This was our first trip to Corfu and we weren't disappointed either by the island or the hotel - both were stunning. We arrived late at night but we still received a great welcome, together with drinks and a snack as the restaurant was closed.
The management staff at this hotel are excellent - nothing is too much trouble for them. We needed to change our room on the first day and this was dealt with very efficiently and without any fuss with the help of the ever-smiling porter.
The modern rooms are excellent, having been recently re-fitted. All the fixtures and fttings are as new and the rooms are very well appointed and very comfortable - air conditioning, tea & coffee making facilities, a well-fitted bathroom and a fridge are all included. The rooms were serviced every day so, like the rest of the hotel, were kept immaculately clean throughout our stay (Tip: the room maids do not re-fill the tea, coffee or milk in the rooms however you can pick these up from the drinks area of the restaurant every morning to take back to your room).
The views from the veranda of the main lounge, the restaurant windows and the room balcony were stunning - we had perfect weather so the sunsets were perfect !!
We travelled independently and booked on the all-inclusive basis. The food was excellent with plenty of choice and fresh options each day and the chef was always available at dinner with a couple of specials. The drinks were generous - the beer, gin & tonics and wine with dinner (both white and red) were very good indeed. The restaurant and bar staff were very efficient, very friendly and always eager to please which always made dining and relaxing in the bars very enjoyable.
The hotel is set on a hill-side so we were always going either up or down. Not a place therefore for those with mobility problems but the location and geography of the area make for a fantastic panorama. It is only a short stroll along the beach boardwalk to the village of Agios Gordios and this makes for a lovely morning or evening walk. In previous years the sunbeds and parsols on the hotel beach had to be hired each day but these are now free. There was never a shortage of sunbeds while we were there (12 days in May) and the vast majority respected the request not to reserve sunbeds with towels.
Agios Gordios is a quiet resort so is not geared for those who are seeking nightlife. This was ideal for us as we wanted a quiet location for relaxation. The fact that the hotel is adults-only was also an attractive feature.
The island is worth exploring and the hotel is an ideal base for exploration being centrally located on the west coast. We hired a car from Top Cars (www.topcars.gr) who gave great service at a very good rate.
We can thoroughly recommend this hotel and wished we had booked for longer - we will definitely be going back - Aquis have got it right - it's a gem !!
