, which was for two weeks from the16th July all the children seemed well behaved and polite. Also within the complex there is a quite pool so if you find children having fun and enjoying there holidays annoying you can easily depart yourself to the quite area!
Most mornings we had a walk down to the stunning beach, and then headed back to dannys as we got hungry. Never once were we unable to get sun loungers which made a very pleasant change. The food was top quality and resonably priced.
I have never previously returned to a resort or hotel but will be returning here.

I can understand why family's go back here year after year. Yannis and his family that run the apartments are lovely and can't do enough for you. We can honestly say I've never felt so welcome anywhere we've been.

Accommodation

Rooms are a bit on the small side and the block we stayed in didn't have the best view but it served a purpose for what we wanted. You have to pay extra for aircon 6 euro per day and ours was quite noisey but it was needed with the heat.

Food there was great, especially the breakfast. Full English from 4 euro include juice and tea/coffee. The supermarket on site is reasonable and Danny's bar attached to the apartments have something running each night to keep you entertained.
There are 2 pools, as we went peak period they were both very busy but we always found a bed. No getting up with the Germans at 6am here!

The only real complaint we had was the amount of children there were. Now we are a couple in our early 30's who are planning a family soon, so we have nothing against "noise makers" and it was the school holidays however, you would have thought these kids had just been let loose from the cupboard under the stairs. They were going MENTAL!! I've never ever experienced anything like it in my life and I used to work for Thomas Cook in Mallorca. Imagine around 20+ kids just let loose to do what they want around a pool with mega phones attached to their mouths and your getting close!
We escaped by hiring a quad ( 50 euro 3 days) and going to a few quite beaches along the cost.

All in all a nice place to stay if you have children, in a quiet resort with some great restaurants and bars ( especially busters) and the most nicest people you could ever wish to meet.
