“Great family holiday venue”
Reviewed 13 August 2013

Just left the Creta Star Hotel after a lovely, relaxing fortnight. Rooms are pleasant, luxury in Greek terms I think. The airconditioning is not great, but our sea view family room had a huge terrace. Food is good and dining room service is well organised. If I had a complaint it is that there is a pplicy of long trousers publicised for men at dinner. This is not engorced by the greeters Or head waiter, but he may mention it later if he feels lime it. This is annoying if it happens when there are men in shorts all around you.Despite all inclusive we ate out several times - just for a change. But the menu does vary quite well for this type of buffet style dining facility. Don't expect Greek Taverna- this hotel caters for its Russian and French majority clientele. There were a few UK visitors, but mainly other nationalities, some with very limited social graces. If your child is in a queue go with them or they may well be pushed aside. The entertainment happens all day and there is a show each evening. We chose not to join in and did not find it intrusive or too noisy. The bar is fine- we had plenty of pleasant wine and beer, and our daughter loved the kids cocktails. Our room and the hotel generally was well maintained and clean. The sea is very dangerous here,so don't expect to be able to swim in it. We hired a car and drove out to safer beaches and enjoyed swimming there. It is worth heading to Rethymnon one evening to have dinner and an evening wander around the old town area. We had a great holiday in the main, and would recommend this hotel to other families.

Me and my sister stayed for a week in July 2013.
On arrival late at night the reception staff were very welcoming and helpful, our bags were taken to our room whilst we could help ourselves to a cold buffet which was put on for late arrivals.
Our room was a large room that was extremely clean and had a large balcony with seating, drying rack and a sea view. The room also had a large fridge which was great for storing water etc, the bathroom was also a comfortable size and the shower was gorgeous! Freebies such as shampoo were also restocked regularly as were towels on request.
All staff we encountered including hotel staff and Thomas Cook rep were very friendly and accommodating.
The animation team were also brilliant provided entertainment throughout the day and a fun kids club. Although there were not that many English visitors I found we were not outnumber by any nationality in particular there was just a wide range of visitors. I also found that all animation hotel staff and visitors were very accommodating to us and happy to speak in clear English, in fact it was one of the standard used language e.g all notices and menus.
We were staying all inclusive and i used barely any extra money, I spent 1.60 on a bus into the town on market day and hired a beach lounger for a whole day for 3.50, on this note the beach was a beautiful sandy beach. All activities such as pedalos, canoes, archery, water gym were free.
Drinks and Ice cream were available self serve throughout the day and you could definitely get your moneys worth! Food was also brilliant, a wide range was always on offer of local and other foods and I cant imagine anyone wouldn't be able to find something they liked. At breakfast and tea some foods were cooked fresh by a chef at stations and relatively orderly queues were formed although they were never large. There was also an Italian restaurant on attached hotel, the Creta Royal, but I felt no need to go here as the food met all my needs.
The Pool was salt water but clean, and many people seemed to cope fine, i have sensitive eyes and i only needed to wear a pair of sun glasses and that gave me enough protection to swim and splash.
Upon leaving the hotel we could store out bags in a luggage room till out bus picked us up at 18:00.
The Airport in Heraklion was run down and a little dingy and small. We also had to queue outside for a small time with Thomas cook, but we soaked up the last minuets of sun. Ultimately the airport got you on your plane which is all we needed.
All in All a fabulous, relaxing holiday where i could take my mind of many stresses, I Would highly suggest this hotel and would happily plan to return!

I arrived at the creta star merely 13 days ago to be welcomed to one of the best out of many hotels i had stayed at.The staff are welcoming and friendly and all the facillities are amazing and enjoyable for a variety of people. They have two main pools which consist of a spacious pool which varietises from 0.85 m to 2.45 m which is VERY deep and fun to jump in then you have the indoor pool which is a cool and refreshing pool adjacent to the massage room.I could go on about how amazing the food is with a refreshing new idea and new style everyday from mediteranean buffet to cretan themed. The animation team consisting of seven friendly members 4 girls and 3 boys who create a friendly and fun atmosphere introducing water games everyday. To be honest the shows are quite dull but well put together considering there different everynight. All together i would rate this hotel an 8.5/10 and wouldnt hesitate to recommend it to someone.Aidan Weston age 12 Milton Keynes.

We stayed at the Creta Star for 2 weeks from the 21st June. We had the most amazing time and our 6 year old was in his element. The weather was none stop sunshine, the staff helpful and genuinely friendly people.

We got a free upgrade to a sea view room! The view was simply stunning with the most amazing sunsets to be viewed over the sea. Whilst it wasn't the most plush room we have stayed in it was extremely clean.

The food although buffet style was of really good standard and if you 'hunt' around to see what was on offer you wouldn't be disappointed (which can happen if you heap to much stuff on your plate that doesn't go!) I would also recommend bookin the Italian at the sister hotel next door. I enjoyed the food but my partner wasn't fussed. However, the view on the beach front is great and its worth going there.

The pool is lovely although deep in the middle so people with kids that can't swim well beaware.
We still had to get up at around 8 to reserve loungers by the pool even though there was signs all over saying y ou couldn't do that, it was ignored by everyone....

The animation team was something else!!! These guys work so hard and are brilliant. The best animation team i have ever come across. My little boy was constantly entertained and wants to go back. They did treasure hunts on the beach and mini disco time was a family favourite.

