We were at the lodge 7/27/13, although the outside building was not much to look at, the inside was very comfotable, spacious and clean. I walked down the slope to the river and skipped some stones. Nice place! Only advice to management, put your smokers on top level, their smoke drifted up to our balcony and room.

We stayed at the Denali Grizzly Bear last month and I would say it is average. We had a 32 ft RV with full hook-up. The camp sites are not very private. Be prepared to be close to your neighbor. There are more private sites that do not offer hook-ups. The restrooms are clean and relatively updated. The showers only run for 2 minutes for 75 cents, the first 30 seconds the water is ice cold despite following the instructions to have it all the way on hot, there is no option to add more time until the water stops. The general store has supplies, food, etc. Denali overall is small and there are not a lot of camping options. Overall our 2 days at the Grizzly Bear were good. The wifi offered comes with a steep cost.

Room Tip: If you have an RV get a site without hook-up and run your generator. This will give you a more private treed site.

We stayed here one night in July. the positive . it was clean. negative. no shower and the shower house available is a 75 cents for 2 min. 1 of which is cold water coming out of a pipe with no shower head, the cabin backed the major road and was very noisy, we were put in a small I mean small cabin where my husband had to get out of bed for me go to the bathroom (bed jamed in the corner) the toilet rocked like a rocking horse. Inside layout was like there was no thought to it. Book somewhere else if they dont put you in the back new area .....even if you have to pay more ... Just not worth it. We were in the bootlegger which fit it... Like it was put together and maintained by a drunk fellow.... But it was clean, kudos to the maid

Being bumped to the Grizzly Bear Cabins turned out to be just fine. We had a room in their new "D" building lodge that was along the creek. The rooms are simple, yet clean. The office took time to be sure that the Backcountry Lodge knew where we were and we were picked up in a timely fashion. Grizzly Bear does not have a restaurant, but we scurried across the road to McKiinley Village Restaurant and Bar for supper and breakfast. Thank you Grizzly Bear for taking care of us on our first adventure into Alaska and to Denali. We appreciate that you cared for us during the June heat wave!

Room Tip: Along the creek behind the property!

Unless you are camping or trailering, do not stay at this hotel. For a hundred more a night you can stay in a beautiful lodge up the street or across the street; one that offers friendly service and basic amenities that Grizzly does not. The 'premium' rooms are any but premium. The river views are blocked by trees and the campers are right in front of you so you hear them all night and they walk right by your cabin all day. The cabins light fixtures, drapes, carpet are falling apart. The bathrooms do not have a sink, the sink is in your bedroom. It was all fair less than 'rustic' and the price was not worth the room. We were staying for three nights and it was so bad we went to several other places to stay there instead, (even knowing we would lose our money) but everyone else was booked. Ben was snide and not helpful at all, to say the least. If you are going to stay here, stay in the hotel rooms, they are much cleaner and updated. My recommendation would be to stay somewhere else.
