“Excellent hotel, perfect location”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

My girlfriend and I stayed here in August for a week, it was exactly what we were looking for. We wanted a small hotel that wasn't filled with kids, out of the main town and near the beach. The hotel is the perfect size for couples wanting somewhere to relax by the pool. We often ended up spending the morning by the pool instead of the beach as it gets busy very quickly at the beach across the road.

The rooms are modern and clean, a double bed is actually two twins pushed together but makes for a large comfortable bed. The exterior of the hotel looks great lit up at night and you can spend many many euros in Harry's bar. The outdoor bar area is so relaxing at night, great cocktails and music.
For transport you can get the local bus which is absolute comedy and cheap. We're glad we stayed in this part of the island which is around 6 miles from the main town but there are plenty of restaurants around within walking distance. The Troulos Bay hotel on the opposite side of the road serves fantastic food! Salt & Pepper down the road is also very good.

The only thing I would say if I was being picky is that the breakfast could be better. There is a selection of toast, fruit, greek yoghurt, cereals and fried breakfast but the quality could be better. There is more than enough to get you set up for the day anyway. Overall is was perfect for what we wanted

We stayed at the Astoria 13 - 27 September. We're no strangers to Greek islands but this was the first time on Skiathos. We had a small room compared to some others - nowhere inside to sit down apart from the bed and storing empty cases was a challenge at first but it was just big enough - a shelf in the bathroom would have been very helpful but we were on the top floor which we had requested and at the back so the room stayed cool in the day but caught the late afternoon and early evening sun - that is a big plus when it's hot!

Room made up every day, linen changed every three days - absolutely fine with us. Could do with something to hang wet swimmers etc on apart from the balcony railings but again size is limited.

Very clean everywhere but football does rather dominate the TVs in the bar and reception - not intrusive though.

Breakfast week 1 was repetitive but good: lovely yoghurt, honey, peaches (tinned but nice enough), fresh melon and watermelon. Cooked didn't try as cold beans, small sausages didn't attract us at all. Week 2, the melon and watermelon disappeared, this with two weeks of the season for UK holidays left, so that was a disappointment and shouldn't happen. The layout of the breakfast room is a bit awkward which leads to a crowd of people at busyish times trying to get past the queue for the toaster to get to the tea or bread.

Bar food is OK but basic. Bar prices throughout the island appear to be suspiciously similar: G&T (Gordons) was 5.5 Euros - that's around £10 for two. We stopped using the bar as a result because we wouldn't pay £200 for a few drinks for 1 week. Is it really that expensive when supermarket Gordons is £24 per litre?

5 minutes from the beach in one direction and 10 minutes from Ratatouille in the other. 2 minutes from a bus stop (no. 20). Take a torch!

Room Tip: Top floor rear, small but cooler and better view. Possiblt quieter

My wife and I have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Astoria (Sept13/ 27th),
having read the 'excellent' reviews we expected things at the hotel to be ‘spot on’, but were slightly disappointed.
This was our second visit to Skiathos but the first time we had stayed in Troulos. The hotel is set in very pleasant surroundings, close to the beach, and within a 10min walk of all the local Taverna’s. Our room was a good size, on the ground floor overlooking the garden, which made it quiet and cool so we didn’t need to pay for any air-con. But the bathroom/ very wet room!!....well!!..whoever designed that must have been on the Ouzo! How you can expect to fit a shower (with little or no screen around it), a wash basin (about 3in deep), and a loo, in a space less than 2m square, and make things functional I do not know!! With the bathroom floor being wet for a long time after use the shower mat had to be placed outside the bathroom which meant every time you walked in from the passage into your room you trod on it or it jammed in the door.
The breakfast was ‘ok’, but as a previous reviewer mentioned the area it’s served in gets very congested (and when we were there the hotel was only about a quarter full!). Also the coffee was lukewarm and the toaster was useless.
Harry the Barman was very pleasant, as were the rest of the staff, and the whole place was kept very clean. The mosquitoes and wasps were rampant, but you can’t blame the hotel for that.
We found the best eating places were Ratatouille, The Villa Rosa, and The Sunrise. We also had a meal at Salt & Pepper which was disappointing (badly grilled sardines with cauliflower and broccoli!)
It was the last 3 weeks of the season so everywhere was very quiet; we got a good deal on car hire, and if you used euros rather than a card there were some deals to be had in the main shops in Skiathos Town.
We’d go back to Skiathos again, but try and get a flight without a refuelling stop on the way back – it took over 5 hours – as for the Astoria, well were not sure yet!

Room Tip: i imagine the rooms near the bar area would be best avoided in high season

The Astoria Hotel is situated in a beautiful area of Troullos, close to the beach and a short walk into the resort centre. The hotel was very clean and the rooms are nicely decorated. We stayed at the Astoria from the 13th September 2013 for one week and we both really wished we had booked a further week. We have been to Skiathos before, it is a beautiful Island with lovely resorts. First time to Troullos resort and will definately return, it is still typically Greek, very charming with plenty of good resturants/tavernas, ideal for couples or familiy alike. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, the breakfasts were very good with a good variety of food to choose from. The bar area is very pleasant with Harry the barman serving any beverage you require. The staff were very pleasant and I would recommend this hotel for anyone wanting a relaxing typically greek holiday.

Booked on 24/11/12 for 1 week stay at the Astoria for Sept 4th this year. On arrival was advised that there wasnt a room for us .Didnt find out a real reason but was advised that they informed their Agent on 3rd Sept that we would not have a room. We were taken to another hotel about 5 mins away by car but totally unsuitable as access was up a very very steep driveway. On advising the Astoria we were shown to another hotel but this was totally unsuitable also. I will now add that we are not the complaining type but these 2 hotels were totally unsuitable for different reasons. Eventually I suggested that we phone Alkyon Hotel in Skiathos Town to see if they had availability(we were staying there the following week) Very luckily they did so basically I had to arrange this change myself. I will say that Elena ?? was very helpful at this stage in smoothing the financial problems etc but I never discovered if this was a double booking or whatever although it did appear this had happened the previous week also(at least)

Room Tip: Contact in advance to ensure you do in fact have a room
