My girlfriend and I spent 2 nights here in October. Its an extraordinary, atmospheric place which is quite different to anywhere I have visited before. The accommodation was sensational - a thick stone-walled room actually built into the hillside with a great (and well stocked fire). The lack of plug sockets (you can still get stuff charged in the main building) and excess lighting really lent itself to a relaxed stay. The walking in the area was similarly great - the guys can provide a simple map plus descriptions. As others have said, the food is great and evenings by candlelight there were really quite something.

Highly recommended!

We had visited Milia resort 5 years ago, just for lunch and we promised to ourselves to come back for hollidays. This year we deciced to spend 14 days there, so we booked on April. Finaly we stayed just for 4 nights. I don't need to add something else about the location, as I agree with all previous reviews. The location is great and offers calm and relaxation. The food offered at the restaurant is at great quality, well cooked and at decent price. Unfortunately here we have to give our opinion on the accomodation that this resort offers. First of all I realised that it's an eco tourism destination and not agrotourism, as no activity was proposed. When we arrived at the resort, Zoran the guy from the restaurant brought us to our duplex stone house, located at the upper part of the small village. The first night we didn't have any hot water. When we asked the reason, the answered that there was a technical problem. The next day the problem was solved, but unfortunately the fourth day, after returning from the exotic beach of Elafonissi, there were no hot water again. As we have two young children (4,5 and 6 years old) you can realize that this is a serious problem. At the restaurant they told us that there was again a technical problem but as a miracle the next morning there was hot water??? The other thing that we faced this 4th evening was that after a wonderfull meal at the restaurant, we returned to our house and behind our daughter's cushion there was a little scorpion on the wall. I have to admit that the person responsible for bookings had prevent us that there was a possibility to see a scorpion, so we went there knowing that this was a possibility. Even though, this was a kind of scary experience.

The condition of the interior wasn't good, as cracks on the walls, spider nests and prints of killed insects were present.

Concluding, I want to say that the owners gave all their attention to the restauration part and the accomodation is at a very low level. I hope that my review will be taken in mind and ameliorations on the accomodation part will raise the level of this resort, as the location is magnificent.

When in Milia, don't miss the unique beach of Elafonissi (45 min on the south), the beach of Falassarna (50 min on the nordwest), to have a meal at Gramvoussa restaurant in Gramvoussa village(on the way from Falassarna to Chania, it's a bit hard to find but it's 150% value for money)

I spent the most amazing week in Crete at Milia with Wildfitness! It is in a fantastic location up in the mountains and the food is to die for. Fresh goat cheese, yogurt, fresh organic meats and veggies were provided at each of our meals and we needed it after our fun and unique workouts. Our great Wildfitness trainers took us to the beach to do barefoot running and games, led us through hikes in the surrounding mountains and created obstacle courses in the surrounding countryside that were great! You leave feeling amazing and a few pounds lighter! I can't wait to hopefully come back!!!

Milia is a truly magical place to stay. 'Hotel' does not sum up Milia well - it is more like a retreat, tucked away in a hillside in Crete. It is a lovely, lovely place to come from an outdoor holiday. It is a great place to walk from to explore the neighbouring hills, or just relax and enjoy the views from one of the numerous terraces.

The rooms are quirky and characterful, each one different, some literally built into the rock of the hillisde. All are simple, many have no electric sockets (Milia is solar powered). All have open fires that can be lit in the cool months of the year. The food is simply delicious - organic and locally produced. Everyone at Milia is helpful and friendly.

Milia is the extreme opposite to the uniformity and lack of soul of so many hotels. If you are looking for a special place to totally escape from the rush and pressures of everyday living then this might well be the place for you. Sitting out looking at the stars after a day outside walking in the hills was close enough to perfection for me. I want to return to Milia soon.

I have stayed here just for one night, but the place is fantastic! They grow their own food and meat, and it's all served in the restaurant for decent prices. They also sell some of their produce to take home with you. Don't forget to check out the olive oil.
Energy, sewage, water supply is all done on a sustainable basis. If you want to get away from the crowds, this is the place to go.
