“The place to go for intamacy and romance......”
Reviewed 10 July 2011

This is an amazing hotel nestled indistinguishably in an authentic Greek village and was originally a winery. The guest service is amazing and the grounds beautiful. Each room is more than a suite and our room had a small kitchen and living room with a jacuzzi off the back patio. The only negatives included a day delay in removing someone elses room service dishes and some of the bathroom fixtures were in need of repair.
The restaurant is very romantic inside and out but the food only "so-so". There are nightly wine tastings in their cava which was a real treat although the Greek wines are over priced and, for my palate, not so good, especially the white wines produced throughout the country. Some of the reds are very drinkable but I have yet to find a value. If you want a quite, exclusive, and romantic getaway, this is the place. We would certainly go back for more...

The horrible service at this beautiful resort really impacted our visit. The driver of the shuttle from the port was rude at best, dropping us off at the bottom of a steep drive. The reception was not very friendly and we did not receive the type of room booked, prepaid and guaranteed - instead of 2 twin beds in each of 2 rooms we had 2 kings. Not horrible but not what we reserved for 4 friends travelling together. Our rooms were attractive and spacious, and interesting. However, the bedding is the worst I have encountered in years - rock hard mattresses, thin sheets, no mattress pad, and one horrible thin blanket for the two of us. While support staff was friendly, the management was very rude at times. There was a private party at the resort, and all those not included, about 50 of us, were basically told to leave. When we did not leave, we were shadowed by guards of some sort. The party lasted until 2 AM with music absolutely blasting into the morning hours. The entire situation was handled in a very insulting and rude manner with no regard for the other guests. While the room was clean, for the 3 days of our stay we watched a pile of glasses and dishes accumulate opposite our door, deposited by the maid and/or some other guest. By the time we left there were about 25 dirty plates and glasses piled up. The security light outside our door did not work, making it very difficult to see and use the keyed lock. This was not fixed in spite of our request to do so. The shuttle does take you to town, but the driver offered not one word of where to go or when he would return, or how to find him to return. Two sentences of which road to take and which direction would have been so easy and helpful. The resort is an old winery, and a beautiful place, but the restaurant, in an old wine cellar, was extremely expensive with mediocre food and horrible service. Our meal was at least twice the cost of all others, and one dish tasted bad and was completely untouched, with no offer of something else or to take it off the check. There is nightly wine tasting, unless there is a private party, and a spa, but our appointment was cancelled upon arrival because of the private party. Overall inpression - unless you are part of a very large and "very special" party, forget it and stay somewhere else. We were actually given the explanation, by the manager, that there were "very special" guests in the resort, and therefore we should leave for the night! As you can guess, we won't return.

Dear Guest

Thank you for posting your comments regarding your recent stay at Vedema Resort.

Our aim and continuous effort is to offer our guests an indigenous experience, therefore your feedback is very important to us. Your comments are essential for the improvement of our services and we would like to reassure you that we will take into consideration all the issues that you have raised.

Kindly be advised that Vedema Resort as a member of the Luxury Collection of Starwood, follows the standards of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide regarding room ammenities and services.

There was indeed a private party on one evening during your stay which lasted until 02:00am. We would like to apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced, something that we have tried to adress by offerring complimentary dinner for 5 in our restaurant. However your indication that the guest of the private party should cover all your accomodation costs as well as your flight tickets and dinner in a restaurant of your choice outside the hotel was declined by us.

We were very surprised with your comment that we have asked you to leave the resort for the night. This is completely against our philosophy and against the standards of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.

We hope we will be able to welcome you back to Vedema Resort in the near future in order to alter your opinion and exceed your expectations.

Kind Regards

Alex Mousios

THe hotel is just charming, in the middle of a little village called Megalohori. From our window, we could see the church and small typical houses. It's build on an old winery made from volcano brick, what makes it very romantic and beautiful. We wered welcomed with a glass of champagne and a bottle of their own wine in the room and some fruits as well. The room was really clean, so as every other hotel facilities we used. The staff gave us the welcome tour to show us around the resort. The jacuzzi is huge, and is surrounded by wonderful garden and tree.
Well, the hotel and staff met all my expectation and we had a lovely time.
It's not far from Fira, and a small shuttle brings you there or at the beach, not often enough tough. The best way to explore the island is by 4x4 or scooter anyway.
Only negative point, we only stayed one night!!!
Thanks to everyone at the Vedema Resort.

