“Absolutely NOT a 4star!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014

We visited this hotel in 2013 for a weekend (with wellness procedures). I would like to say this hotel is not a wellness hotel. Their cosmetic and spa services are very poor. They don´t know how to make good procedures, they even don´t know what it means.
Only positive in this hotel is restaurant. Quite good if you know you are in a small town near borders. Very poor if you expect juice (at least concentrate) for breakfast. You will get just some disgusting mixture made from artficial color+water and sugar.
The hotel is old, furniture is old, service is old, manager is old. If you want to get older in a few days, visit this hotel :)

I've booked this hotel for an easter weekend, because it's very near to Czech Switzerland National Park, which is (in my opinion) a must-visit if you're in the area. Really bautiful nature.

The hotel is supposed to be 4 star. After our stay we (me and my wife) just agreed that the single word, which can describe this hotel is NEGLIGENCE. I'm not really a nitpicker, I've been in some 4 star hotels before and the overall facilities of this one add up. Problems were in little things here and there and there was just too much of them, which resulted in a bad impression. If you want details, carry on reading. Otherwise in short: I suggest to look for a better rated place in the area.

THE ROOM
The hotel has plenty of parking places and the receptionist was nice and gave us a good briefing. After using the old, slow elevator (I saw was refered in other reviews here), we decided to take stairs for the rest of our stay :) The room, which we later found out was the biggest on the floor, seemed nice, well designed with combination of red carpet and black seating furniture and darker brown colour of other furniture. The dark furniture only has that one problem, you can see dust very well on it. The bed had quite hard mattresses, but we slept very well. The bathroom was quite a let down, though. It was kind of ugly and underequipped compared to the rest of the room. The bathtub had no curtain, the lights were dim and the ventilation system was connected to the motion sensor, so it was going on and off until you left the room...
My first steps were to check out the contents of our minibar fridge, which I found plugged out of the socket. I plugged it in and found out why it was that way - very noisy. I set it to a lower setting and it was just fine then. The contents though were poor and I would not drink the wine stored in it, because it looked it had been there for a while (+in a vertical position and the fridge possibly beeing plugged in/out). I noticed some orange juice bottles were expired with something soggy on the bottom, which triggered my attention and I started to move around the room more watchfuly. In the cabinet just by the fridge i found 2 pairs of someones socks with a lot of dust. The floral design was "interesting" too (see photos) and the curtain which separates the main room and bedroom was hiding a not-finished socket and switch with wires out (other rooms on the floor just had 1 room as we found out from looking on the fire safety instructions). There were plenty of framed pictures on the walls, which was pretty, but on a second look we found out it was only 3 same motives in different iterations :) They should also vacuum under the bed. That was simply gross what I saw under there.
The LCD tv was not a big one, but in a good state, working, with a almost all czech channels and 5 german (including a free Hustler pornTV, which was mentioned as a main plus in most Foursquare tips :) ).

THE RESTAURANT
The hotel restaurant is just by the main lobby and looks nice and comfortable, with a nice view of the garden/park outside. The service was poor, though. The waiter answered our greeting, but our expectations, that we will be seated wasn't met and we just had to choose the place ourselves. There were 3 waiters going around, picking up dishes from other tables etc. (restaurant was half-full), they all answered to the greeting, but no one offered us anything. They all looked like hotel school students on a training. Finaly after 5 minutes one waitress came with a laminated paper with a list of food. We had a 2 course dinner included in our hotel package, so I guess we didn't get a full menu. The choice was very limited and we couldn't eg. pick a different side dish. The wine we chose from a wine list was nice, with the exact temperature and the server (different from the others) knew her stuff.
My wife had italian linguine with basil pesto and vegetables, only they forgot about the basil pesto, so it was quite dry :) The pasta should have been cooked a little bit more to be al-dente at least. Some pieces of it looked they were sticking out of the water, because they were not cooked at all and thuss crunchy. We were hungry, so she denied returning it. My beef ragu with mashed potatoes was fine, although I'm not calling it gastronomic experience either.
The interior of the restaurant had the same problem as the room on a closer look - after you started looking around (when waiting for service), you noticed things, which require just a little attention and effort to be fixed and everything would be fine (Except the big ventilation tubes just right below the nice wooden ceiling with chrystal chandeliers). The boxes with decorating flowers with it's contents scattered around require just a little effort to get right. I guess the first thing is, someone must want to...

