On arrival was greeted by sophia made to feel most welcome, the hotel is basic (all you need ) although if you need hair dryer take one, rooms spacious clean and comfy beds, the best thing about muses are the people who run it sophia merulla and niccos make you feel like family ! All of them cant do enough for you. The restaurant serves the best food in Koukounaries and sophia runs the best bar/pool bar with the best atmosphere and best drinks YAMMAS Great place for exploring 3 fab beeches in walking distance, bus stop 25 right outside hotel will take you to town for 2 euro, other good food places are big bad wolf, bus stop 23 and augustera bar is great for full english. Can't recommend the island or the hotel enough dont be put of with negative views on cats, bee's or anything else ! Yes theres a couple but no more than any other place i have been! You can't change mother nature! And some people are never happy ! Excellent place, people, and value for money we will be going back every year

First experience of a late deal with Monarch/Cosmos.......normally Thomsons only. My friend alerted me to a booking he had made at the Theodora Studios, self catering, in Kolios at a bargain £139 ea. 2 days before, I booked the same. The day before we were going, at 5pm, Cosmos phoned to say the accommodation was overbooked and would we accept The Muses in Koukounaries and then also offered a £50 ea refund.....alternative....cancel.

The four of us went for it and no regrets at all. On arrival, as could be expected as last on the list, the rooms allocated were not as we would have wished....bit far away for my wife and no views...basic but, in all honesty, for the money we were paying, they would have done if forced. BUT, Maria found us alternative rooms that, though not salubrious, were more than adequate, being two rooms within an apartment, normally reserved for families.

The rooms were clean, bins emptied every day and towels every 3, slept fine. we were close to reception and dining room and we now had breakfast included, aircon and the fridge. Nice pool, very nice dining areas and bar but the really nice thing about the Muses was the friendly efficiency of the staff. A thanks to Marula, Nikos and Sophia (The minx).....all very hard working and happy.

The restaurant produced meals as good as anywhere on the island at reasonable prices and the bar meals at lunchtime, although limited in options, were good value.

Koukounaries proved to be an ideal base for us. Our friends found plenty of walks, we benefitted from being right by bus stop 25, making it easy for us to pop to Skiathos Town and Agia Paraskevi (could not miss the Green Park or Aspralitho....still super meals).

All in all......lovely area....relaxing and very good value for money.......even the standard rates.

Room Tip: If you are not happy with your room, talk NICELY to Marula or Maria.....no guarantees but they certa...

Muses Hotel - Standard greek hotel
Location - Amazing beaches near by (just a short 5 min walk) with traditional greek resturants very nice food.

Bus stop opposite hotel which takes you right into town and past plenty of stops with beautifull beaches and lovely restruants.

Back to muses hotel..

We got the impression they look after the ones that come back year after year. (most people in the hotel had been coming to the island 8-10years in a row)
We arrived at the hotel and they had put us in a pretty rubbish room. so we went down to reception and they were more than happy to change our room. - we recieved our keys and we were very happy with the room we were given. (Clean/Tidy)
The food at the resturant was gorgeous they always had catch of the day fish that they would come round to show you. menu was standard but lovely food!!
Didnt spent much time in pool. as beaches were way to gorgeous. but pool was clean and nice size.
Bar at the hotel is brilliant with lovely barman/woman - very friendly

Overall..
Hotel was standard. but it was all we needed. I would definetly stay again here.

Skiathos is an amazing island and we have fell in love with it. if we went again (Wich we definetly will) id definetly consider staying here again.

the review which talks about cats is rubbish my wife and I were staying at the muses when this review was written and yes there were a few cats about but they were not encouraged by the staff and we only saw the occasional instance of any of the diners feeding them, the thought of anyone walking around spreading cat food is ridiculous.read all the other excellent reviews of the muses,we both thought it was excellent and are going to book again in the new year for two weeks stay

We really enjoyed our stay at the Muses Hotel, mostly due to the kind and helpful staff. We had to cut short our holiday by 1 week and return to the UK and the help that was given by Maria was exceptional and shall never be forgotton - thanks again Maria. Thanks also to Lisa of Cosmos for providing return flight options so quickly.

