“FAB adult only retreat!”
Reviewed 4 May 2010

GETTING THERE & BACK
I took a taxi from the airport, a posh black Mercedes from the rank outside the terminal, there are a queue of them waiting, and felt quite safe as a single female, and it cost me 35 euros each way to the hotel which is 25 mins away via lots of twisty turny roads up and down hills, which i feel was a bit over priced. 6 hr delay coming back (thanks Monarch!?!) sitting at airport for hrs while snack bar staff smoked endless fags in the non smoking section hope they washed their hands before serving customers food again (great end to hols!), warning : diet coke and crisps from airport snack bar everest olympic catering, 6.60 euros - mega rip off, gave them back, went hungry for 6 hrs out of principle! Corfu is 2hrs ahead of UK time.
HOTEL
What a fab ADULT ONLY hotel! I would definitely come back and stay again and recommend to friends. A quality hotel well deserved of its 4/5 star rating. The small attention to details and genuine friendliness of the happy staff really make this hotel outstanding for the price. Recently refurbed to a modern standard, very clean and well maintained. All rooms and the restaurant face the bay overlooking the turquoise sea, amazing sunsets and scenic views. Cut into the cliff face means there are a few steps to some areas but not excessive, I am hardly fit yet I could easily cope.
ROOMS
Rooms have a ‘Travel Lodge’ feel with all the basics required for a pleasant stay including Free Wi-Fi access throughout the hotel with good signal strength, laptops available to rent or you can use their desktops in reception. In the room there is also a socket to plug in your laptop if its not wi-fi enabled. Flat screen tv plus a dvd player although the range of channels is a bit limited, mainly news channels and a film channel called True movies. I found the height of the chair under the dressing table a little too high to get my legs under so had to straddle the seat to use the desk. Also if your electrical appliance does not charge up in one socket , try it in others as many of us noted that not all the sockets will charge up equipment, so dont know if they have diff volts going to diff sockets – weird? I have to say my bed was rather hard and i did check to see if it had a mattress or solid wood, but it was prob an extra firm mattress which gave me back ache, but some would prefer it?. The bathroom has also been refurbed to a very modern standard but its a shame they used such dark tiles as it makes the small standard size bathroom seem even smaller. The other thing that was strange is that they have positioned the shower and tap in the centre of the bath which looks very trendy but is in such an awkward place should you be using the shower or bath. Dont forget to put your toilet paper in the bins and not down the loo!
FOOD & DRINK
I was on the all inclusive package, most meals are taken in the Androniki buffet style restaurant, and i have to say after reading some negative reviews, that the food selection and quality were very good, and I am an extremely fussy vegan vegetarian and do not expect anything other than chips when going abroad, but here they had a wonderful selection of fresh salads, fruits, breads, puds, veg, bread and meat and fish for the carnivores! Chefs all wore disposable gloves and constantly refreshed trays and took a pride in the display of food. There was even a salad chef a couple of nights to knock up the perfect salad. There is also a grill chef for meat cooked to order, and egg chef in the mornings. The waiting staff were very friendly and efficient, and hotel staff seemed genuinely happy in their jobs, and obviously took pride in their work and the hotel. Do try the Greek sweet pastries which look a bit like shredded wheat, they are scrummy! Breakfast was 07:00 to 10:00, Lunch 12:30 to 15:30, Afternoon tea by the pool with sandwiches & cakes 16:00 to 18:00, then dinner from 18:30 to 21:30 so you could get food all day long! Plus by the pool was self service ice cream, in 4 flavours. Drinks were all inclusive but there is a menu which clearly states that there were also some drinks available to buy, but were quite expensive. To be honest there was plenty to drink without the need to buy any, the wine and beer are lovely plus there are also 5 alcoholic cocktails, and 2 non alcoholic ones to enjoy. Sunday lunch we were given asti spumante at the restaurant door. Tea and coffee and water was also available. You could also have one meal at the Olive Tree a la carte restaurant if all inclusive but i did not bother as i was more than happy with the buffet.
ENTERTAINMENT
I arrived end of April but as i was leaving start of May the season started and so did the animation team playing quiet games by the pool, none of that in your face type of loud imposing stuff that the med is famous for thankfully! There was live music in the lounge in the evenings and during Sunday lunch time an acoustic trio played in the restaurant. Its all very subtle and not OTT just as you would expect from this high class hotel.
POOL
I usually swim every day but found the pool very painfully cold so i missed not being able to swim. Only a masochist could bear more than a quick dip! Sunbeds were solid wood and had cushions, very comfy and plenty of parasols, during the weekend there seemed to be an influx of extra foreign guests and there was almost sunbed wars, and high tensions in the restaurant finding a table. After the weekend it returned to a more relaxed atmosphere. There are also free towels from the pool bar from 10am using a card system. The pool is on a terrace which also overlooks the bay. There are some steep steps leading down onto the beach and the tunnel bar which also served drinks. I was not brave enough to get down there though after seeing a few people on crutches who had fallen.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends without hesitation, i found there was NOT a problem with wasps or flies or mossies at all like previously mentioned. Great value for money, very popular apparently fully booked already now until Sept! Will come again same time next year, only had one morning of rain but rest of the time temps were hot and sunny in the mid 20’s.

