“Disappointing!!!”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

After reading the comments on TripAdvisor, was a little concerned so phoned the hotel to be told by the receptionist that the Lodge we would be staying in had been renovated and not to worry about the reviews...On arrival, greeted warmly by the receptionist. However, cannot put into words how "shocked" we were by our room!!!....To say we couldn't "swing a cat", would be an understatement!! The so called "Lodge" can only be described as a porta cabin!! Having said that, the room was very clean and the bathroom very modern, with a good shower! We booked in on a B&B basis and I am sorry to say that our first morning's breakfast was definitely under par!! So the the next morning, I opted for kippers which arrived at the table so "shrivelled" and over cooked they didn't actually look like anything from the fish family! Thoroughly disappointing food!!

The Old Mill is in a beautiful setting, overlooking the River Avon but if I had known we would be paying £220 for the privilege of a "porta cabin room", we would definitely have given this hotel a miss!!

Room Tip: Extremely small rooms, you couldn't swing a cat in!!

Mixed feedback for the old mill hotel. Primarily chose the hotel for the riverside setting in a quiet village 3 miles outside Bath, plus the river taxi from the village into Bath city centre. Didn't disappoint on this front. Hotel is adjacent to river Avon and views from hotel restauraunt across countryside are stunning. River taxi runs regularly from just across the bridge and takes 30 min to Bath city centre. Food served in the hotel restaurant was also excellent. Carvery on Saturday evening and full English both mornings were delicious.

We had two main criticisms of our stay at the hotel, both relating to our room. Firstly the bathroom had a strong smell of drains which we couldn't smell if the bathroom door was kept shut, but was almost unbearable when in the bathroom. Secondly, our double bed folded up into the wall! The bed was small, mattress thin and uncomfortable, and the bed had a large gap to the wall.

Overall, had a great weekend in Bath, the highlight undoubtly being the 'bizarre Bath' comedy walk round the town at 8pm on Easter Sunday. Would strongly recommend!

After a four hour drive, we arrived at 1.20pm and went to the reception. We were told, very abruptly by the man at the desk "You are too early, you can't have the room until at least 2 o'clock"..and then he turned away!! I know we were a bit early for check-in, but I would have expected a little more friendliness and maybe a suggestion that we have a coffee or something in the bar while we waited?? We went into the bar, where the same man served us a drink without uttering a single word, except to ask for the money....he made us feel so unwelcome and uncomfortable.
When we finally checked in, we were told we were in 'the lodge' which turned out to be a block of ugly chalets in the car park. Inside, we found that the bathroom and bedroom were almost of equal size...very small with hardly any space to walk around the bed and with our luggage in the room too, just made it feel too claustrophobic...so glad we only booked a one night stay!!

We booked this through booking.com. This was not my first choice but my brother accidentally booked nonrefundable rooms, so we had to take it. It takes around GBP 10-12 to get to this hotel from the Bath Spa station. But I guess it takes its charm precisely from its location.

I liked many things. The rooms were clean and spacious. While the outside are old yet elegant, the amenities are modern and functional. Breakfast was plentiful and freshly cooked. And the scenery is just unbeatable!

Some minor things I didn't like include the lack of transport into Bath City Centre. We had to call a cab every single time because we didn't want to catch bus that only comes every 20 minutes. Second, the staff could be more accommodating. While one or two are always smiling and are very professional, some are sort of young and lacking in service experience. Well, maybe they'll learn in time.

Lastly, on our second night, I was unpleasantly shocked when some other hotel guests were able to enter our locked room when I was nearly asleep! They profusely apologized upon realizing their mistake and quickly left. But how in the world were they able to have a keycard that opens our door??

Overall, we still had a good time and good night's sleep every night.

We've just had lunch here and both decided to have the carvery for our main. For starters one of us had the mushrooms and the other had soup of the day. Good portions, well cooked and served with a smile. To finish I had the cheese board. Cheese was bland but the chutney was spicy and came with biscuits, celery and grapes. There had been a hold up with two of the three meats offered at the carvery but as we were in no hurry the 20 minutes passed pleasantly enough looking out to the river. The best bit was I noticed the 2-4-1 board outside and mentioned it to the waiter who had 'a word with my manager' so we dined for half price without a voucher which I presumed was normally required. Two three course lunches four soft drinks all for £19.45. We'll go again - must look for the voucher next time!!

Room Tip: Didn't stay as we a we locals.

First, few people travel with 11 teenaged school girls and an over-sized coach. But The Old Mill Hotel accommodated us happily. The lovely location right near the waterfall, the easy access to the canal path all the way in to Bath and the charming water boat taxi all provided added interest. Our host gave us lots of good ideas for ways to get in to Bath and was most accommodating.

When he noticed after our first breakfast that American teenagers don't know what to do with "full English" breakfasts, he cheerfully tailored the next breakfast to our taste, taking out the tomatoes and bacon but keeping in whatever the girls would actually eat. We were pleased not to be begging one another to help us finish our plates.

When a member of our group had her 18th birthday, the hotel sent up a lovely surprise birthday cake for the celebration and then sent us home with a plate and plastic wrap the next day for snacking on the bus.

Our rooms were comfortable, clean and quiet. The hot water was plentiful once we figured out how to turn the shower tap on all the way, and we were altogether pleased with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

If I have a chance to return to England with my husband, we would look forward to a repeat visit.

Room Tip: I so loved the view of the waterfall and river that I would ask for a room facing that way.

We stayed in this Hotel the weekend of the Bath 10K. The location is out standing, right by the Toll bridge on the river, with lots of local country pubs near by . That was the only thing that for us was outstanding
We booked online 3 months before and rang twice the week before to make sure everything was in order. We arrived at 4pm and it was clear they had no idea we were coming and our room was not ready. The room was clean but looked average and quiet small for the price. If you want to use WI FI then you will need a big wallet! The hotel also had a Smokey odder about it.
This is a nice hotel, but for the price it should be better. (This is a tourist trap)

Room Tip: Ask to over look the river
