“Not for us!!!!!”
Reviewed 11 October 2006

My wife and I were at the Davani in August. We did not realize that there are three Palace Hotels on Corfu. The Corfu Palace just off the main town area is very nice, but we could not get in on a walk in basis. So we were stuck at the Davani Palace. We are extensive travellers and have been spending two weeks in Europe for the past 15 years. We travel first class, this hotel is not that. I would say it is 2 stars by most standards in Europe. The common areas are tired. The rooms are spartan, and almost clean. The beds are hard but clean. We were dissapointed. I will say that when I express my displeasure (hair on the floor in the room and bath) they did upgrade us to a suite. Nice, but not for us if we return.

We stayed there in September 2006, booked via Olympic holidays.

Good points:
The hotel is clean and staff friendly.
All of Olympic's reps were helpful and seemed to know the island well.
Noise from the airport isn't too bad and the dining room has views of aircraft taking off / landing.
Approximately 30 mins walk from the town centre, but there is a bus service. (Tickets have to be bought in advance, from the hotel shop).
Breakfast was great, with a wide selection of hot and cold food.
The hotel offers dinner at 14 euros for Olympic guests. This 'buffet' style meal is superb, with a starter, main course, pudding, ice cream and biscuits!

Bad points:
Not suitable for people with mobility problems - the hotel is at the top of a steep driveway. Also, the roads around it are narrow, with no pavements and parked cars everywhere.
Air conditioning is noisy.

Overall:
Excellent value for money, would stay there again.

My wife and I visited corfu for the first time and had previously read the reviews about the Divani Palace and thought it sounded ok
Anyone staying must have a front facing room as the rear rooms have no view whatsoever but dont worry about the airport runway close by you do get used to it
The busiest days for incoming and outgoing flights are Monday and the early hours of Saturday morning - the airport is so small it is amazing they cope
The hotel is very nice but is located in a residential area and is approached up a steep incline which can be a problem for the less mobile
The walk to Corfu town takes a steady 40 minutes but is well worth it for the views
One downside is that the hotel seems to be a stopping off point for Kontiki 18-35 holidays as we had 2 coaches on separete occassions staying for 4 nights and although the travellers were generally well behaved they could become noisy during the early hours when coming in after a night out - we were pleased that it was not Club 18 - 30
There seemed to be a lot of coach parties of varying nationalities coming and going but it wasnt a problem as most were of the older generation and please note there is nothing much for young children and there is no evening entertainment - you make your own
There is a small selection of eateries and a few small shops close by but we opted to eat in the hotel and at 10 euros for a hot buffet we thought was fair - a reasonable merlot wine is 13 euros and 1 litre of water is 2.50 euros
We travelled with Olympic holidays flying from East Midlands airport and would certainly recommend them - the rep at the hotel
Cheryl lives on Corfu and is very knowledgeable and can recommend various trips Paxos and Parga is a must together with the island tour
The staff at the Hotel are fantastic but that alone would not encourage me to return but we do have some great photos and happy memories

My husband and I have just returned from 2 weeks stay at the Divani Hotel, We found the staff most helpful and the rooms were cleaned everyday with clean sheets and towels changed daily. We had a rear facing room which had I can only decribe as a 'forrest' to look onto and with all the greenery we were bitten by the mosquitoes every time we went onto the balcony, first time in 30years of going abroad my husband has been bitten! so not being able to sit on the balcony that sort of spoilt alot the holiday.
We found the drinks in the hotel very expensive and we were really getting fed up of trailing around the very few taverna's after about a week. The location also spoilt the holiday for us.
The aircraft noise did not bother us to much and we found the aircrafts awesome watching then taking off and landing.
Overall the hotel was good but we would not go back to that location as its first time I have wanted to come home after about 10 days!! Not a lot to do in the evenings, what a difference if the hotel had had entertainment.
The White Spot Taverna was brilliant with home cooked food and a very helpful owner and very reasonably priced local wine.

I recently visisted the Divani Palace hotel for a week with a friend. Having read the reviews and looking at the hotel's own website I was looking forward to the trip and quite confident the hotel would be nice. Don't get me wrong the hotel is comfortable, clean and friendly, however it is not what I would expect from a 4* hotel, it is more 3*. The rooms are not very spacious and had mould on the ceiling which seemed to be the reason for the strong musty smell in the room that got worse as the week went on. The air conditioning worked well and the maids came in daily and cleaned the room which was good. The hotel generally needs a refurbishment to get it back up to standard of 4*, the pool area needs new sunbeds and towel service and the poolside bar area needs a makeover. The pool itself was lovely and very clean. The bar inside and the reception area seem modern and comfortable.
The aircraft noise didn't bother us too much, let's face it the noise lasts around 30 seconds and then it's all over.
The other problem as previously mentioned in reviews in the location. You have to get taxi's or the bus if you want to get out and about, and as per the other reviews during the day the hill climb back to the hotel is not ideal. However all in all we had a relaxing holiday and it was great value for money. If you expect a 4* hotel then I would not recomend the Dvani Palace.

  • Liked — The pool area was quiet with few children
  • Disliked — The smell in the rooms!

We stayed at the hotel for two weeks in early August 2006. Very clean hotel. Air con was excellent. Staff friendly. Breakfasts good but should finish at 10:30 and not 10am!

Immediate area not very inspiring although Mama Lina's restaurant (bottom of the hotel entrance and turn right) is very good value. Fairly long walk to end of peninsula for the view to Mouse Island or long walk into Corfu town.

We used the buses regularly to get into town centre and further afield to beach resorts. Buses are cheap but local buses are a bit hit and miss on the timings!

Airport noise was not too bad and the kids loved watching the planes come and go. No loud noise from local area. Swimming pool is excellent. Lunches in cafe were overpriced for what is essentially fast food.

Not much for the kids to do so day trips are essential. Car hire is a good option at least for a few days.

Overall, very good and a fair price for the holiday - transfers to/from the airport are obviously very short!

  • Liked — cleanliness
  • Disliked — quality of location
  • Tips/Secrets — use buses to get around the island and/or hire a car for a few days

We went away as a couple for a relaxing two weeks and that's exactly what we got. The hotel was lovely, though the beds were a little hard and on the old side. Other than that the rooms are great, a good size with fab air-con.
The bar and pool-side bar are great, Nikkos the bar man is fun too. Though food by the pool is limited and overpriced.
We had an excellent stay, the airplane noise was irritating at times but in no way spoiled the holiday.
Food options are very limited in the area, so trips into Corfu town or elsewhere are recommended. Bars and night time entertainment is also quite limited, but for a relaxing break it's absolutely great!
