“Not the best place to enjoy your honeymoon”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2013

We got married and looked forward to staying in the Seychelles at the CoCo De Mer hotel. The had advised that because we were just married in order to be welcomed with cocktails a marriage certificate was required however on arrival it seems as though this was not necessary as all guest were welcomed with the cocktail so the feeling of special treatment was over rated.
You will quickly discover WIFI connection is determined on two things 1 being only if you sit in the reception area and 2 if the wind doesn't blow but this may be something they may take into consideration. If people are on honeymoon they would want to have to sit in the reception area in order to upload and edit their pictures.
The rooms are very clean and the towels and shampoo in the rooms are very generous. We had a beautiful view of the sea from out room and was pleasantly surprised with it. Buffet Breakfast is very basic. Stale bread is plentiful and the grilled sausage favour more like hotdogs after two days so I stopped attending breakfast. The Al La Carte restaurant is a beautiful area and service is second to none it beats the main restaurant area for choice and real creole food.
Yes the sea has seaweed in it but is still a beautiful sea to swim in. All in all a nice hotel but for older couples in their 40s+ and definitely not for children of any age.

An excellent family friendly resort. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating. This is a fantastic place for kids and our two kids, aged 5 and 7 years really enjoyed the pool area and the clean beach. Meals were superb and affordable. The after dinner Sega dancing was most enjoyable. A perfect island stay.

This is a nice hotel. Our room was particularly pleasant. It was in the style of a small villa, split level with a nice seating area separtate from the bedroom, a balcony, and a lovely corner bath in the bedroom. The air conditoning was good, there was a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities and the soft furnishings were very good quality. The bathroom was fine , although the shower lacked water pressure occasionally. We had a standard room which was on the side of the hill overlooking the sea. Great quiet location. I was going to upgrade to a sea view room before I arrived but glad I did not as these are not directly on the beach (there is a garden and a path and a step down before you reach the beach) and they are near a path and the pool so people are constantly walking past your back window.

We received a lovely personal welcome and efficent check in from one of the managers. We were offered a refreshing towel and a drink on arrival, given information about the hotel, a voucher for 2 free cocktails as it was our anniversary and shown to our room.
Everytime we arrived back at the hotel from a trip someone was waiting for us with hand towels, or fresh bath towels if we had gone to the beach and our room keys. Nice touch. We were also waved goodbye and thanked by a number of staff when we left.

Food was good although I am not a great fan of buffets. Breakfast was good although finished very early for people on holiday! There were occasions when the server on the egg station was quite slow . By the time my egg arrived the rest of my breakfast was cold. Go half board. It's hard to get a cheap meal elsewhere in the Seychelles and there are no easily accessible nearby restuarants as an alternative in the evenings. On travelling around we found our hotel reasonably priced for food and drink compared to other hotels and local restaurants.

The pool is nice and there is a nice little gym (although no water in there). Free Wifi and a computer to use and complimentary afternoon tea.

The staff are helpful and friendly. The hotel provide a free nature walk near the hotel which was really nice and interesting. The free shuttle bus to Anse Lazio was great too.

What the hotel lacks though is atmosphere. Sometimes there wasn't even background music in the bar or restaurant. Apart from the Creole night there was little entertainment in the evenings. The entertainment that there was finished by 930pm and there was little atmosphere in the bars to encourage people to stay around. We got a little bored after the first week.

The location of hotel at this time of year meant that the sea was aways rough at the hotel and it was quite windy so although there were small boats and snorkels provided it didn't feel safe to use them or even swin in the sea. The beach was ok but nothing compared to the other beautiful beaches on the island.

There is a bus stop directly outside the hotel that will take you to most places on the island. The trip is fun with the locals and cheap. Taxis are very expensive.

We spent just over 2 weeks on Praslin. We did most things in the first week and would have been better off moving somewhere else at this point. The beaches are beautiful, the trip to La Digue is a real must, Villa Mai is interesting but very over priced, as is food on the island (even a simple sandwich). We hired a car for 3 days - did all the sites in a day!

Overall, a nice hotel but a shame about the location and lack of atmosphere and entertainment.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are very good. Beach front rooms nosier and not worht the upgrade.

This is a Money Squeezer, a tourist trap, it is located very far, there are only 3 buses PER DAY, TAXI ANYWHERE COST 40-70$. The hotel has two restaurants, the pool one is very bad and IS CLOSED ON MOST EVENINGS, the other restaurant is the Bouffet, which costs 70$ entrance PER PERSON NOT INCLUDING ANY DRINKS (NOT EVEN WATER). This means every dinner for a couple is between 160$ to 220$ (taxi + restaurant).

The reception team is not that nice, giving all kinds of attitude faces.

The breakfast food is good, the rooms are beautiful and spacey, well designed, comfortable big bed.

The massage was too short (promised 45 min, post the talking game actually did 25 min of average quality)

SUPER OVER PRICED, NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE, JUST LIKE ALL OF SEYCHELLES. (Thailand or Zanzibar is a million times better)

Service: You need to reserve until 16:00 if you want to eat in the restaurant. The buffet restaurant will only allow you in with long pants. (The 5 star Kempinski in Mahé which is a proper hotel does not have this rule.) Overall the staff is trying to do a good job but they are not professionals. The food is not prepared by proper cooks. Worst thing to do is the romantic dinner. Prepare to pay 200 EUR for cold shrimps.

Value: Awfully expensive for this old hotel.

Cleanliness: Cigarette buds on the patio. The cockroach in the bathtub is ok, that can happen. The rat / very big mouse on the veranda is probably happy about the lack of cleanliness outside.

Location: The hotel is on the wrong side of the island. There is always wind and snorkelling or swimming in the sea is no fun. They offer a free 40 minutes drive to a proper beach, but not on the weekends. There are no other restaurants near.

Rooms: Old and not as in the official pictures.

Spa: Apparently nice, but booking is a mess. They let me wife come back to the reception five times until the confirmed the appointment 40 minutes before the begin. Oh, and they let her wait another 30 minutes because they were late...

Breakfast: All the cheap stuff from the supermarket put together as a buffet.

Room Tip: Avoid the whole hotel. Stay as far away from the lobby as they have sometimes very noisy cheap bands...

A small and nice hotel. We really liked it. The best thing we liked about this hotel was the fisherman's wharf where we spent a lot of time after dinner everyday. The hotel is maintained very well and the staff were very friendly. We look forward to visiting this place again.

Just came back recently from Praslin that was our second island in Seychelles after La Digue.

It is a nice and small hotel, our bedroom was facing the sea view and on the hill side. I think most of the bedroom are likely facing the sea view which we enjoyed it every afternoon, sat in the balcony with our tea. The bedroom windows need to be varnished.

Just outside the hotel, there is two bus stop and the fare is cheap only five rupees for a journey which we took to go to Cote D'or.
The coastline of Praslin is beautiful and the beaches too.

Friendly and polite staff. Enjoyed the creole's night with the sega dance and the musician were playing the creole music was really nice.

Thanks to everyone at CoCo de Mer.
