Mercure Maidstone Great Danes Hotel
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Hollingbourne
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Stayed here for a second time with the first being in 2012 although should be called the Great Dane and not Danes as one of the poor dogs has lost his head literally from what we were advised was a result of some well oiled guests.

Hotel is in a lovely setting with and in the warm weather the window locks in the room had been removed allowing for a nice breeze to be let in in addition to a fan in the room though we didn't need it.

The room itself was comfortable with a few minor niggles like stain on the curtain and not many TV channels working most likely due to a poor freeview signal however the in room free WIFI was excellent and allowed me to watch SKY GO on my laptop so that didn't matter.

Bathroom clean but poor water pressure in the shower however this seems to be pretty standard in all hotels I have stayed in.

Malteasers in the room was a nice touch though!!

Breakfast was fantastic with a wide range of cereals, cooked items, croisants and fruit and is served in the restaurant area which is a spacious and relaxing environment.

Negatives were few and minor like the TV, charges two differing prices at the bar for the same drink by two different staff and no answer from room service number meaning I had to contact reception who then had the same problem but this was all sorted and nothing to much to worry about.

All in all was very glad I booked here having considered Village Urban Resort until I read the reviews and although this was more expensive I feel it was worth it and will stay here again when in the area.

I was disappointed with this hotel. Upon arrival there are yow statues of Great Dane dogs but one has its head missing! Not really a good start. The head was on the hotel reception desk! It has a four star rating but the room we had was by no way worthy of four stars! The restaurant is nice and the food and service were good. We had a massage in the spa area which was also good. Unfortunately the price I paid did not really give me value for money I feel because the room was so dated. Had the room been been better and the outside of the hotel updated then it might be considered four stars. The wifi worked well.

Thank you for your review.
The statue of the Great Danes were sadly vandalized and the head stolen. Fortunately, this was later returned and awaits specialist repair. I am sorry that this spoiled your stay, we are equally disappointed. We have a number of room types and sizes and are always happy to offer alternatives whenever possible. I am pleased you enjoyed the treatments and food & service. Sincerely Dominic

what a marvellous hotel indeed, breakfast is really good, staff in restaurant very obliging, location great for sightseeing and south coast, rooms are really nice and some have good views...reception staff okay, not the friendliest but know their stuff, when asking for extra things for the room always brought up speedily...ate in restaurant several evening and food is good standard and staff attentive...nice gardens around hotel and nice walks...wi fi was fast everywhere...as a family we had two rooms for a whole week, and were not disappointed at all, would definately return.

Room Tip: ask fot a room with garden view

Very good and not very expensive hotel. Really good food, exceptional breakfast. Perfect location if you are visiting Leeds Castle, its only 5 minutes walk. After long day you can relax in the pool however it gets busy on weekends.

There is no air-conditioning in bedrooms also only rails and shelves for your clothes - obviously geared up for the business traveller and one nighters, Also our room was near the extractor fans and was very noisy and didn't stop until about midnight, Food was O.K. but not fantasti but the staff were excellent. I was disappointed because I had ordered a chocolate birthday cake for my husband, through our tour company before we left, but when the cake arrived it was a cheesecake. I queried this with dining room manager and she said that no-one had informe the chef until the day before so somewhere there is alack of communication!

Room Tip: Preferably one as far away as possible from the extractor fans.

Hotel is in need of some refurbishment. There was no lift in our part of the hotel. The carpets in the corridors were nearly threadbare in places. Poor service in the restaurant lead us to leave without being offered dessert or coffee.

Room Tip: Would like to have air conditioning and a choice of pillow.

Dear Franco
Thank you for your review. I am sorry we did not deliver our usual restaurant service. The 5 rooms in the manor house are reached via the original staircase. These rooms were used by the Beatles back in the 60's during filming nearby for the 'Magical Mystery Tour'. They are large spacious rooms, quiet and favorite with regulars, overlooking the grounds with morning sun. Hope to welcome you back and would recommend perhaps one of our Privilege rooms next time. Sincerely, Dominic
