I brought a small group tour to Milia for a little hiking and a lot of cooking. What a wonderful experience for everyone involved. You really get to know each other when you start cooking together. Our food was nowhere near as good as what came out of their kitchen. The rooms were all different and all stone. The owner, Tassos, was charming and very helpful with everything. The entire staff was excellent. A great visit and I will return.

We stayed at Milia expecting a healthy and enjoyable experience. The area is beautiful, the hikes were wonderful (even in November rains!), but the kitchen was the stand-out part of our stay. Every thing we ordered was 10/10 amazing. We ate 8 meals at Milia and were smiling and bouncing around after each one. We even were invited to help the chef prepare dinner (and got to learn the recipes). If you're in Crete, have a rental car, and love food, you would be remiss to not go here.

Me and my family stayed at Milia the last week of October, and it was amazing. Except hiking in the nearby area, it was easy to do excursions to neighboring places for swimming or sightseeing. On top of all that, the restaurant is top-class, all is ecological produce and very good!

This is a difficult place to review.

Overall there were many things we enjoyed - the ambience, the architecture, the traditional feel, the local traditional food, the rustic feel, the history, the sustainable ethics and so on. The videos on the website were quite emblematic of the overall vibe here.

A few details marred our otherwise perfect vision of this place. The service was good, but not anything exceptional. My phone calls to the hotel seemed a bit uncomfortable, although the owner was very friendly/witty in person. We were never asked about our plans, or given any information (besides what was in the welcome booklet).

Also, because our rental car broke down, we were unable to make it back to the hotel on our second (and final) night. We called to inform them, but were never asked about it again when we arrived the next morning to check out and pick up our things. Nor were we offered breakfast, which we missed. These things weren't really to be expected, but it would have been a nice gesture.

The videos on the website give the impression that there were many activities to participate in and that the sustainable practices were very visible - but we didn't see much of it. Perhaps they make more of an effort in the high season, but the place was fully booked and it was a very laissez-faire approach.

It was also quite isolated - which was a bit of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it makes everything more wild, tranquil and authentic (which is nice if you like that sort of thing, which we definitely do), but on the other hand, the drive is a bit of a pain if you have to do it twice every day (or more). Still, this was fully explicit on the website and we fully expected this so it did not negatively affect our opinion. Also, as others have mentioned, you're limited to the restaurant there for dinner unless you want to make a long drive and get back late from somewhere else. For what we paid, dinner should also be included (maybe exclude wine or something).

Anyways, we did enjoy our stay, but a few extra touches to better align with expectations from the website would have improved our review.

This place is like a little paradise. We were there in mid-October and it was still hot and sunny although you needed warm layers in the morning and evening. The accommodation is fantastic and so is the food. The staff are supremely helpful. The best thing, having your own fireplace in your room and your own hammock just outside. You can drive to the coast in 40 minutes if you can drag yourself away fom the mountain air.

We came to eat at the restaurant and it was absolutely worth it. Coming with a car was a little adeventure but surely worth it (quite a high mountain road). The view from the restaurant is amazing and you can taste the passion with which the meal was prepared. Loved it!

beautifully restored mountain village in one of the greenest valleys we visited in crete. Beautiful cottages to stay in, nice beds and bathrooms and all with private terraces. Lovely homemade organic local food served in candlelit restaurant with traditional wood-burning oven. Friendly service. Great walks from your doorstep. Romantic.
