“Another superb holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2014 via mobile

First morning back and I'm already missing the views from our room. I'll get my gripes out of the way first after reading some of the negative reviews I can only assume that we must have been at a different hotel, yes there are steps and lots of them seen as the hotel is perched on the side of a rock. But if you read all the previous reviews you would have known this they wont suddenly disappear! If you don't like steps or are elderly or infirm then yes they could be a problem. Likewise if you try and eat your own bodyweight in food everday like some of the guests then again the steps may pose a problem.
Comments on the staff being miserable are again way off you could not meet more friendly hospitable people, all it takes is basic human skills, please and thank you, get you a long way. But unfortunately some of the guest's we encountered fell way behind this level of intelligence, simply barking demands at the waiters may possibly not get the happy smile one would expect.
We found all the staff extremely helpfull and pleasant considering that they seem to work 14 hours a day.
This was our second visit to the hotel and found everything to be clean and tidy yes there is some rubbish on the beach and quite a lot of seaweed but this is hardly the hotel's fault all the hotel grounds are kept extremely clean and tidy.
Pleanty of choice in the restaurant for all tastes, its not P & O Cruise standard but its not P & O prices considering all the different nationalities that the hotel is catering for the food is excellent.
Overall a fantastic place to chill out and unwind. Ignore the negative comments just have a open mind and you will have a fantastic holiday.

We have just returned from this great hotel. This is the second time we have stayed at the Aquis Agios Gordios for very good reason and will return again. The location is superb with gorgeous views from all rooms. The hotel is spotless and the the linen is changed every other day. The food is generally of good quality and with plenty of choice. As is always the case the staff can make or break a holiday, the staff here are efficient and courteous ensuring that the guests have all they need. The additional bonus is that the same staff were there as our last visit two years ago and they amazingly recognised us the moment we arrived. It is true that some we met as far back as 1986 at another hotel, Nikos in the restaurant and Michael in the Lobby Bar, good to see them again. As to value for money, it is unbeatable. The hotel is thoroughly recommended. As already stated in other reviews, it is not good for those with mobility problems.

Firstly, if you have read my previous review of this hotel then I'll start with my gripe first... The entertainment has dumbed down so much since our last visit, that the now "Animation Team" (a team of three young people who would be more at home in an 18-30 resort) tried to entertain with VERY juvenile antics, to a high percentage of over 50's. When they weren't "performing" their childish games or trying to sing, a laptop was left blaring out music that only an avid Radio 1 listener would probably appreciate; the decibel rate to the rear of the room topped 80! Real entertainers and a stage area need to be brought back ASAP.

To anyone thinking of spending a holiday at this hotel it has lots of steps and situated on a steep hill side. If you like walking then it will be up and down hill - you have been warned.

Wasps, what wasps? Where have all the wasps gone???

It has been three years since our last trip here and I have rated this hotel highly in the past. We have had many visits to this hotel for over 14 years. Again, we went All Inclusive and enjoyed the accommodating range of food available for all tastes and the coffee is always spot on. Local beers and spirits are perfectly Ok, but take my tip and ask for spirits in a separate glass from the mixer as I like to add the mixer to my own taste.

The staff are always friendly and welcomed us back again open armed. The hotel is kept very clean and every effort is made to make your holiday enjoyable. The beach bar is just perfect for escaping from the heat of the sun whilst looking out to the rippling azure water.

The beach was unfortunately still under a spring tide and awash with seaweed but some parts were still accessible for sun loungers.

On previous visits our bed had been far too firm but I emailed well in advance to ask for something to be done before our arrival; as per my request the mattress had a soft foam topper placed on it and was very comfortable.

Nothing wrong with this hotel and it gets the thumbs up again from me!

Room Tip: If you don't smoke then ask for room on a lower floor. If you are on higher floor and there ar...