THE WELLNESS
We had 50 minutes in wellness cellar in our package - it consisted of a whirlpool and a dry sauna. It was clean, although they might change the decoration curtains on the ceiling, because they were very dusty and contained dead insects. The whirlpool missed one of it's head pillows and the shower trays were rusty by the drain hole. Again - overall it seems nice, but needs some effort to maintain it on a good quality level.

It was my several visit of this facility but first time in summer. All the hotel is modern but in hot which is in last days, no aircondition all over the place was big trouble. The room taxes are pretty high but there is no alternative hotel around:(

I spent two nights at this hotel and while the basics are fine, the finishing touches are just not there and it really does not stack up as a four star hotel.

The rooms are small but clean with relatively small beds and a tiny TV. I believe there may have been an English channel but the satellite system was clearly not working as there was no picture for the two nights that I stayed there. Thus only local Czech TV was available. Irritatingly, the wifi did not work properly and kept dropping everywhere in the hotel except in the lobby.

Service in the hotel restaurant was extremely poor and the waitrons had quit an attitude!

The hotel is well situated and the surroundings very scenic. This is the only reason I would return! As a business hotel it is really not suitable and they really need to improve standards if they wish to attract foreign tourists.

I choosed for my wellness stay Parkhotel Moris in Novy Bor because I know both other 2 hotels Morris (Česká Lípa and Mariánské Lázně - all 3 on 4* level) and I like it. And I was looking forward to my stay here with my family. Nový Bor is small and nice town in North Bohemia, near to Česká Lípa. But car navigation didn't know exact adress of the hotel although it is situated in the heart of the town. I have to ask local people how to get there. The hotel has a small parking lot in front of the hotel and another parking lot in side. It was relativly comfortable parking.

The hall was cosy and decorated with glass sculptures (Nový Bor is the town of glass) but the reception desk was not so nice as we expected. Main part of hotel is situated in reconstructed panel house and it is probably the biggest limit. You can see it in corridors, stairs and other common spaces. To the room you will get by one old and not too fast elevator (often you will wait long for it). The receptionist was kind slightly above average.

The room was the biggest disappointment for me. As I wrote in the begining I know "sister's" hotels Morris in Česká Lípa and in Mariánské Lázně and they are able to provide much more better rooms. My room consists of two connected rooms - something like living-room and bed-room. Design is not so nice - simply the reconstructed panel house. The bathroom was ugly - with very old lamps (lights) - in the town of glass I should expect better design of lights. Toilet was leaking and when I asked the reception to repair the door to the bathroom it came receptionist to repair it. So I repaired it myself. In addition to this - it is not so nice if there are some residues of soap reservoir and other equipment on the walls.

The room was relatively clean. Furniture was not too new. The bed was average comfortable and overall I could sleep here average. Disadvantage of our room was that it was very near to the elevator and we could hear still this old elevator. The room was average equiped - tv, minibar, hairdryer. Nothing surprising. I could recommend to the owner simple thing - refurbish the hotel as soon as possible.

Our stay was wellness. And wellness services were wonderful. The staff was kind from the beginning. To change the time of massage, order extra procedures and so on was no problem. I must tell it is probably better than in Morris Česká Lípa.

Restaurant was very good. Breakfasts are rich and quality quite good. Dinner menu was also very good. Only one negative was difference between the staff. One new waitress was too kind but too slow. Other waitress - sure practised - was fast but no much kind.

The hotel director take care about the hotel. I met him on hotel reception repeatly. Our 3 day stay were during the czech bank holiday - and unfortunately thats why we couldn't visit the famous glass factory in Novy Bor for what we got voucher on hotel. Also we had voucher for swimming pool - it is in Česká Lípa (the same voucher you will get in Morris Česká Lípa). Overall Parkhotel Moriss Nový Bor provides 4* level and it is above average. But the price for my stay was only slightly higher than the same stay in Morris Mariánské Lázně and absolutely the same as stay in Česká Lípa. And it is not comparable. If you have choice I can recommend you - take the Česká Lípa - it is much more better.

Apparently the only hotel in a town of no great touristic interest ... it is the centre of the glass industry in that part of the country

PRO:
- easy to find just at the entrance of the small town, on the first roundabout
- parking easy but not plentiful
- restaurant huge but could not get into due to a convention ... had to eat at the bar ...
- food more than ok
- price reasonable
- staff mostly friendly and nice

CON:
- room was fairly basic, bed quite uncomfortable, narrow and too hard
- bathroom of the early sixties ....
- small TV, was surprised to find a hard porn channel on free viewing ... no problem to me but would not particularly like that small kids see it
- staff not always fluent in English had problem in getting a fork and knife ...
