We booked a romantic night in a cosy hotel but when we arrived we were put into the "Lodge" a hideous 70s prefab motel knocked up in the car park. The rooms were tiny and in a terrible state of repair. The bath room was even smaller and had no windows so was full of mould.
If I had known what I was buying I would have chosen a motel as for half the price I would have got at least the same room but it would have been clean.
The car parking was free but as they had built this lodge in the middle of it there was no room to park our car.
Friendly staff and a nice breakfast, if you can be sure you are in the Hotel and not the Lodge it may be better.

We choose this hotel due to the recommendation and fantastic write up on the visit Bath web page.
We paid £105 per night to be kept awake with a faulty kitchen extractor on the roof of our room, as there was a wedding the first night the mechanical groanings of a failing unit continued grinding away until 4.30am until the room next door gave up and complained. We too complained the next morning and were told the equiptment would be turned off at 10 -10.30 the following evening. Alas the general manager arrived with friends and wanted steak cooked to the kitchen would re-open and had no idea what time they would turn this racquet off. I spoke to the duty manager who appolgised and said we could change rooms (at 11.00pm in the evening) or have a refund for that evening if we went home .We sat awake that night waiting for morning and our grand refund was £20 .The general manager met us at breakfast and was wonderfully nice and promised large compensation for such poor service, this information did not make to reception or the bill. The tv did not work, room was of shoddy decor, very outdated. Which was a shame due to the stunning location.
I was left with the impression the happyness of the staff came last, based on the large queue waiting to complain when we left after 2 sleepless nights.
This could be a super hotel due to the stunning location only a 45 minute walk to Bath along the canal.

I booked a two night stay at this hotel as a surprise birthday treat for my wife as she has been wanting to visit Bath and the new Therma spa for some time, after I had made the booking i did check the reviews and to be quite honest I was a bit worried so I telephoned the hotel to express my concern, I had booked a room in the lodge part of the hotel and when i telephone it was explained to me that the lodge rooms are quite a bit smaller and that the ensuite shower/wc was quite a bit smaller than that of the main hotel, the receptionist was not only polite but was honest. I was given the opportunity to up-grade and given the fact that it was a special occassion decided to do so. On arriving despite taking a slight detour and going over the Toll bridge (paying my 60p , only to have to turn around pay yet another 60p) don't make the same mistake as i did.We were greeted by a warm friendly receptionist who explained everything to us, from times of restaurant opening and closing, to ways of getting into Bath , she was very helpful and a welcome smile after a tiring journey , we went up to our room and yes it was a bit dated but no way as dated as some of the hotels i have stayed in,(it wasn't a plastic, same every room Travel Lodge) but the room was clean and tidy with plenty of tea and coffee.
We had booked a table for dinner as neither of us wanted to go out in the rain and we are both glad that we did dine at the hotel, the food and service was as good as any 5* hotel the only thing different was the price, in fact the food was that good we dined in on both nights, the breakfasts were equally as good.
All in all the hotel is Great Value for money, Really friendly and helpful staff and what made it for us was that a member of management wished my wife happy birthday gave her a flower and was there on sunday morning when we checked out.
Having said all this I did ask if i could look at a lodge room and yes we are glad that we up-graded but there was nothing wrong with the lodge only that there was no views and they are considerably smaller
So if any one is reading this and has read the bad reviews then do the same as i did PHONE THE HOTEL

good points- pretty setting, friendly reception staff, free car parking, good breakfast.

bad points- where to start?! minging rooms, looks like it hasn't been decorated since 70's. Bad location if you're looking to be in Bath town, as this is in a place called Bath Easton, about 30mins outside of city. didn't eat dinner in restaurant so couldn't comment on that. awful hygene, dirty showers and peeling wallpaper, just gross. Lodge looked even worst!!
DON'T DO IT!!!!

The shower unit, apart from being the smallest I had ever seen, housed an abundance of black mould which was also present on some of the ceiling in the ensuite, the shower head fixture was broken on arrival and in need of a good dose of bleach!
The wooden toilet seat was split in two places. There was also some black mould on the patio door frame in the bedroom. This hotel is tired, overpriced, and obviously relying too much on it's riverside location. The tollbridge road was a constant stream of traffic.

When booking this hotel, along with my husband and a friend, we requested non feather pillows as I was Asthmatic. On arriving the room smelled dank and musty so we opened the windows thinking it was due to being shut up. We found the pillows to be feather and asked for them to be changed, which caused a problem as they had to take from other beds. We went out and returned late. On going to bed we discovered the disgusting smell was coming from the pillows, bedspread and headboard, all which smelled like a Homeless Refuge on a very bad night. As it was late we used a blanket from the car and our coats as pillows. The next morning we advised them of the problem along with the fact that our friend's shower had black mould all over, and the connection was broken. We gave them that day to put things right. Whilst out we purchased four pillows as we had not been impressed by the Manager's attitude which seemed to be of treating it all as a joke. On returning my friend's shower was just as dirty, the connection had been connected again, but the mould remained. The Manager informed us he had cleaned it himself!! Our bedspread had been changed, the pillows also, but they had replaced them with equally smelling feather pillows, and the headboard was still disgusting!! That night we put a towel over the headboard, used our own pillows and looked forward to leaving. The Manager had promised he would "adjust" our bill, but on checking out he had done nothing. Thinking cultural and language differences may be the reason for his not appreciating our concerns as to the health of individuals, we tried to explain again, but were promptly told we were "racists". He was then told the hotel is dirty, unhygienic, overpriced - £50 a room should be the maximum, and a disgrace. The menu is boring and I suspect of the heated variety, even though termed "A La Carte". This is the Manager who tells all his staff not to smoke anywhere where the guests can see them. He then regularly smokes cigaretts on the front step of the hotel, and in the garden, in full view of the guests, and then reeks cigarette all over you when he serves breakfast, and dinner!! The rest of the staff, most of whom were in place before the takeover, are very good, they do their best, and it cannot be easy for them. This hotel when we visited some four years ago was an idyllic place, it no longer can be viewed as such. The traffic passing over the small bridge in front is hectic, due to long running roadworks into Bath so the Toll Bridge is in use from 6am to 10pm, and it is very busy! This hotel is one to miss!!

Beautiful location but the hotel decor is very tired. My colleagues and I were very dissappointed to find we were not staying in the main hotel but in the lodge at the back of the car park.
My bathroom was the size of a small cupboard, the sink had a hole it, the shower was mouldy and luke warm water dribbled out of the shower head.
The worst part of it all was the older gentleman (certainly not a gentleman) waiter. So rude and obnoxious to us all. Everything was just too much trouble for him. On the plus side, when we eventually got our food, it was lovely.
I would never recommend this place to anyone.