The entertainment on the night was good fun and again the animation team do a great job.
They keep you entertained during the day too, with beach volley ball, water polo, darts, mini golf etc...

The drinks are best in the Balcon Bar (especially the cocktails-yum) look out for Haritos, such a lovely guy!

The beach is small but the sea whilst a bit rocky at first is really lovely when you get further in. It stays quite shallow for a while so again perfect for little ones.

There were not many English people there at all (and thats not a bad thing!) Lots of Russian, French anf German.

I would recommend going into Rethymnon via the local bus, lovely place with some great places to eat and drink. I can also recommend the boat ride into the caves. They let my little boy drive the boat (he was over the moon).

We also did a day trip to Santorini which is a long day but breathtaking! Absolutely stunning. The boat trip back was horrendous though so be aware!

Because the area is quite remote, you may want to take a walk past the bus stop and go left when you reach some crossroads. Follow down to beach and go right, its about a ten minute walk but a lovely taverna is there. They do awesome mojitos and the pizza is lovely too! The owner will give you some free raki too!

Overall this was a fantasic family holiday that we will never forget, a very special place that we hope to visit again in the not so distant future. Welldone Creta Star.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room if they have one spare you may be lucky like us and get a free upgrade

Stayed here with my boyfriend for 11nights on the 12th July 2013. Could not fault the place, the moment we arrived which was around 1130 at night we got giving our room and got told that they had a cold buffet left out for us to get something to eat and drink.

Room: balcony with table and chairs our view from 233 looked out onto the front of the building and the sea. Towels can get changed daily if you wish by placing them in the bath tub. Plenty of space to out clothing. If you want a safe it's at the desk in reception, we never bothered.

Pool: pool was salt water (great for a tan) plenty of sun beds we managed to get two even if we went down later on in the morning/afternoon. As its all inclusive you can help yourself to drink all day and food is always out. Entertainers done a great job, done loads with the kids all day and played pool games aerobics etc. The entertainment at night was funny, some things stupid but funny. They work very hard at their job!
Beach was lovely you did have to pay for the beach if you wanted a sun bed but we got a subbed at the pool and now and then went into the Sean when ever we pleased.

Food: They have food for everyone every night! I only eat chips and bread on holiday and I managed that every night, they had loads of pasta dishes salads, fish sometimes pork, garlic bread on Italian night and so much more. Loads for breakfast to choose from like cereal bacon eggs sausages fruit toast sometimes even chips etc. ice cream out from after breakfast onwards. If anything was empty it only took them a minuet and it was re filled again, cleanest place I've been to always on the go the staff wiping up any little mess.

Great place to go as a couple or if you have kids. If you go t take a bus buy the ticket at the market one ticket = one way so best to buy them all in one go saves trying to find somewhere to buy a ticket once your out. We hired a car and drove around Crete for the day doing some sightseeing ourself as we had a map and was easy enough to follow the road signs. We got to keep on our AL bands on even after we checked out.

Me and my boyfriend would return to this hotel again.

Stayed 11/07 to 23/07 on easyjet package which was keenly priced. Word of warning... if your idea of a holiday is endless Karaoke bars, The Blue Lion pub and umpteen repeats of Only Fools and Horses on 86 inch screens - don't book this place. However if you want relaxation, tranquility in beautiful settings in a terrific all inc hotel....then keep reading. You really do get very genuine Cretan hospitality here and were made very welcome. The hotel has a very cosmopolitan feel to it with many nationalities represented, (British definitely in a small minority) this wasn't a problem as everyone rubbed along together. We found everybody to be very polite and courteous. Buffet food can get tedious even if its good quality, but the hotel / chefs seem to go to great lengths to be imaginative and to cater for the many nationalities at the hotel Food quality was excellent with many varied theme nights e.g. Greek, Italian, Asian etc we feel it exceeded the general standard of a 4*. Children are also well catered for with ours especially enjoying the freshly cooked pizzas, pasta dishes and ice cream.
Rooms were of a reasonable size, its definitely worth paying a bit more for a sea view room as we had a fab view over the bay and lush hotel gardens. TV in room not great and only has 2 English News Channels but I don't go on hol to watch TV anyway.
Not much outside hotel, you can have a pleasant enough walk along the beach or the the side road which leads to some Tavernas and a few minimarts en route. There is a good bus service into Rethymon from outside hotel at cost of 3.20 Euro return, kids are free. (buy tickets from well stocked shop in hotel) we ventured there twice in our 12 day stay. I recommend the big red bus tour as it takes you all round the town then up into some of the mountain villages with fabulous views back down into Reth. Just outside the hotel there is also a travel agent that you can book trips to just about anywhere of interest in Crete at reasonable rates. We booked a trip to Chania for 18 Euro where we bought leather goods from Leather Lane. Blew my bonus on a nice leather jacket there!
Beach outside hotel -short path from garden and convenient Toilet and shower facility- have to pay for sunbeds, but cost not extortionate like Balearic Islands 7 Euros for 2 beds and a large brol is comparatively good value and the sea is near enough to dip your toes in the water when the rollers are crashing in - Paradise! Do be careful when the red flag is flying as sea here has a strong undertow. If you want free beds in the gardens get up early as all are reserved by 8am, We used both beach and garden area.
Animation team work very hard keeping guests entertained. We really liked the Musical style shows, but Caberet shows not to our taste.
Overall we had a fabulous holiday here and thanks to all staff at the hotel for making our stay so enjoyable. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for a sea view!