First of all, the Vedema is far from an ordinary hotel in its design. Rather than interrupting the cityscape with a jarring structure like so many chain hotels, the Vedema blends into, and is virtually indistinquishable from, its surrounding village of Megalachori. And the rooms, villas really, borrowing from the clean, elegant local architecture with short stair cases separating bedrooms, bathrooms and living spaces for privacy, and terraces and windows that open for views and fresh air, give guests a sense of living in an extension of Megalachori.

More importantly, though is the Vedema's amazing staff. Help with booking a speedboat tour around Santorini with the best local captain--not a problem. Getting a rental car delivered within the hour--not a problem. Akrotiri closed for repairs--not a problem, visit Ancient Thira, instead. The Vedema team was knowledgeable, helpful, efficient and friendly.

Also, dining at the Vedema is great either on the terrace or in the grotto. And the Santorini wine tasting evening is a must. We learned a lot about some of most unique and interesting wines in the world and had a great time doing it.

My family and I had a wonderful time at the Vedema and recommend it to others without hesitation.

The staff of this resort was very nice and very helpful throughout our stay. I would rate the physical plant of the resort and the room to be quite good and quite comfortable, but I would hesitate to use 5-star as it says in some materials. It's very nice and very comfortable, but I wouldn't go as far as luxurious that you might expect from a 5-star. There are a number of restaurants within a 5-minute walk of the resort, so that's handy. A shuttle runs into town about four times a day and also to the beach, but neither are walkable from the resort. We did enquire about tours from the resort and the choices were limited and expensive. There are more choices in town, but I can't speak to the quality of either. I was a little frustrated afterward that the SPG points did not post and I had to file a claim for these. That was fixed quickly. I was also double-charged for the room deposit, and still waiting for that to be resolved.

My husband and I just came back from a trip to Greece and Turkey. While at Santorini, we stayed at the Vedema Resort and absolutely loved it! It was the best hotel we stayed in during the entire trip.

The hotel itself is beautiful -- literally a little village within a village.

The staff, (particularly Alex, the hotel manager) was always eager to help, received us with a smile and a lovely glass of prosecco. Everyone at the hotel was super pleasant and helpful.

We want to give kudos to Alex in particular. He truly made us feel welcome and special. We also appreciated his recommendations on what to do for the short period of time we stayed in the island and how to make the most of our stay. (We were there for only 2 days... after having such a wonderful time, we wished we could have stayed longer!)

The room was really impressive -- with our own pool and Jacuzzi (we stayed at an Olympian Villa).

Although the hotel location is not right in the middle of the action, we enjoyed the quiet time we had to sleep and relax in the morning, and had no problem getting into town for a nice day/night out. The food (we had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel) was delicious.

All in all, we had a wonderful time and would fully recommend this hotel to anyone considering a visit to Santorini! (We also recommend the boat tour -- it was phenomenal! The hotel arranged a wonderful afternoon boat ride with Santorini Sailing Center).

So, thank you Vedema! We'll surely be back for a second visit.

Was bit hesitant when we were booked into this hotel as previous trip advisor reviews have been fairly mixed. However we had a amazing experience right from the warm welcome - Theodessia and Eleonora thank you! The rooms ( we stayed in a Athenian Suite) are spacious and very well appointed. The bed was amazingly comfortable. Bathrooms have very nice amenities and the complimentary bottle of white wine is a nice touch.
The breakfast is extensive and very good and the shuttles to Fira and the beach very convenient. The village of Megalohori is very quaint and has a excellent restaurant- Rakis which we highly recommend
As we were leaving later in the day the hotel was very kind to give us a day room at no charge. Congratulating Alex! You and your team are doing a great job we will definitely be back!
