“In desperate need of renovation!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2010

Booked most of the hotel for our wedding evening do. Personally our room was reasonable seeing as it was the best room. It was never worth its £130 price tag for the night though. It was comfortable, but in need of renovating. Unfortunately, most of our guests rooms were in poor condition. My new in-laws had planned to stay for 5 nights. This was reduced to 2 after a lack of hot water and needing a portable heater! We were informed the boiler couldn't supply all rooms when the hotel was full! Our other guests were disgusted by their rooms in the Lodge, which resembled beach huts!! When they complained about the size and condition and mentioned not paying the asking price they were threatened with being banned from the party by an intimidating male manager. Later on in the evening most issues were resolved by a fantastic female member of staff and the party atmosphere was regained. The party was a success, but the state of the accomadation was an embarassment, and almost spoiled one of the biggest nights of our lives. A member of staff did mention the Lodges were due to be condemned soon. They are certainly fit for that! You are just paying for the location here, not comfort or guaranteed heat or hot water.

My partner and I had a room in the main hotel. We paid £20 extra for the privilege of having a freezing cold room, with next to no hot water, no bath towels, a cold breakfast (even cold coffee!). Was so cold by the time we left it as nice to get in the car to warm up! The bathroom was tiny and covered in mould and the shower cubicle was so small if you dropped anything you couldn't bend over to pick it up. The older male member of staff is so rude it's unbelievable and has zero customer service skills, although the younger staff are very friendly and try very hard doing what must be a nightmare job. This hotel is massively overpriced. it's a shame as it could be nice as it's in a lovely location. There is supposed to be a refurb underway but they will need to spend a fortune on it (maybe that's why they're trying to save money on the heating bill?!). I heard the other guests complaining that the rooms in the 'lodge' are even worse... someone mentioned 'Butlins 20 years ago'

This hotel is undergoing refurbishment when it really needs a deep clean !!
The hotel staff are very welcoming with excellent customer skills but it is all wasted if the hotel cannot provide general cleanliness.
From the minute you step inside you can see everywhere is very grubby.
The bedroom we were in had mould spores all over window frames and shower.
It was extremely cold ,we could not sleep and had to put the bath towels on the bed to try to get some warmth.
This could be a fabulous hotel as it is in a stunning location with fantastic views, but as I said to the manager when we complained, its not the fact its 'tired' its the fact its FILTHY and all it needs to stop complaints is some hot soapy water and a good scrub !!!

We booked a romantic night in a cosy hotel but when we arrived we were put into the "Lodge" a hideous 70s prefab motel knocked up in the car park. The rooms were tiny and in a terrible state of repair. The bath room was even smaller and had no windows so was full of mould.
If I had known what I was buying I would have chosen a motel as for half the price I would have got at least the same room but it would have been clean.
The car parking was free but as they had built this lodge in the middle of it there was no room to park our car.
Friendly staff and a nice breakfast, if you can be sure you are in the Hotel and not the Lodge it may be better.

We choose this hotel due to the recommendation and fantastic write up on the visit Bath web page.
We paid £105 per night to be kept awake with a faulty kitchen extractor on the roof of our room, as there was a wedding the first night the mechanical groanings of a failing unit continued grinding away until 4.30am until the room next door gave up and complained. We too complained the next morning and were told the equiptment would be turned off at 10 -10.30 the following evening. Alas the general manager arrived with friends and wanted steak cooked to the kitchen would re-open and had no idea what time they would turn this racquet off. I spoke to the duty manager who appolgised and said we could change rooms (at 11.00pm in the evening) or have a refund for that evening if we went home .We sat awake that night waiting for morning and our grand refund was £20 .The general manager met us at breakfast and was wonderfully nice and promised large compensation for such poor service, this information did not make to reception or the bill. The tv did not work, room was of shoddy decor, very outdated. Which was a shame due to the stunning location.
I was left with the impression the happyness of the staff came last, based on the large queue waiting to complain when we left after 2 sleepless nights.
This could be a super hotel due to the stunning location only a 45 minute walk to Bath along the canal.

I booked a two night stay at this hotel as a surprise birthday treat for my wife as she has been wanting to visit Bath and the new Therma spa for some time, after I had made the booking i did check the reviews and to be quite honest I was a bit worried so I telephoned the hotel to express my concern, I had booked a room in the lodge part of the hotel and when i telephone it was explained to me that the lodge rooms are quite a bit smaller and that the ensuite shower/wc was quite a bit smaller than that of the main hotel, the receptionist was not only polite but was honest. I was given the opportunity to up-grade and given the fact that it was a special occassion decided to do so. On arriving despite taking a slight detour and going over the Toll bridge (paying my 60p , only to have to turn around pay yet another 60p) don't make the same mistake as i did.We were greeted by a warm friendly receptionist who explained everything to us, from times of restaurant opening and closing, to ways of getting into Bath , she was very helpful and a welcome smile after a tiring journey , we went up to our room and yes it was a bit dated but no way as dated as some of the hotels i have stayed in,(it wasn't a plastic, same every room Travel Lodge) but the room was clean and tidy with plenty of tea and coffee.
We had booked a table for dinner as neither of us wanted to go out in the rain and we are both glad that we did dine at the hotel, the food and service was as good as any 5* hotel the only thing different was the price, in fact the food was that good we dined in on both nights, the breakfasts were equally as good.
All in all the hotel is Great Value for money, Really friendly and helpful staff and what made it for us was that a member of management wished my wife happy birthday gave her a flower and was there on sunday morning when we checked out.
Having said all this I did ask if i could look at a lodge room and yes we are glad that we up-graded but there was nothing wrong with the lodge only that there was no views and they are considerably smaller
So if any one is reading this and has read the bad reviews then do the same as i did PHONE THE HOTEL

good points- pretty setting, friendly reception staff, free car parking, good breakfast.

bad points- where to start?! minging rooms, looks like it hasn't been decorated since 70's. Bad location if you're looking to be in Bath town, as this is in a place called Bath Easton, about 30mins outside of city. didn't eat dinner in restaurant so couldn't comment on that. awful hygene, dirty showers and peeling wallpaper, just gross. Lodge looked even worst!!
DON'T DO IT!!!!