Although built in the side of a mountain and access to the villages or the beach, requires a bit of hard walking or lots of steps, this location is fantastic. The staff are the friendliest, most helpful people with always a smiling face. The standard of the food, bedrooms and hygiene in all the public areas, was excellent, although we initially found it difficult to not dispose of toilet paper in the usual way but hey this is still a quite primitive Greek Island in a lot of repects, which only adds to its beauty. There was every facility you would require in the Hotel on a holiday although we arrived just four days after re-opening for the season and the Village was closed but we watched it all come to life again and the re-start of the public bus into Corfu town. The Al a Carte restaurant which is located poolside, was a beautifully presented place to eat and the Chef and his team, served some of the best and varied food, which we got for free with the deal.

Just returned from a week at this hotel which was very relaxing and enjoyable. The locationof the hotel, overlooking the bay at Agios Gordios,is both a positive and a negative feature. The views over the bay from all the rooms and public areas are stunning and the evening sunsets are superb. Access to the hotel would be a problem for guests with mobility difficulties due to the number of steps and steep inclines. Access for coaches is something the management needs to address. An early evening excursion to Corfu Town was delayed for over an hour as the approach road was gridlocked and on our return we had to get off the coach and walk up the steep road ("cardiac road") to get back to the hotel.
Much money has been spent refurbishing the hotel and the rooms are spacious and well appointed. As we were there the week before the season started some of the public areas were still being prepared and not open. This meant that as the week went on and the hotel filled up the main lounge and bar area became very crowded but this should be better when all the facilities are open.
Staff at this hotel were superb in all areas and it would be unfair to single out any individual but, as in the last reviews, Anneta on reception does deserve a special thanks. The all inclusive package was excellent. Food was of a consistently high standard with great variety and the pastry chef is to be congratulated on his desserts. All meals in the main restaurant are buffet but an outside terrace enables you to eat away from the food and makes the dining experience more special. Staff are meticulous in the way the tables are laid and cleared with immculate white linen and gleaming glasses and cutlery. Wine is served by the carafe and again the restaurant staff could not have been better and always provided service with a smile. We dined in the A la Carte restaurant one evening (The Olive Tree) and found that of a high standard.
Overall a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday in a hotel where the management and staff are working hard to provide an excellent service at all times. We also had the good fortune to meet up with a wonderful set of guests who made the holiday for us.

