I was here for a business trip, travelling alone. Maybe too elegant for me (when I arrived, a big wedding was going on), but beautiful anyway. Big garden, swimming pools, spa etc. Breakfast very very abundant! Not very comfortable if you want to visit the city center.

Room Tip: swimming pool view!

As a thermal resort, we found the Kaya as the most elegant, very well located in Balcova's historic site where the original thermal water once healed the ailing daughter of Greece's King Agamemnon, centuries ago. It is beautiful setting for a Resort with wast land and well maintained grounds and gardens.
Kaya has it all, very lavishly furnished rooms, excellent Buffet restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving variety of dishes to meat the taste of its loyal customers local and foreign. You will find

This is a reaonably good hotel on the outskirts of town with a good view over the city, the staff are friendly and the restaurant is very good. I did enjoy the thermal pool very much. The rooms are basic, clean and comfortable. One detractor was a night where a wedding celebraiton had a loud disco running outside until about 3 am.

This hotel is clearly a business hotel. I only saw groups that were participating in all sorts of conventions. No children or families. It also hosts weddings and such.

The rooms are clean and spacious. The bathroom is a bit smaller. My room had a great view.
The hotel has a spectacular lobby and elevators that look out onto that lobby. It has several swimming pools and wellness facilities.

The bar has tasty cocktails and provides lots of crisps and salty snacks when you order something.

It has a hairdresser and a newspaper shop. There is free WiFi throughout the hotel (but slow).

Things I didn’t like, but it might be nitpicking:
- The magnetic keycard often doesn’t work and you have to go all the way to the reception again to fix it. I was on the third floor.
- There is a small threshold between the room and bathroom and that can be dangerous in the middle of the night when it is dark. Toes don’t like those things.
- The staff aren’t the friendliest, especially not at the reception desk. It is a great hotel so you would expect them to do better here. The cleaning staff was amazing though. So was the staff at the breakfast buffet.
- You really have to specify to get a non-smoking room. If you forget that and the hotel is fully booked you’re stuck in a smoking room.
- There is a shuttle to the city center, which is great. However, punctuality is not their strong suit.

Summary: Overall I am very impressed with this hotel. The male staff at the reception desk should put in some more effort though. The other staff members are making you look like you’re lazy and uninterested.

Room Tip: Specify that you want a non-smoking room if you're not a smoker.

In the time of "troubles" in Izmir last summer I was staying in Kaya Hotel which is far away from Izmir downtown. This is a very nice hotel but definitely not for a business trip. There was a loud party in the garden till 23pm, breakfast from 7am only. Check in and out took pretty long as this is a huge "holiday hotel". Nice pool area if you have time to enjoy it. Good food.

This is a good hotel - nice / clean / modern rooms, a lovely spa area (the outdoor spa pool and sunbed area is really lovely),I didn't try the big outdoor pool because it was early October and too cold. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

Wifi was available free and everywhere, I had no big issues with the speed.

There is a free shuttle bus into Izmir and a couple of shopping areas.

The looks dated - 1970s on the outside, but don't let that put you off, on the inside it is very nice looking and modern.

It tried the evening buffet food, nothing special, and if you are on your own like I was, better to go for room service, there's no difference in price.

My only beef with the stay was that one morning, around 3am, my next door neighbour arrived back in his/her room, switched on the TV at ear bleeding level, leaving what sounded like a Turkish soap opera going on and on and on - clearly the person had had too much to drink and had fallen asleep. When I called reception it took nearly 45 minutes to get it sorted out. It took several calls. Initially I was told it would be sorted, to be told on return call that 'd tried to call the room and no answer - well, no [--] Sherlock Holmes, the person was fast asleep, so it took a while to persuade someone to knock on the door and get it sorted. By then I was wide awake and very annoyed. The next morning I complained at the reception and they offered me to change room - while at one level it was quite a nice offer - it missed the point that it wasn't me that was the anti-social guest and why would I want to move rooms with all the entailing hassle, when the hotel could simply make sure guests behaved themselves in an effective and timely manner!

Nevertheless, had this not happened, I'd rate this as an excellent / great value for money, not a budget option, but very decent.
