“NOT HAPPY !!!!!”
Reviewed 14 July 2011

This hotel is definatley over rated and gives false information about the room types. I did believe i booked a double room for myself and my husband as we were celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary. It wasnt made clear about the room that was booked. It did state we would have a sceneic view (not a car park) also it stated a bath, which we never got, no hair dryer as stated or trouser press or iron facilities. On arriveing i quieried all with the receptionist and she told me that they were fully booked that night but may be able to swap us for our last night....but we never heard anything. On the first morning, this is when the manager was serving all with breakfast etc we was seen to quite quickly, but on our second morning we had to wait 40 mins for breakfast, and it was a good job that we knew how to assist ourself with cerial etc as we had no communication with the waitering staff until at least 15 minutes after being seated. Our room was a small pokey room. I have never stayed any where before and been so un happy with our stay. And as it was for ur anniversary we cant make up for that now. Another problem was that is stated we would not be charfged for the room untill arrival, but the day before the booking fee was taken out of my husbands account, thats why we couldnt leave the hotel as it had already been paid for, and at £100 pound a night it was a disgusting price for what we got. I wouldnt recommend anyone to stay here.

Room Tip: make sure you are aware if you book THE LODGE, as myself i didnt know this, it wasnt made clear in t...

Well, where can we start, on checkin - I asked them to conform that we had a room with a bath which we had requested when booking - the receptionist, said that we did not have a bath in the allocated room and passed me over to the general manger who said there was nothing on the booking form about a bath - until I pointed out the line that said 'A bath definitely required'!

He then offered us another 'Executive' room which had a nice bathroom, but was tiny with room to hardly stand beside the double bed and smelt of 'Shake and Vac'!

We complained again, and he then offered us a room in the main hotel, which was of a reasonable size and had a bath!

We went out to eat at the Bathampton Mill just along the river - which was fine.

On our return, the room was very stuffy and hot, until the sun had set, after which it cooled off somewhat.

After getting off to sleep, we were woken at about 4:30am to the sound of lorry doors banging and boxes being unloaded and raised voices!

Breakfast was disappointing with a poor choice of cereals, uninspiring toast and and mediocre cooked breakfast!

A few points about our bathroom - no grab handles to people out of the very small cramped bath - broken coat hook on back of door - very dim lighting - rather silly black sink that showed every soap mark - shower hose that was too short to use as a shower!

The outside steps had no white/fluorescent marking on the edges of the steps and were made of cheap decking!

The lodge rooms at the back of the car park - one of which we had originally booked and was described as a superior room, was clearly anything but as they looked like portacabins and were tiny!

We were woken at about 5 am the next morning by some people fitting ribbons to a wedding car!

Overall, the location is very nice, the hotel needs to improve its standards by a long way to justify the £100+ per night that they are charging!

Unless this happens, I would stay away from this hotel!!!

The welcome we received at reception was a little standoffish, the main man was on the phone refunding some money to someone. The flowers that I paid £45 for had arrived for my wife on our 25th wedding anniversary and were well worth the money, however, despite a discussion about the length of our marriage with the receptionist, the card read HAPPY BIRTHDAY. The room looked good (123) and the view from the window was excellent. The facilities are good but the shower will try to drill holes in you and there is no way to reduce the pressure, do not get into the jacuzzi unless you are a gymnast as it is deep and there are no handles anywhere to help you get out. The restaurant food was ok and reasonably priced, the staff are great, lovely obliging people. During the first night the noise, of what I am told is the extractor of the freezer rooms next door, droned on all night, we hoped it might stop, it did not. The breakfast was virtually cold despite "baring [sic] with them" whilst they freshly cooked it. Next morning we asked if noise could be turned off at all and were assured that it would be attended to. It was not, the next night I went to reception where the main man was on the phone again. He promised to sort it, then offered us another room, 106, even better view, same price, all we had to do was move, we were fresh from the bar at 11pm but we packed and went to room 106 however opening the door of the room woke the people who were already sleeping in there, major embarrassment. Next morning we packed and checked out a day early. They refunded our money in part.
With a few small additions and a few small removals this could be a nice place.

1) Somewhere to put the soap in the shower,
2) Move that extractor !!!!!!!
3) A biscuit with the tea making facilities.
4) A way of adjusting the shower.
5) Some assistance handles in the jacuzzi.
6) Someone on reception who really cares and has up to date information about occupancy.

Room Tip: If you are deaf then room 123 may be ok

We stayed at the Old Mill (our 13th) for a 3 night break .We are big fans of this Hotel and it's wonderfull location on the River Avon and walk into Bath each morning along the canal towpath after breakfast. As expected the food was superb. The breakfast bar offers the normal compliment of juices, cereals, with fresh and dried fruits. In addition there is a varied choice of cooked food which is promptly dispatched to the table piping hot with coffee tea and toast all of which are speedily replenished when requested. Our evening meals were taken in the hotel; the restaurant now specialises in Italian food and which is of excellent quality and value. Service was once again excellent and delivered with aplomb and wit by the General Manager Garry who's humour could soften all but the hardest of hearts. The rooms in the hotel which have been fully modernised to boutique standards are well appointed and vary in size according to price. We stayed in room 123 which overlooks the river Avon and surrounding countryside and is equiped with a shower and wirlpool bath. Space in a couple of the lodge rooms is at a premium but the standard of decor and finish is excelent throughout. The hotel is often host to weddings especially at weekends which can make for entertaining voyeurism in the evening. The hardworking staff are very aproachable and always willing to go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable. Our stay at the Old Mill was all we expected and indeed we are already planning our next visit in the autumn.

We had a family celebration and booked four rooms for two nights. All the rooms were nicely furnished and the bathrooms were all very clean and modern. The staff were extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for you. Its a small hotel which is able to give personal service. The breakfast was excellent with the dinning room over looking the river.

We enjoyed getting to Bath by ferry boat to avoid the traffic. There is a good local pub in walking distance for a change of dinning.

Room Tip: Not good if you have a mobility problem as no lift

Breakfast - The waiter was very strange and stand off ish. Breakfast had a hair in it and the waiter came back 5 minutes later and said it couldn't have been the chef as he is bald so it must have come in the frozen mushrooms!

Room - we were in the lodge which was awful! The chair of the stool was broken, very dated, generally unclean and was in desperate need of a makeover. The two single beds were not even affixed together properly. Outside of the room was like a junk yard!

Price - we paid £120 which is twice what we would normally pay but wanted a good night away. Room quality warranted £60 max!

The only positive was that the receptionist who checked us in was welcoming and friendly and without asking was happy to offer information about travel in and around bath etc.

I would never consider going there again. If you do decide to try it, be sure to book direct with the hotel through their website as the cost is cheaper than by way of last minute websites and b&b.com etc.

We had a lovely room overlooking the Avon. We were in the main hotel, not sure about rooms in the annex. The Italian menu in the restaurant is excellent-quite tasty, quick service. Breakfast was good as well. Easy walk to a couple of pubs, beautiful walk along Kennet and Avon Canal.