I have just been to this hotel for a break with my sister. On arrival at Corfu airport, a 30euro taxi ride got us to the Hotel in about half an hour. We were greeted by friendly staff & there was a table of chilled juices & water in reception. I had been concerned from other reviews, about loads of steps, so emailed ahead to request a room near all facilities & with 2 beds. I received a reply within an hour, to say a room had been reserved with no steps. Our room was on floor 3 - all rooms have a sea view. The only steps that cannot be avoided is a flight of steps from floor 1 down to the pool area.( At least I didn't see any other way )The steps down to the beach are not dangerous as described in several reviews. They are concrete, wide, gradual &the edges are painted fluorescent yellow. There is a hand rail.
The pool area is spotless, we watched the maids hose & sweep it every morning. The hotel was fairly full while I was there & there seemed to be pleny of sun beds. We didn't use the beach at all, apart from to walk along. The beach bar & hotel sunbeds on the beach were not yet running.
The pool bar has a nice shaded seating area & afternoon tea is served there in the afternoon.
Now to the food;
Breakfast - yoghurt, fruit, cereals, bread, toast, fry up, cold cuts & cheese, omelettes & pancakes cooked to order.
Lunch & dinner - where do I begin.
There is chicken, beef , pork & lamb, different each time, roasted, casserole, grilled.
Even rabbit one day, & sausages another.A chef is always cooking something fresh.
Then there's always spaghetti with 2 sauces, 1 vegetarian. Then they have something greek like mousaka or pastichio, & usually a variation on greek meatballs. There is always hot veg, plenty of fresh salads, chips, rice, potatoes, various breads, olives, & of course a selection of beautifull deserts, fresh fruit & ice cream.
We could not fault the food, it was amazing. Vegetarians were very well catered for.
I can't comment on the A La Carte restaurants as they were closed until May. Having said that, we probably wouldn't have used them anyway, because we found so many nice things at the main restaurant.
The room we had was big, clean & had a beautiful bathroom, with toiletries & fluffy towels.
Drinks: I have to say I do think that possibly the drinks were watered down slightly. I don't normally drink at all, & had several tequila sunrises without any effect whatsoever. The drinks tasted right, even smelled right. Maybe it was just because they were local brands.
Having said that, there was a good selection & it was all readily available.
We had planned to have a treatment in the spa, but it wasn't open untill May. That was no problem to us.
Agios Gordios is a tiny village, pretty much undeveloped. There are a handful of Tavrnas along the beach & a few appartments & shops, but nothing like the busy tourist resorts. It was wonderfully quiet without children, reason enough for me to return!! Laying on my sunbed all I could hear was the sea, & the swallows that were nesting along the very top of the hotel, & eating any flies or insects that may have been around.
In the evening the entertainment centres around the lobby bar & lounge area. Each night they have someone either singing, or playing an organ & singing. We found the quality very good. There were a few " youngsters" who may well have been a bit bored, but generally most people seemed to be enjoying it & lots of people danced.
We found a good mix of ages, we were expecting " saga". ( we are 50ish! )However, there were young couples through to golden oldies, just no children, what joy.
I would most definately go back again, it really was great value for money & we were very well looked after. All the staff were friendly & helpfull.
Don't take any notice of anyones negative comments on tripadvisor, just go, & enjoy. I can't recommend it highly enough.Google Aquis Agios Gordios & see for yourself how lovely it is.

Completely agree with the last review. We were also part of the Volcanic Ash Survivors Group (!) and cannot fault the friendliness, efficiency and sheer sense of fun of the hotel staff. It is probably unfait to single anyone out, but Anetta and her colleagues in reception consistently went beyond the call of duty in sorting out a difficult situation for us. Saint Anetta became her nickname.
Special mention too to bar staff , and all the food service staff - it was like staying with really good friends.
Thank you too to the unpronounceable Icelandic volcano that left us stranded with some of the greatest people we've ever met - a real sense of group solidarity and some great evenings in the bar! When a coach left to take some off to the airport, we all trouped out to wave goodbye with a real sense of sadness.
And the hotel, the location? Beyond superlatives. Just totally perfect for a relaxing, chilled out break.
This was our first "all inclusive" and we were a little worried about "beer monsters" drinking themselves silly. Nothing was further from the truth - nobody abused the free dirinks and the beautiful sophisticated environment encouraged courtesy and friendliness.
Just pure magic. for the Bristol lemon pickers....
Yiammas!

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at this hotel, which turned into two weeks because of the volcanic ash incident. The hotel is really lovely, in a beatuiful location with wonderful sea views from every room. Generally, our room was very nice, with everything you would expect from a four star hotel. It was immaculately clean and fresh, The food was very good, and yes, after a while it does get a bit samey as someone mentioned on this site, but then that is all inclusive for you. There was always a wide range of choice and wonderful salads with all the trimmings. We were really surprised by the range of sweets, delicious!
The location is quite isolated unless you hire a car, we had a car for the fortnight and explored the island, which is beautiful. It is only about 15 minutes drive to corfu town, which is well worth a visit.
We really couldn't fault the hotel or its facilities and would definately return. However, the thing which really stood out at this hotel was the staff. The staff were excellent! Throughout the second week there were lots of misunderstandings and crossed wires between reps and airlines but the hotel staff were wonderful throughout, going out of their way to help. My partner summed up their attitude when he said they appeared to really care about the hotel and guests. They really took a pride in their work and the service they were offering. In particular we would like to thank Aneta on reception, who went out of her way to help the stranded passengers. Tassos in the restaurant for his excellent service and for trying to teach me greek! Sofia the barmaid/waitress who always had a smile despite rushing around constantly. Thank you for making our stay so special x