Were at the Aquis for 7 days from 29th April, which was before the official opening date of May 1st. The first couple of days were obviously very quiet, but from May 1st it filled up really rapidly and it was quite apparent that the hotel was very short staffed, everyone was completely run off their feet! But, they kept smiling, were as efficient as they possibly could be and it didn't cause us any problems at all. Ok, you wait a little longer but so what?
The hotel and the room were very clean, the outside spaces were lovely, especially the roof terrace and the beach bar.
We had a few gripes, (but they didn't spoil our holiday); we would have liked the beach bar to be open at night and the roof terrace bar to be open during the day. We would have appreciated some better cuts of meat and fish in the restaurant, and not such a prolific use of leftover vegetables served up as salads, purees etc. The beach was very untidy, and given that the hotel was by far the largest one in the village, it would have been a good idea if they could have sent some staff down to the beach to clear it up before they opened, or employed some local labour to do so.
Apart from those few gripes, we had a great, relaxing time, and would recommend the hotel itself to anyone who was fairly fit, as the geography of the area is very hilly and there are loads of steps in the hotel and grounds.
Although absolutely nothing to do with the hotel whatsoever, a little warning about an attraction in Corfu Town - the Kalypso glass bottomed boat trip is horrific; they pack you in like sardines, then you go out in the bay and watch animal cruelty in action. Please stay away, they are making around £2000 euros a day by our reckoning and they should be banned from doing what they are doing.

Room Tip: Have a seaview room in the main building - don't go for a bungalow

Just come back from a 7 day stay at this delightful hotel with my husband. We are both in our mid 50's and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here. We are both well travelled. The hotel room was immaculate, cleaned daily and fresh towels too. Nothing was a problem, we had noisy neighbours and were offered another room in the hotel immediately. There was something on the menu for everyone, from healthy breakfasts if you were counting calories to cooked breakfast. Bread was on the menu each meal time which was freshly baked and gorgeous. Wine was lovely and my husband enjoyed the beer. If you want a relaxing holiday good food in a friendly clean environment this will tick all the boxes. I would definitely recommend it, ignore the silly negatives, some people can never be pleased. We mixed with many guests and nobody complained about anything. The bungalows would not be my first choice as I like to wear heels in the evening. The views are truly magnificent from many parts of the hotel and the sunset is gorgeous. I have arthritis in my knees and found the steps leading down to the beach tunnel acceptable as they are not steep and quite gradual.
One last thing the beach could be tidied up, however I am not sure if that is the responsibility of the hotel. The animation team did not come across as qualified although lovely young people who were extremely friendly, maybe background music or a pianist for an hour or so in the evening on the beautiful piano, as this is an adult only hotel.

