“Dinner with friends”
Reviewed 6 June 2013

Although we were not staying at this hotel, we joined our friends who were hotel guests for dinner. We had a pre-dinner drink in the comfortable lounge where the owner quickly re-arranged the sofas so that we could all sit together. This was followed by a very good meal in the attractive dining room, with home made bread rolls and delicious food. Service was good, although several of us thought that the food could have been served hotter. We ate from the set menu which provided a varied choice to suit all tastes. We retired to the lounge again for coffee - overall a very relaxing evening in lovely surroundings. The gardens and pool looked very inviting - I would definitely like to visit again. Our friends were extremely happy with their stay.

We recently celebrated our wedding at The Rose-In-Vale and it was magical. We didn't stay at the hotel over night but we had the ceremony there and some drinks after. It is beautiful and made our day perfect.

We visited the Rose in Vale courtesy of a groupn reduction,but I would highly recommend this hotel even at full price.Its a dog lovers haven but does not accept children which suited us . this hotel thinks of everything to make your stay comfortable right down to your bathrobes in the bedrooms.The food was superb and the waiting staff were attentive to your every need. all in all an exeotional hotel if you like solitude and country walks. non dog lovers will also love this hotel for peace and quie. I highly recommend it.

What should have been a really nice experience in what is a beautiful ‘hamlet’ location was let down by the one reason we went to the ‘AA Rosette’ hotel, the food. At a price of £210 for Dinner, bed and Breakfast (not including the supplements’, wine, coffee etc). This hotel is overpriced and I would question its 4 star status!

The Frustrating!
The starter we chose was scallops. Slightly over cooked and served with what appeared to be a bottled chilli sauce. Further frustrated by the main course. We ordered two fillets, one ‘blue’ and on ‘rare’, at a supplement from the fixed menu. Neither were cooked to order, the ‘rare’ steak so ‘over’ it was sent back. Thus I finished my meal whilst my wife waited for hers and then she ate hers whilst I waited. When her meal eventually did arrive the vegetable (an extra) were not replaced. This was pointed out and they arrived as she finished her meal. Not what you would expect from a rated restaurant!
The breakfast was fine although my wife’s egg on the egg benedict was hard.
Hardly a quality eating experience we hoped for and thus we won’t be going back.

The Good!
Gardens;
The hotel is set in a hamlet and in well maintained gardens. If the weather is good (which is wasn’t) it would be a lovely location to sit out with a drink. There is also a small pool.
Rooms;
Rooms were comfortable and a good size. We paid extra to have a room overlooking the gardens. Bathroom had shower over the bath, complementary soap and shower gel, was clean and a good size.
Staff;
Friendly and helpful, especially the waitress, who was a temp (Vanessa I think).
Location
Costal walks and beaches in easy reach.

The Bad!
Rooms have paper-thin walls, thus noisy.
Overpriced hotel.
The restaurant food!

Room Tip: Ask for a garden view

Wow this place is beautiful, set out of the way and stunning. The house and grounds are amasing. We only stayed 1 night but will be back as this hotel is such a find. This was a rare night away and very worth it, the room was clean, bright and comfy. The food was lovely and James and Sara were very accommodating and friendly. We will be recommending this to all. Thank you both and see you soon.

We had a very enjoyable couple of days in Rose In The Vale. We found our room very comfortable and excellent food. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. It was in a lovely part of Cornwall near the beautiful. We were sorry it was not longer and look forward to going again.

Room Tip: All rooms nicely appointed and situated in this hotel

We spent 4 lovely days at Rose-in-Vale and wish it could have been more.
We stayed in the Woodlands room which was light and bright with the most comfortable four poster bed we have ever slept in.
The staff are attentive and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Mr and Mrs Evans have a lovely hotel with beautiful countryside all around it.
We will definitely be back!!
