“very few faults, lovely place”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night in may for our anniversary after spending a night in London and we both wished we had booked 2 nights here instead. There was a wedding going on but at no time did we feel ignored by staff or were the guests loud etc. Check in was speedy(we arrived early but they prepared a room as soon as they could), helpful man on reception! Room was a privileged (211) , nice size for just us 2, plenty of hot water, lovely view from room, free robe and slippers to use, nespresso machine . Only negatives were no air conditioning so room did get rather hot but I was happy to open a window, also the Jacuzzi was not working, disappointing as hubby and I were looking forward to using it and at the time pool was filled with children!!. Other guests in rooms near us were very inconsiderate , slamming their doors in the early hours of morning and banging around . We had the brassiere pre set menu for dinner, there was plenty of choice, food was delicious, as was the breakfast in the morning. drinks were reasonably priced (so the hubby says). A big thank you to all staff, each member was polite, helpful and made you feel very welcome. we will definitely be staying here again soon and for longer this time.

We stayed four nights in May with an organised tour of the castles and gardens of Kent.

The location was good for the purpose and the setting in extensive grounds is pleasant.

We had a large room over reception but room sizes seem to vary as other members of our group said that their room was much smaller. We had a six foot wide firm and comfortable bed but before you ask for this room, check that there is no function on. We were unable to sleep before 12.30 a.m. on the Friday night because of the noise from a function.

The food is generally of mass catering quality so don't expect a culinary experience. However, the roast joint of the day at dinner was consistently good.

I recommend the Windmill pub which is a ten minute walk away in Hollingbourne. It serves an excellent local real ale and it's cheaper than the keg in the hotel.

Overall, this hotel does most things reasonably well but doesn't leave any lasting memory. I would stay again if the price were right and the location suited the purpose.

Dear Les
Thank you for your review. I am pleased you would return here and hope to welcome you back again soon. Our new Brasserie menu is available and offers a great alternative to the hot and cold buffet which is also on offer through most of the summer months. Popular items include the steak & Doombar ale pie, cod loin with parma ham, parmentier potatoes & pea puree and the salmon fillet with nicoise salad. We are using selected, aged Harefield sirloin and 100% Aberdeen Angus for our burger selection. Sincerely, Dominic

We booked the Park View Suite for our mothers surprise 80th birthday party. When we arrived early in the morning we found the staff on reception extremely helpful. The room was set out exactly as we had asked and looked beautiful. The event staff were extremely helpful from the initial planning right up to us leaving at the end of the party. Thank you from us to all the staff for making the day run smoothly. Nothing was to much trouble, staff were on hand all afternoon. Our mother has been left with wonderful memories to cherish forever. I will certainly be recommending you. Thank you again

We went for my friends hen party and we stayed 2 nights. The venue it was very beautiful but unfortunately we have had few issue.
The welcome receptionist, Rhianna, was very nice, professional, friendly & helpful I cannot say the same of the receptionist on duty the following morning, I cannot remember her name.
At 11:30 I have asked her what time the lunch was starting to be served and how it was working, she laughed at my face and, pointed to the restaurant and said to me to go there and check with the restaurant staff, so unprofessional and very bad customer service.
Breakfast service was from 7am till 11am:
We arrived the first morning at 10:00am to have breakfast and... no plates at the buffet, we asked for the staff to replenish.
After a while... no croissants & no fried eggs at the buffet, we asked the staff if it was possible to have more. I think that the staff should of been aware of this and no waiting for the customers to ask.
Lunch time, we decided to have lunch at the hotel as the weather wasn't nice.
The menu was looking good, an A La Carte menu, the waiter, Priot, & the manager or supervisor, with the same name, Priot were not very professional, no smiling & the waiting time for the food was too long. The manager came to take the dessert order and he didn't take notes....the first dessert came out from the kitchen wrong.
We asked for the bill and the waiter came with the card machine and.. he didn't know how to use it !
Room service:
We left the room at 10am, went for breakfast and then went to the swimming pool, came back in the room at 2pm and the room wasn't done yet so we put the sign out , do not disturb, as we wanted to take shower & get ready for lunch. Well the cleaner, knocked & opened the door !
Our sink in the toilet, room 214, was blocked, as soon as you turned on the tap, water was not going down, how come this has not been reported from a cleaner?
Also, some rooms had the shower slippers & the dressing gown and some didn't have them?
As a 4 star hotel I was expecting a lot more.

Dear mikyandheleno
We appreciate any feedback which will allow us to continually monitor and improve our service and standards and I am grateful for your comments.

I was pleased you found the hotel to be in a beautiful setting, but was concerned to read about the issues you encountered during your stay. I am sure this must have been an irritation and I would have been equally disappointed.

We pride ourselves on offering good, friendly service and excellent value for money but it seems we let ourselves down on this occasion. Please accept my sincere apologies. Dominic

This Mercure hotel is in a beautiful setting with peacocks roaming the extensive grounds. It's very convenient to the motorway and Leeds Castle so was an ideal location for reaching the Kent towns.

At first view the building is fairly stark but the warm welcome at reception was appreciated and check in was quick and efficient. Particular thanks to Danny for his customer service which was much appreciated.

The premiere rooms are pleasantly furnished with coffee makers, bathrobes and slippers as well as bottled water but the furniture is showing its age and really needs a refurbishment. The complimentary wi-fi was indeed a bonus and worked well.

The hotel has a large coach party customer base during my stay coming from the continent which provided an interesting dimension to the guests.

The leisure centre is fine with a good variety of equipment in the gym and a large pool.

The restaurant is pleasant and offers both a set buffet style dinner menu as well as a simple a la carte menu and the food from this choice was good. Breakfast was again a buffet and was plentiful and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

I did have some billing issues at check out but these have been resolved although it did take some time.

I would recommend this hotel if you are staying in the area.

Room Tip: Do try the premiere rooms worth the extra money

We booked a large family meal in the Brasserie restaurant as our parents were staying at the hotel; the food was lovely and the service was second to none. We went back again for breakfast the next day and again we were not disappointed.

Tip: if you have a Gourmet Society card you can get 'Buy one get one free' on 3 course meals! So superb value for money too :-)
