Mayor La Grotta Verde Grand Resort

Stayed for a week at the Aquis Agios Gordios Beach Hotel at the end of May and would agree with other comments here on Trip Advisor. Great location (if you don’t mind steps), clean, modern, fantastic food and really hard working staff. Actually I have to say, this more than anything, makes it a great hotel.

We booked a suite, which was very new and spacious. It had panoramic views over Agios Gordios and the beach/sea area. The suites are further up the hill from the main hotel and are therefore probably quieter but also require a bit more energy to get to. You can of course take the hotel golf buggy up the hills if you ask.

Outside of the hotel there is the very small but pleasant village of Agios Gordios. It has one main street with lots of restaurants which seemed to be mostly Greek (sorry, no English pub food here).

The beach of Agios Gordios stretches from the hotel for a kilometre along past the village. It’s busiest with sunbeds/umbrellas around the Aquis Agios Gordios Beach Hotel but then pretty much nothing at the other end of the beach. The waters are very clear along the beach. Yes there is some seaweed but it is the sea.

There is at least one car hire place in Agios Gordios. Which I believe, does scooters as well as cars. The main hospital is in Corfu Town though. We hired a car for a week from Corfu Airport, so no idea of costs but we did see the ambulance at least once in the village.

If you do hire a car I would not recommend a trip to Lake Korission as it’s a bit dry at the moment. Most of the southern part of Corfu isn’t that inspiring and therefore probably not worth the trip. Corfu Town is definitely worth a visit if you like history/architecture/Greek culture.

Just one practical point, driving in Corfu is relatively easy, signage is in Greek most of the time and mostly non-existent off the main roads of Corfu. A satnav is a good idea if you have to be somewhere at a specific time but getting lost has its pleasures as well if you don’t.

All in all, an excellent hotel and a very beautiful island with great people.

Have fun.

Room Tip: The suites are great.

Just spent a week at this holiday gem, we researched different destinations and hotels as it was my 40th birthday, and our friends 40th wedding anniversary and boy did it live up to expectations. The view when our taxis came over the top of the hill was just breathtaking, and it just got better and better. Check in was fast, friendly and efficient, with cool drinks provided while we waited, we then got transported to our room in a golf buggy (we had booked the bungalow rooms with sea view), which were away from the main hotel. Upon entering our room, we found it large, mordern, well equiped with a view to die for. The beds were very comfortable and was cleaned to an inch of its life every day, with clean sheets etc.
The main buffet restaurant was large and modern with some of the friendliest staff I have encountered anywhere. The food at every meal was fresh, plentiful and an amazing choice, champaigne for brekfast even. There was speciality nights and fresh grill stations, the greek night was fabulous even culminating with a firework display!!!!
The entertainment was quite low key, but sufficient. Never tried the Alacarte options as the main restaurant was quite sufficient.
What else can I say, the roof top bar with the hot tubs were amazing, as were the pool bar and the beach bar, drinks were a very high quality. All of the staff were at the hight of their profession.
On the day of my 40th, on returning to my room after breakfast, there was a bottle of chapaigne, fruit basket and a whole birthday cake!!!
The rest of the guest were incredibly polite, no need to fight for a sunbed even.
The beach was beautiful, as was the village itself, with a good selection a shops and bars, with some high quality taverners.
Having no children in the hotel was also a definate plus.
Everyone says how good the view is........ and my god it is!!!!!
Myself and my partner own a travel agent, and I will be recommending this hotel to all our clients.
We have travelled to many places, and outside of Dubai and the US, overall, this is the best hotel we have stayed in, especially in Europe, I cannot praise it high enough.
Don't tinker on the edge, just book it, you will not be disappointed!!!

My wife and I went stayed at the Aquis Agios Gordios Beach Hotel for the 4th time and were not disappointed. We were picked up by Stefan who runs the car hire at the hotel. When we arrived we were greeted by the very friendly Greek staff on reception who looked after us so well. I have to say that The Manager and his Greek staff were wonderful. I cannot praise them enough. The chef and his team provided food fit for the Royal Wedding and it was beautifully presented. All the waiting staff were helpful and kind. The room was cleaned every day and was a pleasure to stay in.
I feel it only fair that the Entertainment staff from SensiMar get a mention. They tried very hard to look after everyone.
On an other side, I have to feel sorry for 1) the poor person who complained to reception that "the sea was too noisy" and 2) the chap who complained that the Eurovision Song Contest was in German. Get a life!

Room Tip: Book early!

Review of Aquis Aghios Gordios Hotel
This was our fifth visit over a period of 18 years and we love the stunning location, friendliness and natural beauty of the place. The hotel is now adults only, all-inclusive (previously Thomson Gold) The emphasis is laid-back relaxation.
Set in a steep hillside, there are five main buildings plus clusters of bungalow/suites (some of which are a 10 minute steep walk from main facilities.
Our standard sea-view room was on the top floor of one of the main blocks and had panoramic sea views from its very private balcony. The room was very well-equipped, with full bathroom, fridge, TV/DVD, ‘phone, hairdryer, tea-making & digital safe (chargeable). It was all kept scrupulously clean.
The main buffet restaurant offered a broad selection of good quality food at breakfast, lunch & dinner, with waiter-service drinks. (you can help yourself to wine & beer if it’s not coming fast enough, but we had no problem – the staff are attentive) There is an a la carte and Sushi bar, but both are now chargeable (previously one complimentary visit per week – possibly about to be reinstated)
The pool is modestly sized, but an extended decking area provides sunbathing space and there is also a roof terrace with its own bar. The pool bar provides the main focus during the day and remains open until 12.00pm. The beautiful sandy beach has its own bar, covered by the all-inc, but its sunbeds are chargeable. The main lobby bar is the evening focus, with some music/simple entertainment most evenings and a lovely covered verandah where you can watch the spectacular sunsets. The more popular shows highlighted a shortage of seating.
An animation team offer an ambitious programme on paper, but we found it poorly organized and lacking any “spark”. A group of us borrowed the equipment and organized ourselves. The area offers good, albeit challenging, walks.
The village of Aghios Gordios has lots of bars, restaurants and small shops and can by reached via the beach or the steep access road. A bus runs three times daily to Corfu town.
The staff, many of whom have been there since our first visit, (and remembered us) are among the best we have experienced anywhere, friendly and efficient

Came here for a total switch off from our everyday working lives and this hotel served up relaxing in a major way.
The staff couldn't be more helpful or friendly, working extremely hard and long hours. Everything that you could want is there when and if you want it.
The food is truly excellent every day at any time of the day.
This is not the place to come if you want to walk to sights and attractions - it is 'out of the way' which in itself is a major attraction to many.
Its just a very relaxing place to be for all ages.

Room Tip: All rooms have seaview and aircon. Enough said.

Had a lovely 10 days here. All the positives already mentioned the food-lots of it and good quality, most of the staff are charming, drinks A1 and the entertainment is ok-although hard to find a seat most evenings..a little bit like the pool, unless you were there super early-just after sunset and sunrise- you would struggle to get a lounger. Not the Germans this time but the Brits. The other option is to head to the beach where you won't believe it, but it's true, they charge you 7 Euros a day to lie on their beds. Not so all inclusive . Also the A La Carte meal was withdrawn while we were there, shouldn't have advertised it if it wasn't on. All in all had a lovely stay and met some lovely people but been to better Aquis hotels.
