“great location, not the most friendly feel”
Reviewed 22 May 2014

I will start with the positives.

The location is perfect. It is located within walking distance of restaurants and cafes, and the beach is gorgeous. The restaurant area has a sand floor, which certainly adds to the atmosphere of the experience.

Jane, the manager, was very friendly as was the gentleman at the front desk (whose name I am forgetting). They were very helpful and checked in wth us each day.

The rooms were lovely and clean (not my style of decor, but lovely nonetheless). We had an upstairs room with a balcony, which was beautiful, looking out onto the ocean. I would recommend getting an upstairs room.

The negatives:

The staff in the restaurant area consisted mostly of young women, all of whom seemed to be part of a click of girls who seemed to be inconvenienced with any of our requests. One morning at breakfast, they were chatting and giggling until I asked them for more juice, which had run out. The smiles immediately left their faces, they took the jiuce container to refill, wihout saying a word. These seemingly small things created an attitude and an overall feel that was less comfortable than any of the other places we stayed during out Seychelles visit.

The breakfast was fine overall. The coffee was not so great. The first day, it was burnt, and the remaining days, it didn't improve much.

We didn't have any other meals there, so I can't comment about the rest of the food.

So overall, the location was super, the rooms were nice, and the staff was not too friendly. If you are going for the location and can let the attitude roll off of your back, you will probably have a decent experience.

We spent extra to get an ocean view room. What we got is a view of a stack of old lounge chairs and some dead wood. Directly outside of our door is the maids work room, I thought that might be a problem but it turns out that we were up before them because the water didn’t work in our room. We stayed here as part of our honeymoon in April 2014. We were given an ocean view room as requested but it soon became apparent that the water wasn't working in our room. There were men on site trying to fix it, who after an hour assured us it was fixed but it wasn't, but when we asked if we could have another room, were told it was fully booked. We went out for dinner and on return it still wasn't fixed so we were told we could have another room, despite just a couple hours earlier told there were none. The hotel owner had told us the problem had just begun that afternoon, but the barman accidentally let slip the problem had been going on for the past three days and had been waiting for parts from Mahe!! So they allocated us that room knowing there was no water and that we were on our honeymoon. Very annoying. The next morning we were moved to a suite, which really wasn't any different than our first room, just split over two levels. The hotel owner offered us a complimentary cocktail in the bar, which they tried charging us for on check out. The staff in general weren't great. Everything seemed to be a bother to them, especially the breakfast staff. They had faces like smacked you know whats! Speaking of breakfast, it was awful. On our first morning the croissants weren't cooked in the middle. Breakfast basically consisted of some iffy pastries, toast,a few cereals and a cooked breakfast thrown together under one dish on a burner, that was kept right next to the cold meats and cheeses. The hotel itself was quite pretty and the bedrooms furnished well. Ours wasn't a great experience, hence the two star rating. But I imagine without the issues we had, it would be a three star stay. I would say though that we also stayed in luxury accommodation at the Hilton on Mahe in the same week and it was the same price as Village du Pecheur, so think the latter was massively overpriced in comparison.

A wonderful hotel on a beach of breath-taking beauty. The staff very informative and had a wonderful positive energy. A great place from which to explore Praslin. BI was travelling alone but highly recommend this hotel for couples and families.

Room Tip: Doesn't need a swimming pool at all !

Nice hotel placed right on the beach. We stayed in a room with view of the beach. Not many hotels with that location on that type of beach. Good restaurant on the hotel as well. Only remark could be that not all staff was as service mined as they should. But not an issue.

We spent Christmas at the Village du Pecheur which is a small Boutique hotel split into two annexes one directly on the beach, the other across a small road adjacent to the main hotel entrance. In general the hotel was good it was originally furnished, clean and in a great location good and its good value for money for the Seychelles. However the local waitresses did let the hotel down, they made doing as little as possible into an art form, they set up the Breakfast tables for diner about 1hr before the breakfast had finished and any guests wanting a breakfast after 9am were corralled to the tables at the back of the restaurant area. You needed to say you wanted to sit looking at the beach and then were reluctantly allowed to site at a table with a view. One couple told us that after 30 min waiting for their dinner order to be taken they got up and went into the kitchen to find the staff chatting when they said they wanted to order they were fobbed off with ‘its coming’ to which the guest answered that’s amazing I haven’t ordered it yet.
If you want service when you eat which is very important to us, I suggest you eat in one of the many restaurants very nearby.

Room Tip: The rooms in the beach annex have the views with the annex over the road being larger.

Stayed at VDP for 4 days for my honeymoon in the 2nd week of December. Although the initial reviews were a bit sketchy, the experience was quite the contrary. As soon as the staff found out I was on my honeymoon, the staff upgraded me to the Ocean view room which was awesome (size, cleanliness, decor). The breakfast spread was quite decent and the food in the restaurant was good. The staff helped us plan our time there with excursions to La Digue and snorkelling at St.Pierre. Not a lot to do generally in Praslin but enjoyed the 4 days we spent.

All in all, total value for money.