Hugely impressed by this well-run and fabulous hotel.
Wonderfully greeted by the guest relations manager Alexandras and her lovely receptionists Irena, Elena and Bettina with Champagne on arrive ... they were so welcoming and helpful throughout the staff. And the brilliant Thanos on reception was also a joy to deal with during the holiday - the receptionists were excellent.
Spectacular views that looked more like being in Hawai'i or Brazil than Corfu made this break even better than expected. Sunsets in the evenings from the lobby balcony or bars were something special.
Location is perfect, the 67 steps down to the Beach Bar and seafront were not steep and were possibly the only exercise many guests in the main building had.
The bungalows are away from the main building and requires a short walk up a fairly steep hill to reach if you are at the end. But Kostas would pick us up in the hotel buggy to save extra walking. These bungalows are set in gardens that are in need of tidying up, my only criticism. If you don't fancy walking too much after meals then opt for the main hotel building - every guest my teenage son and I spoke to loved their room in the main building and showed us the fantastic views from their room of the beautiful bay.
If you are in the main building there are three sets of rooms - would avoid overlooking the Pool Bar if you want a bit of peace and quiet.
Bar staff were exceptional, especially the two gents each named Michael (one rides a Harley-Davidson to work) who work extremely hard and always with a huge smile on their respective faces - a real joy to know and deal with. Dimitri is also excellent down on the Beach Bar, but be aware that the drinks only at the Pool Bar could well be syrup instead of the advertised alcohol they claim on the all inclusive menu (apricot liquor, coconut rum and coffee liquor were actually non-alcoholic syrups during my stay!)
Food was generally very good, although at breakfast expect the German meat of Speck to be served up and undercooked rather than bacon ... and kiwi fruit was frozen so was inedible at breakfast then soggy at lunchtime! And plastic cups were offered to guests for the fruit juice - I used to pick up a proper glass as plastic cups for breakfast at such a lovely hotel was a strange decision. Overall breakfast was a four out of five as plenty of variety and some lovely pastries, Greek dishes etc.
Despite the occasional undercooked piece of fish (raw) and chicken at lunchtime these meals were excellent, although I would urge you to choose freshly cooked meat from the industrious Dimitris in the show cooking corner - he always came up trumps with meat and fish loving cooked by such a young man.
The evening meals were even better than lunches, which were hard to beat. The sheer variety and taste of food was spot on to keep all the guests happy. My only minor gripe is that there were so many puddings with nuts, traditional Greek dishes, that I couldn't try because of my severe nut allergy. Yet there were easily enough choices that I can't complain because the restaurant was excellent. And Kiki at the creperie was friendly and efficient.
The beer at the hotel wasn't as good as other hotels I've visited in Greece, but a slice of lemon in the glass soon resolved that! Wine was apparently very good, especially the white wine.
Plenty of busy and friendly staff in the restaurant and throughout the hotel helped make this stay so very enjoyable. Surprisingly, there were just three people running the animation activities - great people but too few to generate enough interest from the hundreds of guests.
Entertainment was rubbish during the day as almost non-existent but in the evening was fun, especially the Greek Evening with dancing that then attracted most of the guests to join in.
The lobby is beautiful, and the heart of the hotel. Incredible views from the balcony, comfortable seats/sofas, waitress/waiter service for drinks - and there is a beautiful piano taking centre stage, had they had a pianist from around 7pm for an hour or so then the ambience would have been even more spectacular.
All the bar areas are brilliant - the Rooftop Bar has brilliant views and even two jacuzzis!
There is a Wellness Centre slightly hidden away, which offers a jacuzzi (10 euros per person an hour), a small yet well-equipped gym and a small sauna all run by the lovely India.
Took my 19-year-old son on this trip, who sent me a text once he was back at university and described the holiday as "perfect" - praise indeed from someone who has been around the globe to many of the world's best hotels, including the 'Beaches' chain (family version of 'Sandals')... and he wants to return there for his 21st birthday in mid-May 2015!
Thank you to the brilliant staff - Alexandras, India, Thanos, Kiki, the two barmen called Michael, Kostas, Irena, Elena and Bettina - for helping make this recent stay 'perfect' for my son and myself ... we will return.

Waited for ten years to visit this hotel after discovering it while on holiday with our then young daughter. One word, disappointed!
Hotel is tired and shabby in places. The staff struggle to show willing and with the exception of the reception staff, who were very helpful, the rest were a bit on the miserable side.
The food was average but the worst was the drinks, watered down beer and spirits that were weaker than orange juice! We asked for a bottle of water to put in the room fridge but was told that it would have to be paid for, not bad seeing that we were 'all inclusive'.
The all inclusive bar stopped at 11pm on the dot!
The 'animation' team, although very willing, left a lot to be desired. They are young and we hope they learn quickly. It was their first season and it showed.
The building had been painted recently but I think it must have been carried out by a team of 5 year olds.
The beach was strewn with litter and debris and after speaking with a couple who had visited back in October 2013, the same broken plastic chair was still in place. We thought it had just been washed up in a storm!
If you are slightly unfit or infirm then please do not book this hotel, the steps would prove too much, inside and outside the hotel.
Do not make the mistake we made, find another hotel. Corfu is a great place and there are a lot more better hotels.

Room Tip: Do not stay in one of the bungalows, they are not part of the hotel and are a bit of a trek up hill.

Dear Guest,

Our aim is to always offer our guests a great holiday experience and we are sorry you left disappointed by recent holiday experience at our hotel. A high number of rooms has been renovated this winter at the Aquis Agios Gordios Beach, resulting unfortunately to some unfinished details like the ones you experienced in your room, which have now all been identified and corrected. We are also sorry to read that the quality of the food and the entertainment didn’t meet your expectations, but you can imagine that trying to cater for such a vast number of clients from different nationalities is challenging. We thank you for your feedback, we always consider well-mannered criticism as an opportunity to improve our service standards.
