Big city resort in the forest. Most animals have run away. Pines on the grounds?? Everything is Manhattan prices. Captive audience - poor food choices. Everything is expensive. $4 coke from minibar? Tours are lame. Rooms are big enough and bathrooms are good. Go to Costa Rica and stay in an ecolodge.

The resort is in a perfect location for communing with nature and also visiting Panama City. My wife and I enjoyed walking around the open spaces all around the resort. We even hiked a road and short trail to the top of the tram ride, then to the top of the observation tower in the early morning to enjoy the views and tranquility in a very nice breeze. Just a perfect morning. The activities with the naturalists are enlightening and give a good overview of the tropical rainforest. We like to savor the local food wherever we travel, so we did not eat in the restaurants at the resort. We took the local bus into Panama City several days ($.65 way) which dropped us off at the Albrook Mall, from where local buses take you all over the city for $.25. Next time we will explore the use of the tour buses that allow you to get on and off unlimited times all over the tourist places in order to explore more of the city. As we were staying the week of Christmas and many of the stores would be closed Christmas day, we stayed a couple of days at the resort and just relaxed around the pool. The water was very clean, surprisingly cool and refreshing. We also took a day to walk to Pipeline Road, a world famous birding area, a 40 minute walk. Once at pipeline, we walked to the visitor center and decided against the $40 canopy tower, as we had already had a wonderful free experience with the Gamboa Resort tower. We then continued along pipeline, hearing birds all around and seeing a few flitting about, but not being birders, had no idea what was going on all around us. We were very fortunate to meet Kent Livezey along the road, a retiree from the US fish and wildlife service and avid birder for over 40 years. He showed us, through his extraordinary binoculars, some of the small birds that were foraging around us, and identified for us all the bird calls. He even enticed a few birds close enough for viewing by using a microphone with an extensive array of calls. By walking a lot more slowly and quietly under Kent's direction, we ran into a group of Capuchin monkeys making their way through the forest, a Tamandua in the underbrush, and a beautiful Toucan in a nearby tree. We can't remember the countless birds that he identified for us through their calls, or the ones that we saw, but the few hours that we spent with Kent were truly remarkable and were easily the highlight of our trip. We will make it a point to use him as a guide for this area on our next visit to Gamboa. Our last day was met with a major setback, as I was relieved of my wallet somewhere in the old downtown area of Panama City, losing all my cash, credit cards and ID's. We did have enough spare change to take the bus back to Gamboa. When we got back to the resort, we went to guest services to see if they could do anything for us. Anna, who was scheduled to be off soon, took the time to make phone calls to help us cancel our credit cards, which was quite a feat, as we had no cards, so no phone numbers or card numbers as reference. This all took quite a while and Anna stayed way beyond her normal quitting time to help us. All in all, the staff at the resort were all very helpful and cheerful, even remembering my name after just a few days. We will definitely return to this resort.

We had a wonderful honeymoon suite at this hotel and loved it! Jetzel Martinez arranged all of our tours and dinners for us. She does an excellent job as the concierge! The only negative is that it is difficult to get waited on if you choose to order off the menu in the restaurants, instead of eating at the buffets. We enjoyed the tours from this hotel, loved the couples massage on a pontoon on the Chagras River, loved the pool area and grounds on at the hotel. We loved the quiet at this property and enjoyed relaxing here!

Room Tip: I believe all the rooms have the fabulous view of the Chagras River!

This resort is in a beautiful location. The views and the grounds are amazing. Most of the staff are very friendly and helpful - except for one very crabby pregnant one. Our room was very spacious and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed the free nature walk and our guide Natale. The night safari was great also. Take advantage of the free offerings and you will see plenty of wildlife. Well worth what we paid!

This resort is spectacular. There is so many things on offer that you can do. The pool was clean and large and there was a lot of space around it to sit or sunbathe. The butterfly garden is amazing, I wouldn't usually be interested in things like that but I have to say it was amazing. The staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and spacious. The view were spectacular from the balcony.

We traveled in November and the place was wonderful. The view from the balcony of the restaurant is breathtaking. The food at breakfast and dinner was very good and tasty. The waiters were polite some very serious but still polite. The beds in the junior suites are very comfortable and soft. Big and Spacious rooms. It truly was a wonderful place very well worth it.

We spent 2 nights at this lovely resort. The lobby is large and comfortable with views of the water and animals. Our room was large and comfortable with an appealing understated decor . The bath is large with lovely tile. The balcony and hammock were a nice feature. Clean and good service from the staff.
The food was only average..although the breakfast buffet was good.
