As Pagham residents we eat here quite often as you can rely on it to be good every time. Always interesting specials available at reasonable prices plus good choice of potatoes including dauphinoise without extra charge. Staff are polite and helpful and the wine is very drinkable and.unusually not ridiculously overpriced like a lot of places.{ take note The Beresford). We feel lucky that we have 4 good eateries all within easy walking distance of each other here in Pagham

Booked for a table of 11 Father's Day
We ordered lots of different foods on the menu
From roasts to cod , lasagne , liver and bacon . My son had the Yummy lion burger which is huge and homemade . The meats were very tender I had lamb and roast pork . gorgeous roast potatoes and the best gravy I have ever tasted . By far the best roast I have ever eaten out anywhere .
.Lots of food options on there main menu with lots on the specials boards with a great vegetarian option too . The staff were lovely too . makes such a difference when you have lovely waitresses and waiters .
Fantastic Father's Day meal thankyou . will be returning again very soon .

Booked a table for Father's day for 2pm. We were rung the day before to say that there was a big booking in before us which might not be finished until 2.30pm. As we had no time to book anywhere else we had to accept this.
Had a 14 month and 5 month old with us. We ended up having to feed the 14 month in the bar as our table wasn't even ready at 2.30pm. The staff refused to ask them to hurry up even though they had turned up late for their table.
When we finally were seated and ordered the food took ages to come. Most of the food was nice and cooked to order but the roast was dry and had clearly been cooked well before.
All in all this ruined our father's day meal. No goodwill gesture was even offered so wouldn't come back here again. There are far nicer pubs in Pagham.

We needed to change our restaurant booking from Friday to Thursday evening and managed to get the last table available. Person on the end of the telephone very helpful and friendly so that boded well.

The restaurant was full by about 7.30pm with one large group and the atmosphere in the beamed but bright area was buzzy and lively. No piped muzak so a good start.

Good choice of wines by the glass including "sweeter" choices such as Piesporter and Zinfandel Rose. The bar area looked also quite pleasant, did not see the beer pumps but as another reviewer mentioned Tanglefoot I suspect Hall & Woodhouse "house" so their range of beers.

Pleasant outside terrace to front of pub for summer drinking but as this is really Bognor suburbia no countryside views. The car park had a couple of spaces available when we arrived but plenty of roadside parking around.

The standard menu card had plenty of choice and quite a list of both starters and mains on the specials boards. We opted from the specials asparagus in parma ham plus Selsey crab gratin then Welsh lamb rump and Lobster Thermidor. All dishes were very fairly priced, the Lobster £13 for half, £22 for whole so comparing very favourably with other establishments. We enjoyed all the dishes, the mains had choice of potatoes and either vegetables or a big bowl of salad. My lamb was most tasty, not too "rare" with a good jus, my wife was "defeated" by the size of her main, especially a big bowl of mash. At the next table I noticed someone else similarly defeated by the size of their stroganoff. Fairly standard desserts, nothing out of the ordinary but all again very well priced. Somewhat unusually no lattes, flat whites etc. just filter coffee but the price was below what you generally pay.

Very friendly happy and genuinely interested staff who kept a watching eye on all tables so the whole experience was excellent and at good prices too.

Love The Lion. Excellent spacious patio out the front. We had a meal too - including burgers, liver & onions & pork. All food was delicious, piping hot and generous portions. Good value too - meal for 4 £50 (excluding drinks). Staff very attentive and accommodating.
