“Book with caution !!”
Reviewed 16 October 2011

Just returned from an overnight stay here. We were not in the main hotel, but the 'lodge' aka butlins chalet style. Views of cement mixer, general tatt and car park. Staff smoking area complete with tatty arm chairs next to us. bathroom nicely done, small but modern....except shower didn't work even following their instructions. Twin beds pushed together with a sheet and itchy blanket no duvet. We paid £ 105 for this priviledge including breakfast, which we didn't bother staying to find out how it was. we were so let down by our expectations from website to the reality of our stay. Last person commented that some people find fault with anything only complain about here.I have never complained about a hotel before and perhaps others have been lucky enough to get allocated a nice room? However looking at the complaints on here, its just that luck. Err on the side of caution is my advice.

Never written a review before about anything, but here goes. Read the reviews about the hotel and went with some trepidation, some loathed it some liked it. We stayed there for 4 nights and to be honest apart from slight problem with a shower first night was immediately moved to room 114, an excellent room with small balcony overlooking the river ,weir, gardens and magnificent water wheel,(although it did have slightly annoying squeak at times)
as old things do now and then. The room very clean and functional, bathroom the same. The restaurant overlooking the river served great selection of Italian dishes, the waitresses very polite friendly and competent, nothing appeared to be too much trouble. Car parking a bit tight but everyone managed to find a space. I must say the location was outstanding, and value for money for our stay, well you have to go there to appreciate it. If you go and suggest you do for a break because Bath has some endearing features, you have to meet the manager, Gary, and ask him about his "A.F.D" routine !!
To sum up, nice place, great location, good service and food and don't believe the critical reviews about the place because the people who wrote them are the sort who would find fault in anything.

Room Tip: 1st floor overlooking the river (114/112), or ground floor overlooking river with wooden platform ou...

The “Old Mill Hotel” is in a beautiful location with excellent accommodation, restaurant and bar providing a first class experience for any weary travellers. I really enjoyed my time at the hotel where the staff provided me with beautiful food, an excellent array of wines and accurate and reliable information for my travels around Bath. Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable experience, I will definitely be returning in the future.

We stayed here for 2 nights and the only enjoyment was had when we were not on the property at all. We had a large sedan and found the carpark so horrendous to navigate we didn't touch the car again until we left. Reception staff were polite but not friendly. As we were doing 12 weeks touring we had some larger luggage items and they were difficult to navigate the many stair levels in the corridors. I fact we weren't even told about the stairs, just opened the door to go to the room and nearly fell down the corridor steps, luggage and all!

Our room was ok as long as you didn't want a shower. There was some instruction upon arrival about turning one tap whilst turning something else and doing the hokey pokey with your foot on the bath or some such puzzle but there's nothing in the room to help you when you can't figure it out. Our room faced onto the carpark and the daily 6am wake up call as the staff chatted and moved bins around in front of the large window was most unwelcome. Breakfast was ordinary with empty plates left on vacant tables. The first morning we weren't even asked if we wanted anything cooked despite being there 25 minutes, I thought I'd been mistaken about our entitlement to it. We didn't miss out on our second morning but it was very underwhelming.

The location is beautiful however there is a narrow bridge there that is a tollway and it's a very tight squeeze if you drive a larger car. We walked along the canal into Bath several times whilst here. It took about 40mins and it's an absolutely beautiful walk. Seeing Bath rise up the hill was lovely, as I said, being outside was the best part of our time here. I find I can't recommend this hotel for anytravel purpose.

Room Tip: There are alot of stairs in the hotel so be careful if you have excess luggage or mobility issues.

We stayed in the hotel for one night. We were in the annexe which, whilst the room was small had been recently re done and the shower room was brand new so very clean. It was quiet and we slept well.

The main thing at this hotel is the location and the view. Right on the river side, an interesting water wheel and a pleasant garden to sit in by the river. The river taxi runs in the summer months freqently into Bath and is a very relaxing 30 mins to get to/from Bath city.

I see some reviews criticise the parking. We did not have any problems and in fact I have had much trickier parking in most city centre hotels.

Breakfast was fine and the staff friendly. We will stay there again.

Lovely location by the river, nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of Bath,
Glad we choose this hotel and experienced the wonderful boat trip into Bath, Thermae Bath Spa is a must and of course The Roman Baths.

Hotel....we arrived late afternoon and were staying in the Lodges.....I was not very happy with the small room, so I asked if we could change to stay in the hotel itself. A pleasent young lady on reception showed us a room near to the dining room......this room was so much nicer, and bigger. Nice modern bathroom and was very clean. Only thing was the road outside is a toll bridge so plenty of traffic action !!!!!
Nice breakfast.......yes would return but would ask for a high floor overlooking the river,,,,

Room Tip: would ask for top floor overlooking river

On arrival the receptionist was very attentive, helped us with our luggage and even moved her car so we could park close by. Our room was comfortable, with the usual facilities, but recently refurbished with a good shower; we even had a balcony, and it was quiet at night - we slept well. We dined in the restaurant the first night and it was average with an unchallenging Italian menu. We ate at the Bathhampton Mill just across the bridge thereafter - great place. Breakfasts were also average and whilst staff were attentive there were capacity problems at times. The lounge was comfortable. Parking was interesting but we never failed to get a space and mostly left the car and used the bus and water ferry to access Bath, and walked to other local hostelries without strain. However parking is in reality not easy because of the very narrow access, and not for the faint hearted. The riverside position is very attractive, and how often do you get to eat breakfast, even an average breakfast whilst looking out over a river in the early sun and watch a kingfisher catching and eating his breakfast. We witnessed the failed shower flood - twice, but it seemed to get fixed quickly, and we weren't inconvenienced.
Overall we found the hotel a mass of contradictions; it could be great. As it is its quite quirky, but on balance the positives outweigh the negatives, and we considered it value for money and would return.

Room Tip: Stay in main hotel