When we arrived at the hotel we were given a choice of 2 rooms and opted for a very spacious room near the top of the complex, to the left, facing west for the sunny evening balcony - just perfect for our pre-dinner drinks. We ate at the hotel, the Panorama hotel next door and Strophilia, just along to the left from the hotel. Further away we also went to Infinity Blue (bus stop 15) and in the Town, Lo & La, an Italian restaurant highly recommended looking over the port and Le Bistrot with lovely fresh fish and a beautiful view if you book in advance. Good meals were had at all of them. Seek out the music at Alexandros Taverna - just up from Lo & La (ask them for directions). Really greek and everyone having a good relaxing time. The cocktails at Marilyn's on the front are great and you feel a bit special sitting there with people watching you rather than the other way around!

It is wonderful to have so many lovely beaches to choose from. We walked to:
Ambelakia - 10 mins. Very exclusive, (you need to book in advance for the sunbeds and restaurant). Lovely beach and fairly quiet.
Eleni - 15 mins. Brilliant for sunsets we understand although we haven't stayed to see one as yet. Next time then!
Krifi Amos - 25 mins. Almost deserted and we are here in August! We will return.
Mandraki - 30 mins through the pine forest. Our favourite beach and walk. Went here twice. So quiet and relaxing. The taverna does the nicest homemade burgers I have ever tried and not my normal choice.
Koukounaries - 5/10 mins around the lagoon. It was very noisy and crowded when we went there around 4pm but managed to fine a slightly quieter spot. It is a lovely beach but was a lot quieter when we visited Skiathos in late May 2011.

We only used the pool once. With so many beaches to choose from we do not understand why you would spend the day around the pool. There are other beaches that we want to seek out and therefore we will no doubt return in 2 or 3 years time.

We love Skiathos.

Arrived at Muses for a week chill out. Was even more chilled as I hurt my ankle on arriving! Maria and her staff couldn't have been more helpful - even providing a cold pack for my ankle and delivering our meals to our room in the evening - so a big thank you! Rooms were clean and serviced daily - a bit of TLC could help though - furniture was a bit tired looking. Restaurant served excellent meals in the evening and we were pleasantly surprised to find the prices were very reasonable. Nice pool and there was never a day we couldn't get a sun bed, very quiet and relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: As rooms are in blocks behind the hotel and on a slope would recommend asking for one nearer the hot...

Stayed from 4th to 18th September. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room always kept clean and sheets and towels changed every three days. Most of the rooms are in separate blocks of 5 - 6 rooms, all of which have balconies that two people can sit comfortably out on; the blocks are surrounded by well kept grounds. Breakfast is served from 8am - 10am and is a 'continental' buffet style but does have boiled eggs and at least one hot dish. The restaurant is only open in the evening but serves very good food at reasonable prices and is good value for money.
Only 500 metre walk from Koukounaries beach which must be one of the most beautiful in the world. Opposite a lagoon which is well worth a walk around leading to the far end of the beach. A bus stop is almost opposite hotel; bus runs from 0700 to 0100, every 20 mins [approximately] and costs 2 euros for single trip to Skiathos, which takes about 35 minutes. It stops at 20 or so other bus stops giving access to other beaches and terminates at Skiathos Harbour. One word of advice, if you are in Skiathos town after 10pm go to the terminus to catch the bus - that way you MIGHT get a seat!!
The hotel has a small swimming pool with some 20 or so sunbeds, sheltered by natural umbrella type canopies surrounding it, and a good-value pool bar
It says much for the standard of the Muses that quite a few of the guests return every year - I for one will certainly go back to it. One drawback, which is the reason I haven't said it is worth an excellent rating, to use the refrigerator in the room costs 3 euros per day. I thought 42 euros for a 14 day stay was exorbitant - and you can't even bring it home with you!! Despite that, I would have no hesitation in recommending the Muses to anyone who fancies visiting one of the most picturesque Greek islands.
